Hey as long as this thread is getting pedantic might I point out that bombay the hard way thing is not an obscure bollywood comp, but a remix project of one specific set of composers done by dan the automator themoreyouknow.jpg

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 17 December 2010 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

and not especially obscure either

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:18 (fifteen years ago)

i would say a dan the automator remix comp counts as obscure.

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:20 (fifteen years ago)

yeah wtf are you guys talking about

return of the nakh (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:20 (fifteen years ago)

yeah a very well advertised, well-stocked comp by one of the most visible producers of the era is so "obscure" by the standards of a board of music nerds, get bent

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:22 (fifteen years ago)

what about get bent

WHAT IS THIS RARE TREAT, SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THE NUMERO GUYS ABOUT THIS UNTAPPED RECORD

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:24 (fifteen years ago)

dude you are something else

kanellos (gbx), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:26 (fifteen years ago)

u are living in a fantasyland if that album doesn't not DEFINE obscure

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:27 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't realize HI DERE released a remix record of bollywood tunes

dayo, Friday, 17 December 2010 05:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, dan the automator one of the most visible producers of the era. there he is, right up there with timabaland, the neptunes, dr. dre, polow da don and others as someone who has changed popular music inextricably and has IN TURN become an international star himself

dan the automator. yep.

return of the nakh (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:29 (fifteen years ago)

I also didn't know carl weingarten cared so passionately about display names

dayo, Friday, 17 December 2010 05:30 (fifteen years ago)

just the other night i was watching an nba game, and there was dan the automator, sitting there courtside with chris brown. i was pretty pissed that he was implicitly supporting spousal abuse by hanging around with chris brown, but what are you gonna do about famous people? they only wanna hang out with other famous people.

return of the nakh (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:30 (fifteen years ago)

In August of 2010, California band dredg announced via their website that Dan the Automator will be producing their fifth album, set for a release in March of 2011.

dayo, Friday, 17 December 2010 05:31 (fifteen years ago)

og the era meaning like 1998 through 2001 when he was producing fucking Gorillaz that sold 10 million copies, you dipshit

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:31 (fifteen years ago)

well, would YOU want to be rushed by fans wanting your autograph on your bollywood remix comps?

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:31 (fifteen years ago)

no one has ever heard of this album

assuming that this bollywood remix album is a household name is truly preposterous

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:32 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, because if there's one producer that was able to transcend both the hit cartoon band and damon albarn it was danger mouse dan the automator

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

dayo, Friday, 17 December 2010 05:34 (fifteen years ago)

slocki obv otm -- i guarantee you that i could walk onto my campus tomorrow in my world of young people and stop 200 people and not one of them would've heard of "bombay 2: electric vindaloo", dan the automator's bollywood remix collection

return of the nakh (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:34 (fifteen years ago)

i will stop arguing this on the ONE condition that whiney admits that he is totally insane

u aint messin w/ my dengue (gr8080), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:35 (fifteen years ago)

no one is saying its a household name, you dummies. i'm saying it really shouldn't be obscure by ILX standards. I didn't know you guys were such "What is the indie rock you say?!" babes in the woods about everything

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:35 (fifteen years ago)

whiney my offer is still on the table

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:36 (fifteen years ago)

j0rdan, i know the booger eating morons at whatever school you go to shouldn't know what it is, but i'd expect a board that has like 900 threads on Fushitsusha and Colin Nancarrow and to know this thing existed

franz kaptcha (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:37 (fifteen years ago)

assuming that this bollywood remix album is a household name is truly preposterous

The first Bombay The Hard Way remix album was namechecked *everywhere*. It was on a couple of year-end 1999 best of lists - hell, I remember Wired reviewing it.

Stockhausen's Ekranoplan Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Friday, 17 December 2010 05:41 (fifteen years ago)
