Jenny, believe me, it's not that hard. just delete it, set yourself free. think i'm keeping mine over the holidays for whatever event invites might come around then i'm done with this crap.

sonderangerbot, Monday, 6 December 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)

My biggest concern is the loss of updates from different orgs/groups I like that don't have websites. And I guess I'm still somewhat curious about my high school classmates that are still trickling in (like the guy who just showed up in my "ppl you may know" list with a giant-Wesley Willis-esque headbutt scar on his forehead and a message on his wall from a woman who will never marry him because she refuses to change for him as requested). So conflicted, you guys.

midiverb II program 49 (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 08:25 (fifteen years ago)

Has anyone noticed the subtle little change where, if you look at someone's profile direct, it now displays a "preview" of each comment they made on people's posts? I cant decide if this is horrible or complete lulz.

manic pixie dream girl phenomenon (Trayce), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 08:31 (fifteen years ago)

hey Facebook users

anyone have links to pages “for” something (publisher, record label, organisation, media entity) that you’ve actually found valuable and useful, and well done? words about what you find good about it also welcome.

...this went away again after about 48 hours. How curious.

manic pixie dream girl phenomenon (Trayce), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:12 (fifteen years ago)

K1t - I do like the TMBG page on facebook, they announce sales of their merch, and post clips to songs and live bits and whatnot.

Ditto a few other bands: I do find announcements of new releases useful.

manic pixie dream girl phenomenon (Trayce), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:13 (fifteen years ago)

the Dangerous Minds site hosts video clips of music, movies, etc, and it's updated frequently. The current top of the list is a youtube clip of "32 sublime minutes of neil young performing in 1971."

nickn, Thursday, 9 December 2010 07:30 (fifteen years ago)

The site is external to fb, but they post all their new stuff there as they add it.

There's a whole thing you have to do with filters. Wait there.

unintentional boob pic (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 9 December 2010 09:23 (fifteen years ago)

yeh you have to dl the filter sets.

manic pixie dream girl phenomenon (Trayce), Thursday, 9 December 2010 09:27 (fifteen years ago)

If you get AdBlock Plus, it should automatically suggest you a filter list to download once you activate it. That list gets rid of most ads (including FB ones), but you can also manually block the ones that aren't filtered by the list.

Tuomas, Thursday, 9 December 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)

This will block everything Facebook, including outside sites feeding your details to Facebook:

http://lifehacker.com/5542041/block-sites-from-using-your-facebook-login-with-adblock-plus

If you just want to block Facebook ads, right-click a Facebook ad, do the adblock thing and choose the option that replaces most of the URL with a *

unintentional boob pic (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 9 December 2010 09:54 (fifteen years ago)

Basically Facebook is an insidious bastard that needs serious fortification if you want to keep Fuckerburg's nose out of your stuff.

unintentional boob pic (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 9 December 2010 09:55 (fifteen years ago)

I just 'friended' my daughter on facebook.

Or did she friend me?

Still....

Mark G, Thursday, 9 December 2010 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

oh ok, it was the filter SUBSCRIPTION that i needed to set up.

Go tools>Adblock Plus>Filters>Add Filter Subscription. Then choose EasyList (USA).

i swear this was automatic on every other computer ive used adblock on.

i was starting to have a panic attack looking at facebook ads

now instead of just saying "So and so commented on so and so's status" it gives a little teaser of the comment itself.

i can't explain why this is not OK, but it isn't for some reason.

Actually, Trayce: I now remember reading your post about that now but had no idea wtf you were talking about until I saw it for myself. Also you posted about how it dissapeared after a day or two so I didn't spend any time trying to figure out what you were talking about \(•_o)/

The new profile changes seem very stalker friendly. So I hear.

krakow, Sunday, 12 December 2010 11:35 (fifteen years ago)

Has anyone found that it's impossible to hide friends' (by which I mean younger family members) appalling online gaming choices? My sister just started playing something called Bubble Speed and you can't click on an option that says 'hide Bubble Speed'. ARGH.

Cunga, Monday, 13 December 2010 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

Woah holy shit! What an awesome idea.

manic pixie dream girl phenomenon (Trayce), Monday, 13 December 2010 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

"1) Take a screenshot of your Facebook profile page, open it up in Photoshop
2) Create 6 selections (1 for the "default" pic on the left, and 5 for the little image preview boxes)
3) Use these selections to create a "clipping mask" with the large image that you want to use, arrange/scale image as necessary
4) Crop and individually save each of the 6 images
5) Upload, tag, and arrange the images accordingly

NOTE: As you become tagged in newer pictures, they will offset those "preview" images, but you can manually hide any newer pictures (by clicking the X) to keep the integrity of your new, huge, disjointed profile image."
