Well, night running at this time of year being defined as running from like 6pm to 8pm.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 12 December 2010 05:54 (fifteen years ago)

I enjoy running any time but living in a city has destroyed my appetite for running so far, too much to react to, no headspace

ogmor, Sunday, 12 December 2010 13:29 (fifteen years ago)

that's why running at dawn/twilight/dark is the best -- it's not so overstimulating. i have the same problem.

I like lots of stimulation. It's like parkour.

Jeff, Sunday, 12 December 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

i guess i was basically saying that i didn't like running on unlit deserted canal paths because they are not sufficiently stimulating.

I like the night time / outer space running feeling. Its only drawback is something surprising you - another runner behind you, a dog, something. I always feel faintly fearful even with a good headlamp, reflective stuff...

This weekend was warm in Brooklyn, so I took advantage and ran 22 miles over 2 days. 10 on Saturday, 12 today. Felt good. But I'm also in one of those modes where my belly is slightly chubbier the *more* I run, not less This stuff comes and goes, just strange to observe...

agree, it's great fun though!

ran my old 6 mile pros pk route after being away and man i am so much stronger than i was a year ago *pats self on back*

ice cr?m, Saturday, 18 December 2010 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

have run 20+ miles 5 of the last 6 weekends

fucking exhausted btw

I hate the headlamp people, because when they're coming from the opposite direction, the lamps blind you. So sometimes I body check them into the lake.

ilxor u r a god, f hazel tough but fair

ice cr?m, Sunday, 19 December 2010 07:56 (fifteen years ago)

last weekend i was on the trail at 5am with a headlamp, going down a hill, and this guy was coming up the hill the other direction, and yknow a headlamp kinda points down, right? so it was right in his eyes, and that fucker stopped me on the trail and complained the light was in his eyes! i was thinking, motherfucker it's not my fault you were coming up a hill at the same time i was going down, what do you want me to do, turn off my headlamp and run in pitch darkness?? ;_;

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

you both shouldve been asleep, barring that body check him into a lake maybe

ice cr?m, Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

what a jerk! was he wearing a headlamp too? i usually look over to the side a bit if i see someone coming, but damn, y'all shoulda been bonding at the fact that you were both crazy enough to be out at 5am instead of him being a tool.

tehresa, Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

I run with my eyes closed.

Jeff, Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

i wear my sunglasses (when i run) at night.

tehresa, Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

what do you want me to do, turn off my headlamp and run in pitch darkness??

hahaha, my strategy, since I run on Town Lake Trail so often, is to just close my eyes and keep running until I'm past the oncoming lamps.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

this usually works ^^

2010 running goals--

2,500 miles (will hit this w/ ~50 per week)

5+ ultramarathons

shooting for a 50 miler, maybe two, plus revenge at the 60k overnight trail race series that slaughtered me in '10

I wish I could make ambitious goals.

Jeff, Thursday, 30 December 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

man i just saw this guy while i was out running who had the most cheerful efficient form - he was quite slight, his torso head and shoulders were perfectly upright and still, arms swinging naturally, toe striking and just effortlessly gliding - he was running v fast and looked like he could have done so forever - he looked like he was running on some other planet - it reminded me of an Italian greyhound how they prance around - impressive to witness for sure

i was inspired to play w/my form and i think trying to be more upright will be my next adjustment - i could def notice increased lung capacity and theres just something psychological/yogic abt having good posture that is v helpful

tbh i have already convinced myself that i will fail

just1n3, Monday, 3 January 2011 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

lol winning attitude - just take it super easy at first - walk some if you have to nbd

ice cr?m, Monday, 3 January 2011 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

good luck! Enjoy it if you can.

Jeff, Monday, 3 January 2011 04:07 (fifteen years ago)

you can do it, j! seriously, i know it's super cliche, but if i could do this, anyone can.

i need to get new shoes!

tehresa, Monday, 3 January 2011 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i'm gonna follow that c25k plan, bc if i just went out right now and started running i would probably die.

there was a brief period of about 5mins in 1999 when i really enjoyed running, but i was a lot lighter then and i think running with a bunch of extra weight is pretty much gonna be total misery. BUT if i can get pass that and lose some weight maybe i'll actually ~enjoy~ this.

just1n3, Monday, 3 January 2011 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

i look like such a gammy zebra when i run, thank god it's winter and i'll be running at night.

running when overweight is dangerous as far as injury so just be careful and listen to yr body until you get in a groove - btw i lost 25 lbs w/running as a big part - it works
