Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 15:01 (fifteen years ago)

the sequence where dude ran away from military executing patients in the hall into the arms of the undead underlined my distaste for this "WHO IS TRULY THE MONSTER DO U C" bullshit

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

My first thought was that the doctor saw the attempted rape over one of the security cameras.

i dont think i need to even see the remaining eps, i can just figure them out from these dumbass plot points you guys are talking about

I'm just waiting for the xmas special, the Walking Dead in a Winter Wonderland.

s1ocki or just keep reading this thread, you'll sure get one over on yourself then.

At least Carl the kid finally got to taste wine and say "ew gross!"

Haha, that was such an awful scene. The acting is uniformly terrible in this, but as long as they keep up the gore and some of the great shots (some of the framing is incredible) I'll probably keep watching.

I still can't believe they blew their final episode budget on a lame underground compound and not on, you know, zombie hordes.

gr8080 of missing ILX (gr8080), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

if they go all "what zombie adventure will the crew run into today" with a thruline of longer plot threads, a'la xfiles, this show could take off.
the real important equation is "more zombies in episode = more enjoyment I get from said episode"

idk i think the survivalism aspect is more interesting than the zombies

here's how every zombie encounter will go down: there's a horde of zombies, a bunch of them will get shot/chopped in the head with an axe, someone maybe gets overwhelmed and eaten and it's real sad ;_;, repeat

Princess TamTam, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

o come on tamtam, u know the comic better than that

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

I thought they were out of fuel when they got to the CDC, which was why they couldn't get back in the car and go to Fort Benning when it looked like the CDC was empty. But how is this problem solved at the end of the episode? It's clear Jenner didn't have surplus gasoline. Also, once they were in Atlanta and the CDC looked shut, why wouldn't they go back to the nursing home and take shelter there?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

Probably the same reason why they had to stop the RV when the hose burst, but yet it was suddenly not an issue once they dumped the guy that was bit against the tree and left him to die.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

scientist guy had a long fucking time to figure out how to fix the auto-destruct in that fucking joint too. maybe keeping some of the lights off in that cavernous place, not playing classical music while you're running experiments and not taking hot showers every night woulda been a good call to conserve energy? Pretty sure that google voice of god thing was a pretty big power suck to leave on all the time too.

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:19 (fifteen years ago)

They did a facile "oh, there's a service station just down the road, I'll go get a hose while you dump the dude against the tree" bit, but the lack of fuel is a total whoops -- unless S2 picks up 20 minutes later with everybody walking down the road with gas cans.

pixel farmer, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

renewable energy my friends. they used zombies as fuel...

Indian Food 2 Electric Vindaloo (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

Has there ever been a zombie story set hundreds of years after the beginning of the plague, with the living and the dead having co-existed for generations? If not, my idea.

A brownish area with points (chap), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

what would be awesome is if over time in 'the walking dead', the zombies and the humans are forced into some kind of, shall we say, uneasy alliance. maybe eventually there would be zombie/human love stories in the mix? maybe this alliance would be on the run from more "evil" zombies, and the humans and the good zombies have to find a new home. there should also be one character who has visions of the future depicted in bad art.

omar little, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

Odds of ever seeing those nursing home gangsters we've grown to love ever again? None.

They didn't go to the fort because it was 150 miles away and getting dark. Or something. "CDC" lab was living large, given the limited resources. That lame throwaway line about fossil fuels was no excuse for lack of solar power.

How long would power remain on with no one manning the stations, btw? What happens to nuclear?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah and shane would take a zombie doggystyle in a trash bin.

Yeah, but Shane and the other guy that were going to go get it never left, because they specifically showed Shane saying goodbye to Jim.

Princess TamTam, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

the zombies are angels, actually - think about how much sense that makes

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

shane needs to be put on trial i think, maybe defended by a dime store attorney they find hiding in some underbrush. a trial sounds ridiculous, sure, but they just want to retain order, bring civilization back to a world made uncivilized by an apocalyptic event. maybe they're being naive, or maybe it's just a way to forget that everyone they know is dead.

omar little, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)

psyched to see who the "final five" zombies are

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, but Shane and the other guy that were going to go get it never left, because they specifically showed Shane saying goodbye to Jim.

I think maybe they waited for them to get back before hauling Jim off to the tree? I mean, I guess they could have showed the waiting in real time but . . .

Pro tip: Sometimes in movies and TV things happen offscreen or time elapses.

just to warn anyone who wants to defend these bad choices with "yeah, but what you DIDN'T see was" arguments, the point is that this show is pretty fuckin' thin in terms of logic

like that the french held out the longest

zombies were just hungry for cigs and baguettes

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just saying it never even occurred to me that there was supposed to be no time elapsed from "Jim wants to stay behind" to "Whelp, here's your tree!" Not saying the show is perfect in terms of pacing/scripting/whatever, but we're getting into some THRILL TO THE RETURNING-WITH-THE-RADIATOR-HOSE SCENE!! territory here.

end of Shaun of the Dead kind of used this as its punchline.

If everything goes according to plan, with nobody around they shut themselves down. If something goes radically wrong, they melt down.
