you seem really concerned with how many people are reblogging you!!! and i mean, you go to the hard work of making creative, original shit so yeah you'd like to know its getting out there, but you should just enjoy making them IMO.

i do enjoy making them of course, but i do enjoy it when they get out a little bit further. it's kinda pathetic but i think i just got really pumped when i had the one that got all the reblogs, like a couple thousand. I mean, after posting on barrylutz.com for over a year and getting an average of about 5-6 hits (2-3 usually from me checking to see if someone commented or something), it was really gratifying and a bit motivator to make more.

How many followers do you have? cause that's way more key to getting more re-blogs and likes and shit than trying to re-create the creepy-cat magic.

I've been doing a very smallscale version of what you did - i followed the people that were like the "tipping point" enablers on the creepy cat gif (like they would reblog it and immediately 10-20 other people would reblog it from them). but i didn't follow that up with a bunch of likes on their stuff afterward. and most of them didn't follow me back. i will give that a shot, it's a good idea. plus i like the idea of doing "weeks" targeted at certain subjects. i might prepare a small set of gifs on a few different themes and then go all out in the outreach campaign.

yeah, go and follow those people, like their posts, etc. you can just unfollow them later if it doesn't yeild anything or if their posts are unbearable.

i really only did it for like a week or two, tbh. but this was a year and a half ago, aka still wild west days in tumblr history.

nah, it's not really working well because like grady said upthread, on tumblr it's all about getting a ton of followers, and even on these freak incidents where something sorta halfway blows up, i only get maybe 5-10 new followers. when something does get popular for a day or two, it's just because stonerparty or someone like that reblogs it, and then everything after that is just traffic coming from there. every once in a while some sad suckah will accidentally wander my way and click the "follow" button, but not many.
