Well pretty much Instapaper and ilx are the only ones I've used long-term regularly. Oh, reeder and news apps. But yeah, rest isn't really used enough to justify purchase really. Wd love to say I use iBooks & stanza for books/poetry but doesn't happen as much as my science-fiction self wd like.

I predict in 2011 there will be a show on youtube called "app hoarders".

for me the app w/ the most legs is Air Sharing so that I can use my touch as a key drive / pdf viewer; I guess in iOS 4 you can use the ibooks app to view pdfs maybe? but o/w this is super-useful to me.

i find viewing pdfs in ibooks kind of cumbersome and un-fun (although an improvement on trying to view them in... whatever i was using before) - has anyone here used both Air Sharing and ibooks & has a preference?

And save PDFs as well! I like it actually although it does get wearying for a really long book.

yeah I don't read anything long on it, just articles that I need to read on the train or on a flight, or when I want to bring a guidebook or maps I've marked up, & have them in pdfs & don't want to lug the paper around.

Pleco does pretty much the same thing as Word Lens but without the on-the-go translation, and specifically with Chinese characters. Really useful tech.

Stevie, I use Google Reader on Safari. It works just fine (and looks like about the same thing as Reeder) and it's free.

Just buy Reeder.

Everyone should just buy more apps.

What is better about Reeder?

first and foremost, not subject to random Safari refreshes, which is infuriating when moving between apps. That's worth $2.99 along for me. Twitter, instapaper, and delicious (rip) integration (among others).

I have never encountered random Safari refreshes, and I pray to Christ that I never do.

I never got what Instapaper was good for.

Instapaper is a catch all place for articles you don't have time to read. It's especially handy, as it rips the text out of a page without all the crap around it. It also opens links and saves the text for you. So say if you see a tweet or something with an interesting title and a link, you merely click 'read later' and there's the full text for you without fiddling around opening pages etc.

Then I would double click to move over to Twitter for example, then needed to go back to that entry in reader. So I double click and go back and Safari refreshes. Since it has already been marked as read, I have to dig around till I can find it again. Rage inducing.

Google Reader's page on Safari has never refreshed without my making it do so, even when I leave Safari to switch apps or not use the phone. I've been trying different things to make it refresh of its own volition but it's not doing it.

I plan to use VLC as well. Groupon should come in handy so that I don't have to mess with paper to redeem them.

I play with Grindr and Scruff, but only for window shopping. The conversational skills for that sort of thing elude me.

simplynoise is the best for white noise--99 cents for three kinds of white noise, oscillation volume controls. currently saving our life in an apt w/ tragic bar noise sitch.

The fucking calendar could use a lot of improvement. Especially in terms of how it syncs with Google's calendar, but also setting alerts is annoying - I forget the specifics, but there was a problem with alerts disappearing unless I fiddled with it a lot. Also, the longest advance alert is 2 days?! That's for shit.
