Big man for a big job: Blackburn's Sam Allardyce has been tipped as the next England manager by one of his former players, Kevin Davies

‘If you speak to the players they would say they enjoyed playing under him,’ said Davies. ‘His knowledge of football is very good but he’s also very good at getting the best out of players, whether that is from a rollicking or an arm around the shoulder.

‘It’s one of his strengths. I remember going on a pre-season tour and he invited me up to his hotel suite and we had a chat and realised my confidence was low.

'He worked on that, as I’d taken a few knocks at Southampton. I realised I was basically on trial here, but he made me feel great.

‘He knows how to get you firing. I was out of shape when I got here but that soon changed and here I am now.’

chortlin acoleuthic (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 December 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

darragh, let's have a bet, i would put my fucking annual salary (meagre sum) but basically anything pool finishing outside top 7. that team is no way finishing in top 7, too inconsistent. reckon 10th is best roy will do.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 12 December 2010 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 12 December 2010 02:57 (fifteen years ago)

they're two points behind sunderland in 6th

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

hmmm.

chortlin acoleuthic (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

there's gonna be five points between 6th and 18th ffs, it's pure coin toss.

or, as i originally typed and took ten seconds to work out what i had done wrong, toin coss.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

haha i can see 8th, at best. but in my mind i reckon liverpool come 10th/11th.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:25 (fifteen years ago)

i dunno, genuinely. i think that meirelles has settled in really well with lucas in midfield, and with gerrard back torres might start firing again, and yer not that badly placed as it is.

wont miss carragher, he's a bit of a liability these days, ye've a shit left back but so does everyone cept utd and chelsea, ok midfield width's a struggle, but tbh i dont know if uncle woy has done too much wrong bar accept the lowered expectations.

koncheskey though, fuck. would take ekotto first.

chortlin acoleuthic (darraghmac), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)

this would be more of a thing if u weren't competing against bolton (probable firesale in january), sunderland & newcastle

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

schlomo replay (acoleuthic), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

there was that story going round back in the day that he proposition girls in clubs by asking if they'd like to suck an england player's dick

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

(k rich that is)

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

and the anecdote suggested he was referring to his own dick rather than wayne rooney's or w/e

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

with the women's world cup approaching, I am imagining the gender reversal of that situation and it is oddly compelling

gods, I still have an essay to finish and I've been out bloody partying

schlomo replay (acoleuthic), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:41 (fifteen years ago)

KILLED THE THREAD YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

schlomo replay (acoleuthic), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:45 (fifteen years ago)

hey i've been out partying too, perfect time for us all to do a collaborative essay.

PERHAPS better suited for another thread, but i've read that peter hook hangs around bars talking to VERY young women about his time in joy division. although i'd be more surprised if he didn't do that.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i mean unless 'very young' is a euphemism for foetuses, i dunno what you'd expect outta that cunt

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:52 (fifteen years ago)

ya the figure i've heard is 16, which is even legal. i expect better self-trolling from that guy tbh.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

their response must run the gamut from 'who?' thru 'who?' to 'fuck off grandad'

Radio 5 Live's 606 host Robbie Savage was recognised with an award today from the Plain English Campaign.

The Derby County midfielder who presents the nation's biggest football phone-in show every Saturday night at 6.06pm, minutes after playing, was honoured as part of the Best National Radio Programme for 606.

Chrissie Maher, the founder of the Plain English Campaign, said of Robbie Savage: "I know that some of our sports commentators are probably best out in the game rather than in the studio, but Robbie has won the hearts of people on both counts. He understands what he's talking about and he doesn't make a big deal about it. He goes on air just like when he is out on the field – straight to the point and no messing."

isn't 'no messing' redundant if he's being 'straight to the point'? don't tell me the campaign for real english is actually an affectation of its own

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 13:34 (fifteen years ago)

i really want to write a prank letter to the plain english campaign, complaining about their use of the word "campaign"
