can't open the whiskey until i've picked up my brother from work, but log fire on and football recorded for when we get the green light in about 30 mins.

Just watched "Surrogates" on my newfangled Netflix Instant.

There have got to be better ways to use this free trial.

Gukbe, Saturday, 27 November 2010 22:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Evening plans include chili, BSG, and a book recommended by a hoos.

Wish I had a fireplace. I'll light some candles, maybe?

quincie, Saturday, 27 November 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

you'd need to sit very close to them, though

Wish I had a fireplace.

otm. this is my dream right now.

Gukbe, Saturday, 27 November 2010 22:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Do you have a cat? Because fireplace and whiskey without a cat is NAGL.

quincie, Saturday, 27 November 2010 22:45 (thirteen years ago) link

afraid that i can't stand them. i'll survive. got an acoustic guitar and a notebook, a cat would only demand my *creative attention* -_-

As soon as I leave work (in about 15 minutes or whenever) I'll be dropping off this week's charts and calling my husband to see if the cold/flu/whatever it is that I gave him has gotten bad enough to take him to the emergency room. If all's well, I'll be picking up some frozen food for tonight and going home to read ebooks, play games, drink, and tell my mother-in-law the times and dates of this month's doctor appointments over and over again before going to bed at 10 so I can get up at 5. Fun, fun, fun!

I don't think I've had a non-boring Saturday night for over a month. Good Thursdays/Fridays keep killing me off.

emil.y, Saturday, 27 November 2010 23:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Boring saturday nights are even better than boring friday nights, imo

Probably will top the evening off with a netflix instant and a good beer. Lady is going out for ladies night, I am in pre-finals mode.

ball (Hurting 2), Saturday, 27 November 2010 23:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I was up at 3am this morning, dealing with our fussy, confused 19-year-old cat, and stayed awake since my wife had been up until 2am dealing with work-related online stuff. (She works in internet marketing/social media for a major retailer so this has been a rough couple of days.) Went out for lunch and did a bunch of shopping, then took the most awesome two-hour nap when we got home at 3:30pm. Planning on doing a whole lot of nothing tonight -- maybe some TV, maybe video games, maybe just getting started on a new book.

Today's my 41st birthday btw.

Made me think of the Laphroaig entry here: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-complete-lunatics-guide-to-5-best-sipping-whiskeys/

Hailing from the Scottish island of Islay, Laphroaig had its beginnings in small, illegal stills, like Scottish moonshine, but eventually grew to be a respected and esteemed establishment, like a Scottish Red Lobster.

Nose

A strong smokiness dominates Laphroaig, mercilessly grinding out any other softer, weaker notes.

Palate

Earthy and unpretentious but utterly dominant. Like it knows. Like it knows you've been bad.

The Argument You're Going To Get In

You're not going to get in any arguments, largely because of the ball-gag she put in your mouth about two hours ago. You met her downstairs, in the lobby bar of the Ramada Inn that your shitty office supply company put you up in for this two-day conference. You would've argued against the trip when you were younger, but these days you leap at any chance to get away from your ugly wife and hateful children. You got to talking to some pretty blonde over drinks, where you were utterly charmed by her sultry, forceful ways; she was presumably wooed by how much you know about printers.

Who You'll End Up Fighting

Oh, nobody! Nobody at all. You're handcuffed to this radiator so tight, you can barely move.
You'll just have to do whatever you're told. Whatever anybody tells you to do.

Who You're Going Home With

Shit, you might never go home again if this girl keeps working it like - is she going for your stuff? She is! Oh yeah, the belt. The belt, baby. Or...the wallet? You guess that's uh, that's pretty good too. It's leather, at any rate. If she rears up enough, maybe gets a running start, you could leave a pretty good mark with a wallet.

Finish

A peaty, mellow burn, which will go nicely with the burning shame you'll fell as you give your statement to the police the next morning, naked save for an emergency blanket and the perfectly knotted tie you had her Double Windsor around your junk before she made off with your clothes and petty cash.

Tub Girl Time Machine (Phil D.), Sunday, 28 November 2010 00:09 (thirteen years ago) link

That would be considered a mild nip in the air in the Midwestern US.

Walked around Dublin for two hours last night in vain search for a taxi. It was freezing and I slipped about three times, bruises all over head. Serious disgust at Ireland.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 28 November 2010 10:09 (thirteen years ago) link

lol. Sat night taxi hunt anywhere on the southside is just pointless ime. Just better off walkin. Not great weather for it tho.

Spent two hours waiting on a train that kept getting postponed then cancelled at the last minute, decided to scrap plans to go to my favourite cousin's birthday party and sat in alone with a ready meal.

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Sunday, 28 November 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Nah darragh last night was psychotic! I've never in my life walked around for so long, it was the snow which got the nitelink cancelled, friends walked to fairview after two hours or so. I honestly was starting to worry about how cold I was when I gatecrashed a taxi. Awful conversation on the journey until the other passengers left me to talk gyan with the Ghanaian driver.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 28 November 2010 23:24 (thirteen years ago) link

omg you speak gyan
