Good job. They should have just asked me and I would have told them that you're about as much of an asshole as any practicing attorney.
― Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)
rather, NO MORE of an asshole
― Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:32 (eighteen years ago)
Well, until you get a few drinks in you.
REPORT: JUST THIS IN: CAFE IBERICO: SERIOUSLY UNDERWHELMING. Food was solidly so-so and the service was right there with the food. I'm having trouble describing the food--it was just really blah. It was spicy and stuff, but it just seemed...unfinished or something. Like it was 2 steps away from being restaurant-quality. The quail paella was pretty OK, but not outstanding.
The ice cream crepe was DE-licious though.

Whoa. Amanda Lepore's website lists amongst its benefits:
** Discounts on plastic surgery (we aren't kidding).
― Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)
Jenny, Jeff, Sarah and I went to Cafe Iberico like ... a year ago? Longer? I kind of felt the same way as you, Jesse. It was ok but not amazing, and it's weird eating in that huge loud room.
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)
Oh yeh, I forgot about that. There is this woman I work with at Catch who raves on and on and on about that place. And a guy I work with was badmouthing BaBaReBa and said that for GOOD tapas, go to Iberico. Bleh.

Who's in?
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)
I remember Cafe Iberico. Whatever I got, I remember it really sort of sucked.
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:20 (eighteen years ago)
Ugh, pumpkin beer. WHY
― dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)
Dogfish head pumpkin beer is the only pumpkin beer I like. It isn't just a beer with some sweet pumpkin syrup squirted in it. It's like brewed with pumpkin guts in it or something.

Most pumpkin beers are cloying or too sweet. I like bite with just slightest essence of pumpkin.
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)
I've never had that one, but I'd be willing to try it because Dogfish Head makes good beer. But yeah, the sweet is what puts me off.
― dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:41 (eighteen years ago)
I got some of their Golden Era (formerly Golden Shower) pilsner at Binny's the other day. It's fucking fantastic. $13 for a 4 pack though :((((((((((((((((((999
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:47 (eighteen years ago)
Hey, congrats to Jenny on showing some character.
Is Dogfish the brewery that had the night as Ras Dashen?
― Eazy, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:48 (eighteen years ago)
No, that was Two Brothers.
― jaymc, Saturday, 22 September 2007 06:19 (eighteen years ago)
I paid $11.99 for a six-pack of 60 Minute IPA last night.
I wonder what the food is gonna be like? I would probably go.
― Jesse, Saturday, 22 September 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)
11.99 is high. I think it is 8.99 or 9.99 at whole foods right now.
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)
I love beer. I love dinner. I love beer dinners.
― Jenny, Saturday, 22 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)
Does anybody have a good recipe for lemon bars?
― Jenny, Saturday, 22 September 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)
Happy Birthday, Jeff.
― dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
Happy BD, J.
A guy I work with makes outstanding lemon bars, but I don't have the recipe. So, no.

There was a New Holland Brewery (makers of Mad Hatter, Lucid Kolsch, etc.) beer dinner at the Fireside Grill recently that we thought about going to but didn't.
― jaymc, Saturday, 22 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)
I love beer dinners.
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
All your beer dinners, give them to me.
They belong to me.
You guys ... I didn't fuck up the GRE. :)
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)
I don't have the scores for the written part yet, obviously, but my total for the math and verbal section was the exact same as my old SAT scores, and the section scores were almost exactly the same (+10 on one, -10 on the other). SO JAZZED.
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)
You know what this means...
― dan m, Saturday, 22 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

(I say this because I am stuck at work again)
There will be drinking later. Too busy right now.

Also: did anyone ever lend me a copy of Colson Whitehead's Apex Hides the Hurt? I just found it on my bookshelf and I have no idea where it came from.
― jaymc, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
So excited to go to the game tomorrow.
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)
The game going on right now is great, are you watching it?

I didn't get a perfect GRE score or anything, by the way, but I did significantly better than I did on any of the practice tests and better than I was thinking I would do and good enough for me to feel like I don't have to take it again, unless I somehow did terribly on the written part (which I don't think I did).
One of the dumb things about the GRE is that in addition to the verbal, math, and writing sections, they will often (maybe always) include an extra section of verbal or math questions, which are "experimental" questions they are trying out. They don't count towards your score, but you don't know which of the two verbal or math sections was the noncounted experimental section, so you have to try hard on both. So I had to do two math sections, which sucked, because I was getting pretty worn out by the end. Fortunately, the first math section I did, which seemed easy, must have been the one that counted. But I still think it's lame to make people do extra work for no reason.
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:21 (eighteen years ago)
Yes
― Jeff, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)
I don't know why I'm being coy, I got 700/800 on verbal and 700/800 on math for a total of 1400/1600. Probably could have done a little better on verbal but the questions got pretty tough, and I did much better on the math than I was expecting.
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)
The game tomorrow should be great, the Cubs are kind of on fire right now.
― n/a, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)
HB to Jeff!
And really awesome about the GRE! I know you were worried.
I never doubted Jenny's character for a second. :)
