Also don't forget that the new Starbucks flavors are rolling out on November 7th and we have to go get something with peppermint or some shit. The cute barista needs me.

There's a nice dive bar (Bob & Barbara's) at 15th & South--with live jazz on the weekends.

Drastic times require what? Drastic measures! Who said that? T (President Keyes), Wednesday, 3 November 2010 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I think I was at that bar once waiting to play a show (maybe at the TLA upstairs or somewhere else on South). There was this really really old guy playing the organ but it was still kind of good if creaky.

so happy reading this thread and seeing how many places still exist, remember trudging trough a blizzard to Bob and Barbara's and they actually opened back up for us out of sympathy, the last drop (remember when that opened in 93 or so) dancing at Silk City, ah memories of early 90s.

three weeks pass...

Okay, so not only does Cookie Confidential, the new cookie shop on 5th right above South, have AMAZING cookies (srsly could not stop buying the vegan key lime ones), but the lady who runs it (Melissa from Tattooed Mom) has decided to purchase several of Konstantin Grcic's "Chair One"s to use as chairs; this made me unimaginably giddy. Seriously you guys have to check this place out.

It is important and healthy that we express our our dissenting opinions in an unmitigated way, even to the point of being a put-down.

OK so this is a "trailer" for this monthly party they've had in Philly for a really, really long time but just, seriously. Come on.

ahaha oh man

i like how as part of their efforts to show how glamorous it is they keep showing the "hot blondes" or whatever they're supposed to be who basically look like confused underage girls from bucks county

In other news, PARIS!!!

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 8 April 2011 22:47 (fifteen years ago)

Endhiran looks like fun, and maybe Cold Fish and The Womb. I'm definitely going to the awards ceremony for John Carpenter just to see the guy, even if The Ward sucks.

IT IS HAPPENING

In a couple of months my boss is cutting my hours and I'm moving into the city. Looking for apartments in Fishtown right now, though that's not set in stone (because I don't know anything).

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

We are moving next month... Philly ilxors unite!

Mordy, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:21 (fourteen years ago)

All two of us!

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

Technically just one since I live in NJ, but maybe 3 if dayo wants to get in on it?

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

FYI there are no grocery stores or the like in Fishtown. I recommend South Philly, maybe east of Broad, but that's just me.

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:31 (fourteen years ago)

we're moving to bala

Mordy, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:33 (fourteen years ago)

cynwyd?

british sb power (dayo), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

yes

Mordy, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

don't think I've ever been there

british sb power (dayo), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

Good luck with the moves, guys.

Yeah, Telephone, to chime in with Stevie, there are not really any for-real grocery stores in Fishtown proper at this point, so that is a little weird. But depending on your transportation situation and different inclinations, maybe that is not a big deal. Many folks loooove living there. There is a store just over the border in Port Richmond, plus a huge Pathmark in NoLibs that may or may not open any day now. Plus there are a couple of little markets scattered about. Anyway, yeah good luck. I guess follow your instincts, go with a part of town that seems a good fit to you or that you feel comfortable in

dell (del), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

god I had forgotten all about the philadelphia/jersey accent

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

I have a super strong Philly accent, actually.

Mordy, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

haha I'll have to talk to you in real life some day!

think my least favorite accent is the neast accent

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

I thought I had a Jersey/Philly accent bcz lady at the Starbucks on Broad & Pine asked me if my Starbucks card was an international "because of my accent", and a week later some guy asked me if I was Irish (also because of my "accent").

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

UNTIL the lady @ Starbucks, rather

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

also "was an international ONE 'because of my accent'"

maybe I should just repost that

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

i used to get made fun of in high school (when I was living in Pittsburgh) because I'd pronounce "home" like "h-OE-me"

Mordy, Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

...as opposed to?

The worst is "beggle" for bagel, IMO. Also, that tendancy to pronounce long-O with a slight "ew" sound ("prewvolewne")

brie on crüt (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 23 June 2011 15:18 (fourteen years ago)
