Oh, totally.

IMDB lists four cast members, but one is 'bartender' and one is 'waiter' so i think it fits
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)
i think we finished Wire season 4 last night :( :( :(
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)
how many years until season 5 hits dvd?
season 4 seemed very transitional, like not a lot really happened (i finished it too)
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)
yeah it was transitional but still good. also more drama-y and less cop show-y.
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)
totes i love love love the school subplot
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)
you think?
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)
I think it mostly seemed transitional because the unit wasn't really together... but I don't want to give any spoilers. The last episode was really depressing I thought.
― KitCat, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)
i am pretty tired of carcetti
doesn't anyone have hbo in this town? can't we gather somewhere to watch the final season as it unfolds? what night is it on?
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)
like, you're not sure if you finished it?
i've got two eps to go on season 4, it is bittersweet. i know i could torrent episodes or whatever when season 5 starts, but i like watching them on my tv all at once.
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)
i know one friend who is a big wire fan and has hbo just for that. i implied that she should let me come over once a week for a couple months to watch season 5, but i guess we're not that good of friends.
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)
the school subplot was a little corny, i thought, but still well-done. it was vindicated by the realism of the kids and the setting. actually i feel that way about a lot of the wire: the cop plotlines and characters seem a little stereotypical (though still well-written and well-acted) but the stuff on the street seems more real and visceral. though i guess i wouldn't really know.
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)
i guess we have finished it ... four discs just didn't seem like enough, i thought there were five for some reason.
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)
i might have mentioned this, but i told my teacher friend about the show and she thought it would be corny, all "poetry is just another way to rap" Dangerous Minds shit. then i showed her the episode with the first day of school and she was all about it.
i hope she likes the non-school stuff enough to get into it, because you can't just start with season 4, right?
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)
there are 13 episodes
you definitely cannot start with season 4! maybe i have ODed on the wire. i started to feel a little fatigue while racing through season 4.
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)
i would love to keep talking about the wire but i've got meetings for a couple hours, later.
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)
oof you sound like my mom when she's trying to get off the phone with me
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)
Office news
― KitCat, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)
1. that is cool for office 2. but that interviewer dude is a ridiculous ninny 3. and just1n p3t3rt1l is in office now? he is in all the interview scenes but doesn't say anything and of the ladies is mysteriously missing
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)
he's not even an interviewer, he's just some ridiculous dude
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
who says stuff
ugh fuck mtv
― dan m, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)
I couldn't make it past the horrifying bro-down Spring Break ad.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)
glad I haven't tried The Wire, life is too short for "transitional seasons"!
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)
Even a transitional season in the Wire is really good!
― KitCat, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)
dan, toby really wants to go to houghton for this:
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)
Man, most people at WMTU must have given up on being a radio station and just gone into the show-booking business. I still lurk on the station email list and they've been talking about bringing up some other W|nd|sh acts later in the school year. How will rural-ass MI react to RJD2???
― dan m, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)
i'm guessing there isn't still snow at that time of year, is there?
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)
Haha in March? There'll be snow well into April at least.
― dan m, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
like proper deep snow, enough to xcountry ski and stuff? we were thinking of going up north so toby could experience it, and that might be as good of an excuse as any.
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)
Probably enough for xc, but most of the hills will likely be closed/closing by that time.
This might be a good indicator (?): http://www.alumni.mtu.edu/snowfall/
― dan m, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
wow, i can't believe how much snow you get up there! you're properly rugged.
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)
i am whiny today. i feel like crap (major headache) but i have two projects due wednesday so i can't just go home and go to sleep, which is what i really need to do.
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)
maybe eating lunch will make me feel better
― n/a, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)
if you stop here on your way home i can give you some cinnamon spice cake that our landlords just brought over!
sorry to hear you have a headache, they are stinky and i'll bet cold face doesn't help either.
sarah, any photos of the new hair?
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)
No pix yet! I've mostly received nice comments. I hate it when people just say things like, "Your hair is different." Yes. Yes, it is.
― KitCat, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)
I want my money, damnit. My paycheck still hasn't shown up in my account. All I get from accounting is "supposed to be there today". Uh yeah, thanks, payday was Saturday.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)
get that money, son
― dan m, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)
I'm tryin' mang.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 December 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)
So I was really hesitant to go, but we had a half-off coupon, oh my god... was my haircut experience at Sportclips excellent. I thought it was going to be really ESPN bro gimmicky, which it was, but the scalp and shoulder massage more than made up for it.

Hello Chicago.
Anyone have any suggestions for someone with no car, a hotel room downtown, and no obligations for four days next week?
Hot Dougs is sadly closed. Dan gave me a list of bars downtown-ish, and Katie is probably carting me and the wife around on Thursday, but other than that, I'm free. I've been to Chicago quite a few times, but I never really did any touristy type stuff and I've never stayed downtown - I'm pondering the Field Museum, the aquarium, museum of Science and Industry (which I know is not downtown), Art Institute, drink at the top of the Hancock building, etc. Any of these more worth it than others?
Also, would getting to Devon street via public transport be worth it, or would I be spending half my day riding the train/bus to do so?
― joygoat, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)
would getting to Devon street via public transport be worth it, or would I be spending half my day riding the train/bus to do so? eh, it would probably take you 90 minutes to take the red line to loyola and the devon bus west. that's not really all day. it takes a good long while, but not like 3 hours each way or some shit. if you're near the red line it's no big deal.
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
j/v/c, i've never heard of sportclips before, their website kind of scares me!
hi joygoat, i'd also add the MCA to your list since they have a rock exhibit at the moment. and there's a huge map thing going on, if you're into that, at a ton of different museums. website is http://www.festivalofmaps.com/index.aspx
i don't think it'd take you that long on the red line, but i can't say from experience. don't try to get to the botanic gardens on public transportation, though. it may be OK in summer but it's not fun this time of year.
― colette, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
xp - (i live north of there and used to work downtown. i didn't have to catch a bus, but it took me 51-60 minutes usually)
― La Lechera, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
I was kinda scared to go there, but my fiance talked me into giving it a shot. Scalp massage, hot towel treatment, neck and shoulder massage, and (most importantly) a good haircut for less than $20 = classic, as far as I'm concerned.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)
Go to the map exhibit at the Field!!!
― sisut, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)
re: the wire, i don't think it's a "transitional season" fwiw, it just seems like they're trying new things while still keeping all those characters involved. i'm glad they didn't do another one with the original unit all back together taking down a drug lord (although it seems like that's where it's heading for season 5? i guess i should wait until i finish this one to talk).
― Jordan, Monday, 17 December 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)
i just ate some instant oatmeal that could not have been less than 2 years old
gross or frugal?
