I still found this season more enjoyable than the third one, and it did start to get a little more exciting, at least, in the second half. I was definitely surprised how upbeat the end generally was, even with Dexter losing Lumen. The show's in no danger of cancellation, from what I understand, the overall ratings this season have been the show's highest.

I guess be careful what you wish for; I was hoping for a return to the darker Dexter of the first couple of seasons, and this season was undoubtedly grim - even to the point where I was getting really tired of all the rape and torture down the stretch - but it really didn't do it for me, particularly because they've just gone in the direction that Dexter is completely justified to kill these monsters who are way worse than him.

OK, finally watching Season 5 (and avoiding reading anything above this for now). The scene where Dexter has posed a man in plastic wrap next to a guy who was shot and Masuka gives his interpretation of events as it flips to Dexter's voiceover is some of the funniest shit in the series, even if this season is lacking a little

I liked that that too, but the idea that the department would take Masuka's off the cuff analysis as a given and not investigate was a little too much suspension of disbelief, even for Dexter.

I couldn't get through season 2. Michael C Hall is great, but the stories were kind of stupid and I didn't care for any of the supporting characters.

I just finished watching this. Although it still had some of my favourite things about Dexter (like the campy Masuka stuff, Deb, grotesque baddies) they are getting so sloppy. Dexter used to have his code and it p much made sure he wouldn't get caught and now he's whacking ppl left and right, like the gas station guy, leaving evidence everywhere, taking Lumen to clean up that attic so she can drop hair everywhere; no-one in the police questions or looks into anything - all of that was at least attempted to be taken care of or explained in the earlier seasons. Sticking to the code was the one thing that provided any kind of suspense over whether he'd be caught, if he can just casually kill someone and hurry away whenever he feels like it then there's zero suspense.

And yeah that car crash was the biggest shark-jump moment ever. AND yeah he's still terrible at the basic human stuff he was meant to have learned at the start of s1 like even HUGGING HIS KIDS when telling them their mum had died. I hate that they can't get it straight as to when he's meant to be good at this stuff. And is the Kyle Butler stuff gonna come back? Quinn was pretty close with that photo & the kid.

Sooo, I downloaded the episodes from this season.

A few loose ends, but I think it's fairly promising. Mos Def's character is pretty good, the casting for the serial killers is good but there hasn't been a ton of development yet, and wtf @ Masuka's intern.

haven't seen last night's yet but i thought the first few sucked and then the last 2 weeks things started to pick up and head in a more interesting direction.

I made the mistake of going on the AV threads for the last few episodes and HO BOY it looks like there is one massive SMDH RMDE sharkjump (possibly) in store. I don't want to spoiler it here though.
The writing has really gone to shit in this show though, and they've become just gobsmackingly lazy with when Dex is supposed to be intuitive to other people's behaviour or completely aspie. Mos Def best thing about this season so far (and CHanks makes me chuckle whenever he's on screen).

Pretty much my take on it, too. There's not much depth going on to the characters and the departures that were entertaining to me because they seemed out of place in previous seasons and actually funny are just being thrown in. Quinn going wild and Angel kind of tagging along?

haven't seen this or six feet under - they both look crap - but the guy is good in gamer

just a few episodes into season 2. that CANNOT be British girl's real accent (even if she is British). Fucking irritating me.

also turning up the saturation way high is quite enjoyable

Okay, still playing catch-up on this show. Haven't read this thread, wanting to avoid spoilers, but just finished Season 4 last night. Holy shit. Devastating.

One of my favourite shows ever. (Then again I have a ton of faves, so that's not saying much. lol)

I was surprised how much I liked Lithgow as a creepy killer, but could've used less naked scenes.

Right now I think I'd rank the first four seasons as 1 > 4 > 2 > 3

Warning: it gets mildly shit then UNBELIEVABLY FUCKING TERRIBLE in the next two seasons. 1-4 are classic imo. I thought I'd have been all over this thread with my complete bewilderment at the direction this show took and the goodwill they spunked away, but I guess I vented elsewhere.

I skipped last season, got back in when Deb finds out what's going on. So far so good, but I'm kinda burned out on psychotic Russian gangsters

I'm an episode behind, but by the end of the season we're going to find out that Hannah really hasn't killed anyone since her time with Wayne and she's going to bail out Dexter by killing again, right?

haha I just marathoned season 6 and am catching up on this season too. season 6 was absolutely terrible but this one has been surprisingly good so far. Love the killers this season - I always liked Yvonne Strahovski (who plays Hannah) when she was on Chuck, and the guy who plays Isaac is great.

Decided to catch up because someone told me Deb found out about Dexter, but looooool I hadn't realised they went for the whole incest angle (about two seasons too late imo but way to go, writers, for trolling all the Dex/Deb shippers). poor deb. still so very fucked up.

though it did accomplish something I never thought possible - I now love deb and hate dexter.

Anyone watching the last season? Was tempted to watch because of Charlotte Rampling, but really I can't be bothered.

I'm still on board, gotta see the conclusion, but this season hasn't grabbed me yet. The Rampling character is interesting, she knew Dexter's father and counseled him about "what to do with the boy," so that aspect is good. This season's long arc killer hasn't developed into much yet.

just finished S7. Couldn't get worse than S6 and I liked the angle they took (not the gangsters or fire guy because what was that) although the last few eps were back to usual 'is this finished yet'. I like how they've abandoned the idea of anyone doing any actual police work ever.

Is anybody still watching this? I just read a review that called it the worst final season of TV ever.

Not me. Gave up early last season when I realized literally the ONLY thing I enjoyed about it was ogling Dexter's crazy killer gardener girlfriend. The season before that with the "doomsday" plot was also basically some of the worst TV I've ever intentionally watched.

halfway through doomsday was where i checked out, it was bad even before that but holy shit

I think much of the love that Michael Hall gained from 6 Feet Under has evaporated after 8 seasons of this garbage. How it has lasted this long I do not know.

wow people were not kidding about how bad that finale was. Holy shit, was it bad.

It didn’t help that I just watched a couple of episodes from season 1 on TV the other day, and it was already depressing to see how much the tone of the entire show had changed. Earlier seasons were a lot funnier, a lot darker and more cynical. Dexter felt like a proper anti-hero, as terrifying as the psychopaths he killed. What the actual fuck.

Anyway, anyone seriously considering taking on this show, stop at season 4. Really.
