why is david o'leary so hated/so crap?

Just off the top of my head:

1)He really overused the 'they're just a bunch of kids' excuse to justify any shortcomings of his team circa 2000

2)He looked like a pig

I'm sure there was more to it than that, though

PT doesn't look much like his dad or his brother, does he? Still a vile, odious cunt, though.

OK, I see the similarity. The point about him being a vile, odious cunt still stands.

re: o'leary

its not so much his time at leeds (he spent the money that fucked them up but that was a club wide policy that *nearly* worked) but his time at villa. that team was odious, pointless, bad to watch, rough for any team to play against, full of pointless too expensive no hopers and villa fans fucking hated him. if it wasnt for him (and gregory as well tbf), they most probably would be in a similar position today without needing lerner to bankroll them.

Matt DC, Friday, 17 December 2010 10:06 (fifteen years ago)

it is too early to start a thread about villas-boas, right? when nakh asked earlier this season who should take over from wenger i couldn't really think of a satisfactory answer but this guy looks like the real fucking deal.

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Friday, 17 December 2010 10:31 (fifteen years ago)

no, start a thread imo

i linked to the this a while back which is a useful primer

still think yr wrong to want rid of wenger

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew denies he lost focus while in charge of West Ham United.

There are claims Pardew would get around London in a Ferrari with his initials stitched into the interior.

"I never had a Ferrari at West Ham," he said, blushing slightly yesterday.

James Mitchell, Friday, 17 December 2010 11:13 (fifteen years ago)

Least surprising award winner ever

Matt DC, Friday, 17 December 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

considering eto'o was an integral part of a treble winning team, f that decision imo

http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2010/11/02/don-balons-list-of-the-100-best-young-players-in-the-world#more-14065

This is an odd list, Macheda above Thomas Muller? Then again, Djibril Cisse topped their 2001 list.

Number None, Friday, 17 December 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

Cisse could have easily have become the best in the world if a) he wasn't such a drunk and b) he didn't break both his legs

Oops, just kind of skimmed it. Anway, Macheda making the list just seems odd.

o'leary built a team of overrepped arrogant self-rating childish cunts in his own image at leeds then released an autobiography slagging elements of the club (already going down the tubes) while still manager. Nothin ever his fault, they're all just his babbies.

Hate him, the cunt. If not for eddie gray he'd never have been anythin but a serviceable pub landlord

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

ummm he had a decent fucking playing career still... oh yeah, spurs fan.

irish xmas caek, get that marzipan inta ya (a hoy hoy), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

decent centre half, we're not really on dat ting tho

'moi babies'/'not about the money or pennies' = hate

their run was exhilirating while it lasted, mind

Ismael Klata, Friday, 17 December 2010 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

they were a great team, in the short term.

all i gotta do is akh nachivly (darraghmac), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

O'Leary always seemed kinda like those flipping annoyingly chipper managers at work who refuse to really admit that anything is going wrong, because that would mean admitting they'd failed to manage the situation?

Every interview was like "I thought we played very well. We conceded five or six soft goals, but-"

^^^ Hodgson school of PR

Rage Against the Man-Cream (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 December 2010 18:26 (fifteen years ago)

oleary always seemed like the chip on the shoulder managers that never had anything go wrong that was their fault

# Might watch 'The NeverEnding Story' to cheer me up. I love that fluffy, flying dragon character. He looks a bit like Ken Bates. 23 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone

# I should be up to my neck in Blackburn muff by this time on a Friday. Instead I'm eating a Cadbury's selection box alone. 25 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone
