not exactly. that's what's always written, but it's almost a moneyball+ way of managing: look for underrated talents (especially in scouting) AND spend money when you have to.

if liverpool fans are going to take anything away from this, it's that henry is willing to spend.

i can't think of a reject/ bargain that has come good for the sox since signing Ortiz in 2003. they have done really well at developing homegrown talent, but have always spent a lot of money, especially on pitchers.
