thinking about steve jobs, watching the reaction on twitter. hope he is ok.

caek, Monday, 15 November 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not saying Apple won't make bank - only that it's not Earth-shattering news, particularly since it's been exactly one year since Beatles fans rebought the albums they care about.

even if the news is just the beatles, you know this is going to be in every news outlet in the world, right?

caek, Monday, 15 November 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

Going to wait until the copyrights run out and download it all free from archive.org.

Spotify doesn't pay the labels enough for them to want to do it

Interestingly, a friend of mine had a meeting with Spotify recently and they told him that they now pay (in total) more in royalties in the UK than iTunes do. How much of this reaches the artists, I don't know.

I would be surprised if the Beatles stuff is just a small piece of whatever announcement is happening tomorrow. Could be wrong, of course...

Given that apple will only be paying royalties for streaming previews at the moment, (sales stuff handled through the labels), this wouldn't be hard.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure I follow you. I don't think they were making a cute point that excluded royalties from iTunes sales on a technicality.

Alba, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

(I think the word "royalties" was mine, if that's the confusion. The point was that labels were getting more money from Spotify than from iTunes. It's all rather roundabout, because the labels themselves have a stake in Spotify, but anyway)

Alba, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

I find that hard to believe.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

Me too. My friend's not a bullshitter though. Perhaps Spotify are.

Alba, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

I heard they're going to have free streaming Beatles for everyone who has iTunes.

How often do Apple's enigmatic announcements contain actual hints? Apart from pix of guitars, obv.

truthfully in hindsight we shouldve known it was going to be something dumb seeing as how theres no event right

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

'never forget' wtf. If that's a Beatles hint it's a rubbish one. What about:

- You'll read the news tomorrow, oh boy
- Tomorrow may rain so I'll follow the press statement
- Yesterday all my remasters seemed so far away

Those are worse but you get my point.

14d. South African cleric (2,2) (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 16 November 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

- Tomorrow we will announce the availability of the Beatles catalog from the iTunes store

Maybe we'll get to hear Carnival Of Light? Or is this *just* the common or garden Beatles back catalogue? Can't be can it, i mean there must be some extra hook, there usually is with the Fabs.

piscesx, Tuesday, 16 November 2010 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

PAUL IS DEAD (so his family licensed the Beatles tracks to us)

$150? Really?

Who is that going to attract? Isn't it likely that the ppl most likely to spend that type of money on Beatles shit already has most of what they're offering?
