dude always promised savage beatdowns, but what he doesn't suspect is my secret weapon - a cricket bat

btw I am a firm believer in all sports being good, worthy and exciting, with one (1) exception, but I am not going to say what it is - other than that, I find it petty and excruciating that ppl display their ignorance by slagging off an entire sport which probably relates a lot to sports they like but with a funky twist

Agreed, which is why I'll give pretty much anything a shot. Cricket's sort of intimidating though.

ok here's the dealio - we make efforts w/ respective bat & ball games - and hurdle the ultimate culturally-ingrained barrier to universal consciousness - it can be done

Harrison's statement began with him quoting Benjamin Mays: 'The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It isn’t a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.'

He added: 'I give David credit as I never expected him to hurt me as he did, but anyone could see it was a premature stoppage and I should have been allowed to carry on and ride out the rough patch, even if that meant I would have got KOd.

The tragedy in life is lying on your back seeing stars.

Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:25 (fifteen years ago)

Does Audrey think people will still pay to watch him? I can't see him even getting a panto gig.

Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:26 (fifteen years ago)

This time next year, he'll be getting quietly voted out of the jungle after two weeks as no-one realises he's even there.

ailsa, Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:27 (fifteen years ago)

Ordinary is a fucking idiot who still doesn't get that the amateur game and the pro game are too different for success in one to guarantee success in the other.

absinthe of malithe (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:32 (fifteen years ago)

And if he thinks he'll ever be a World title holder, even in one of the Mickey Mouse belts, he's a stupendous fucking idiot.

absinthe of malithe (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:33 (fifteen years ago)

The thing I don't get though is that if you look at his Olympic gold it was won with fast hands, big combinations, keeping his opponents off balance, etc. He has never brought that style to the professional ring - preferring to be a passive boring counter-puncher (note: I like counter-punchers, good ones) who occasionally resorts to attempting to be a slugger if the counter-punch isn't working.

I think his ultimate problem though is that he doesn't like getting punched. He turned pro and discovered everyone, including your average £500 a fight chubby journeyman, was hitting harder and he had no headguard and basically couldn't take it.

That he landed one punch in three rounds in a world title shot against a midget shows how big his heart is.

Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:40 (fifteen years ago)

His fight against Sprott, when he threw fuck all for 11 rounds and then claimed he'd bust his right hand in the first, was the worst fight I've ever sat thru and summed up the guy for me. Everybody who got pissy cos they paid for the Haye fight had obv never watched Harrison "fight".

absinthe of malithe (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 2 December 2010 10:45 (fifteen years ago)

I was just watching some footage of Khan warming up in his dressing room and he's slipped a few left hooks - seems he's finally got round to looking at his own weaknesses.

Not sure I can stay awake for it :(

might watch

never heard of dude he's fighting

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

Never seen him fight but he's got an excellent record with huge k.o. stats so we might see Amir's head coming off (given that Willie Limond managed to hurt him).

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:42 (fifteen years ago)

someone's getting knocked the fuck out early in this fight

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

Khan busier, Madaina looking for bigger punches - Khan's got his range early.

Body shot - Madaina down already.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

Maidana, sorry

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

wow

maidana looks a bit....amateurish, even before he was getting hit, a bit wild

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

Just saw the replay - two beautiful body shots, one to each side.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

yah

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

khan is damn fast

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

Khan first to everything, carries amazing power with that speed. Maidana looking very slow and clumsy & already looks to have lost belief.

Still, Khan's chinny so he's got a shout if he stays in it.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:52 (fifteen years ago)

non expert thought at the beginning was khan's desire to protect chin leaves him vulnerable to bodyshots

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

Stream I have here has no commentary :)

Khan getting a bit more cagey in the third, maybe Maidana hurt him I dunno but he seemed to go back on his heels.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

Fourth round was tasty. Khan was picking his shots for fun then found himself on the wrong end of a few heavy punches. Maidana's all over the place at times but you can see Khan's wary of him.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

Point off for attempted elbow coupled with the early knockdown means Maidana probably needs a knockout. Khan seems to be taking his punches.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

Though probably taking too many of them - he looked hurt that time :)

So much for my early knockout prediction.

Khan about 7 rounds up after 6 but could still easily lose this.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

this was always gonna be about khan on points or maidana ko i guess

impressive recovery from maidana in sixth as it looked like he was in trouble

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 04:07 (fifteen years ago)

Maidana looks like he's starting to enjoy it now.

Insane Clown 2 Electric Juggalo (onimo), Sunday, 12 December 2010 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

nice right hook

salvia divanorum (nakhchivan), Sunday, 12 December 2010 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

khan looks big for a 5'10 dude fighting at 140
