whoops, I forgot that 30 minutes earlier I wrote that the images start looping when they're individually done loading, instead of waiting for all of the images to load and start simultaneously. my memory is approximately 4.5 seconds long

It's working now!

I'm thinking about doing a bunch of these tbh. Yesterday I picked up The City by Frans Masereel, which is a series of 100 woodcuts illustrating city life in Weimar Germany from 1925 (also available for free here: http://www.nebulous-cargo.com/masereel/woodcuts/city1.html).

Z S, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

totally fucking wonderful

markers, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, that one is amazing. Definitely do more!

emil.y, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

the gif tesselation upthread actually works well despite being (or because?) out-of-sync

Adrian Roosevelt "Adie" Mike (nakhchivan), Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, I probably will! I have a few other commitments to take care of first (ILX Compilation 4 cover and a mini-comic that'll hopefully be printed and published by Justine+Jordan's Chance Press in a month or two. but then I'm thinking it would be neat to do ALL 100 of them and just put them on a new website.

Z S, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

whoops, xpost

Z S, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

whoa, that's weird, the tessellation actually goes in and out of sync! I watched it for a minute and on one cycle everything was perfectly lined up...and then it went back out of sync. That's strange because the timing for each of the tiles is exactly the same - same amount of frames, same timing (.1 second) for each frame. huh.

Z S, Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

doesn't it depend on the filesize (hence loadting times) of the individual gifs?

Adrian Roosevelt "Adie" Mike (nakhchivan), Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

though of course that isn't consistent, so each f5 gives a different pattern!

Adrian Roosevelt "Adie" Mike (nakhchivan), Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

They start looping once they're done loading, yep, which explains why they're not in sync at the beginning. But what's weird is that they're looping at different speeds! Like, if the upper-left tile starts half a second earlier than the upper-right tile, it should continue to be half a second ahead no matter how long you look at it (since the two tiles have the same amount of frames and I set the speed at the same rate for all 9 images)...but after a while, the upper-left tile will start to only be .3 seconds faster, than .2, .1, then identical, then .1 slower, .2 slower, etc.

I have probably just written the most boring post ever posted on the internet. *champion*

the sync doesn't change once they're all loaded afaict....synched perfectly now actually (thanks to coolsloth)

Adrian Roosevelt "Adie" Mike (nakhchivan), Saturday, 6 November 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

it seemed to me there that it got in sync then fell out of it. You're the Steve Reich of gifs. Woaaaaah now it's on a crazy cycle moving across them. Well that's me sorted for my Saturday night entertainment.

i am always so happy when i see this thread back in my bookmarks. Never fails to deliver, and this time is no exception. Especially love the creepy cats.

Jibe, Friday, 12 November 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

yay doug henning

forksclovetofu, Friday, 12 November 2010 16:38 (fifteen years ago)

uh, i don't mean to jinx myself but I think the cat picture may be blowing up on tumblr, to a mild degree? I just posted it a while back and now a bunch of teenagers are reblogging it back and forth. I know this shouldn't be exciting but my iphone is buzzing with every reblog and it's getting more and more frequent. WEIRD

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

ok, not "blowing up" but 60 or so reblogs, which is way more than the 0-2 that I usually get!

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

you're gonna roll snakeyes sooner or later dude

forksclovetofu, Friday, 12 November 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

or box cars. or whatever the good thing is.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 12 November 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

60 is pretty awesome.

I've learned that there's pretty much a fuckyeah blog for each United State.

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

I think this one is relatively more popular because a) I tagged it with "cats", and b) it's slightly creepy so it appeals to sad teenz. The next thing I do will be back to the 0 note bin

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:52 (fifteen years ago)

Hey, we can't all be threeframes.

http://tinyurl.com/koalalala (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

there's a fuckyeahgifs tumblr that's very big, and you can submit gifs to it, but I don't really understand how to submit to it, tbh. usually I don't fail at the internet to that degree, but I get the feeling I'm not doing it right

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

well, I'm up to 92. gotta admit that it's not playing out the way I expected: I always thought that when a post got a bunch of activity out of nowhere, it also came attached with a bunch of new "followers". I figured all it took was one lucky post to get a big base of people following you, and after that it was pretty much like compound interest. But none of these 92 people who reblogged are following me (well, 1 brave soul did), so the next thing I do is back at square one. I feel like the guy who was really convinced by the ponzi scheme strategy and is JUST now figuring out it's a house of cards!

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

Love all of that last batch, but yeah, the cats are amazing.

this is weird

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

i mean, really fucking weird. this 14-year-old named TOGEPENIS reblogs it, and within a minute or two NINE people have reblogged it from him. Which means this kid is basically like the guy that Malcolm Gladwell ran into that inspired The Tipping Point. So now I have to follow 14-year-old TOGEPENIS to entice him to follow me, because if I can get him to follow me then it's like high % tipping point whenever he reblogs me.

delete internet, i am spooked

T-Rex's erotic imagination (Z S), Friday, 12 November 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

honestly? you lost me at "TOGEPENIS"

"ihatezachwithaburningpassion reblogged this from kimmiethefuckingsquid"

have to admit that I did a doubletake when I read that (the first part), and was really worried that a particular ex had joined tumblr

thanks! I felt stupid the second I finished it, though, because I realized the sun in the middle was also yellow, and in fact more yellow than the "yellow planet"!

really cool and evocative in that gif
which is also a funny gif!

I have the worst eye for color combos...so last weekend I bought this awesome book!

http://i53.tinypic.com/29wp9g4.jpg
Color Index 2

It has a bunch of attractive color combos and their RGB/CMYK codes. And one of the color combos it had was the one I used in the planets. So basically I have no idea what I'm doing but I can sorta follow instructions. :-/
