Just bought this, I'm about to have a play with it. Looks like it might be amazing.

Sorry, that might be an unhelpful way of linking. I mean BeatMaker by Intua.

JimD, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

Yep, it's amazing.

JimD, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

is there a decent youtube downloader yet?

iphone doesn't support obama
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3121/2673681291_8475602e86.jpg

czn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

VNC now (not that I need it).

toby, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

that's weird - does the iphone use different dictionaries for different applications?? surely not!

the screenshot above is from google talk, which tries to correct obama to obsma (wtf is obsma?)

but sms.app recognises obama no problem

??

czn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

i think it learns as it goes, no? you type obama and it remembers it?

sunny successor, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's supposed to, yeah, but it still returns obsma for me in safari. oh well

czn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

what the actual fuck

I have somehow populated my iphone's contacts with my gmail address book contacts and so I now have several entries for the same people all with just an e-mail address - howtf has that even happened? I mean, howtf could a normal sync even do that?!

czn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)

I think I found the culprit: 10.5.3's introduction of "sync with google" - anyone else had a problem with this?

czn, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

Try and type "firefox" in notes app. It's impossible not to type firefix.

czn: I had exactly the same problem, but with sync turned off.

stet, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

also I wish it'd stop fucking changing uk to I'm

stet, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

jesus christ yes. every time i log in to ilx...

toby, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm. Turning off Push in settings seems to save a lot of battery life, even though nothing I was using supported it.

stet, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

anyone else marvelling at that apology from apple over me.com, then? can't post it here now -- posting this from the iPhone -- but is basically hand-wringing "we made a dick of it, lads" stuff ... and them saying they're not going to use the terminology "push" until it's a proper instant push service.

didn't realise they'd come in for so much flak about it.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.

Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.

Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.

We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.

We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.

Thank you,
The MobileMe Team

^^ how hard would it be to implement what they're talking about right there?

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

hey, fuck it: i've got a 30-day free extension on, umm, something i barely use.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

They just need to roll it out in an update of iCal, etc

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

Turning off Push in settings seems to save a lot of battery life

Peculiar. But good to know.

JimD, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

which apps would use this "push" other than mail and ical? if i am sync'ing using mobileme should i just keep "push" off?

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 22:37 (seventeen years ago)

i'm keeping it off. i fucking loathe the idea of things being "pushed" at me [1]. i will check my e-mail when i want to, thank you.

[1] yes, OK, texts excepted.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)

but at least i rarely get texts saying "DERE GRIMLY FIENDISH YORE ACCOUNT IS OVERDUE PLEASE SEND US ALL YORE MONEY NOW".

not that i get many e-mails like that either, but you get the idea.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 22:42 (seventeen years ago)

does pandora really work well over edge?

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 08:42 (seventeen years ago)

Aurora Feint is pretty great!

HI DERE, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:04 (seventeen years ago)

daaaamn. i just DO NOT HAVE THE TIME. but that's the kind of thing that could theoretically get me back into gaming.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:06 (seventeen years ago)

pandora works great over edge because it's streaming at 56kbps mono. sounds better than you'd imagine though.

toby, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

i wonder how many "free" apps will start charging? apparantly shazam will, and pandora will have audio ads.

toby, Thursday, 17 July 2008 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

"Remote" is awesome, a total godsend.

Dandy Don Weiner, Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:08 (seventeen years ago)

is there a fring client on the app store yet? it's basically like adium for iphone

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:12 (seventeen years ago)

www.fring.com (which I can't access at work to check if it's on app store, yet)

if so, tht must def be a killer app

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

it runs in the background too; not sure how they manage that... the home button only hides the app so you have to properly shut it down to exit it

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

is there a video recorded yet?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cozen/2677918296/

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

recorder*

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

fring appears to be jailbreak only from that webpage, which explains how it runs in the background.

toby, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

Newe version of NYTimes app is out, handles syncing properly (but still takes its time about it)

stet, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

new Facebook app

This updates brings the features you've been asking for: you can now write on your friends' walls, view their photo albums, and see their full profiles. Photo browsing is more fun now with the addition of photo tags - just hold your finger down on a photo to make them appear. Photo uploading is also much faster, and you can finally upload pictures from your library that you've previously taken. Dozens of bug fixes have also been fixed, improving stability greatly.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)

that's good.

there should be a master list of apps where the mobile version of the webpage is better!

s1ocki, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

make it so

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

i dont even have an iphone

s1ocki, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:14 (seventeen years ago)

is there an app for browsing flickr groups? as far as I'm aware m.flickr.com doesn't allow this

czn, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

there is an app called Mobile Flickr which is not actually made by flickr that lets you search on flickr groups. its a pretty good app except that it posts the photos you upload upside down.

sunny successor, Friday, 18 July 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

Google mobile is in the UK store now.

JimD, Saturday, 19 July 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

i have iphone now on iphone :D

someone should make an app called KITCHEN SYNC. i don't know what it does. grocery lists? keeps track of what's in your fridge?

s1ocki, Monday, 21 July 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

hey, can you re-arrange icons and move em around and stuff?

s1ocki, Monday, 21 July 2008 12:29 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, press and hold on one of the icons and the screen will go all wobbly, you can then move the icons around

KITCHEN SYNC pushes details of what's in your fridge and store cupboard up to the cloud and effortlessly syncs ON IPHONE so you never run out of olive oil

czn, Monday, 21 July 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

now tht everyone can screenshot, ppl shd post up screengrabs of their home screen on iphone

czn, Monday, 21 July 2008 12:37 (seventeen years ago)
