Jeff's transition from zombie to normal without stopping texting was masterful.

@perpetua Is every other episode of Community going to be a lame movie parody now?

yeah, you would think that it would get old, but it's a testament to how great a show it is that after decades of south park/simpsons/family guy 5 parodies per episode, these writers still manage to find fresh ways to pull it off.

― get off my lawn (rockapads), Friday, October 29, 2010 3:23 PM (1 hour ago)

Community is more about the parody of movie cliches than specific films.

Dean Pelton's Lady Gaga costume was soooo much better than Gabe's.

This was the first thing I thought of:

and it does it so quickly! Troy and Zombie Abed was fast but that look was enough to be effective. xpost

Ratings were up because of the Shrek lead-in. Around the same numbers as 30 Rock normally gets, so that's good. The next episode's drop will be important.

was so weird how they both had the exact same lady gaga joke

NBC just ordered two additional eps this season, bringing the total to 24. Hooray!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

The Abba soundtrack was the icing on the cake.

romoing my damn eyes (Nicole), Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

Glad they ordered those before they saw the drop in ratings post-Shrek special lead-in.

"I am a fairly respected poster." (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

I love Community, but damn is NBC desperate if they're ordering a full season and additional episodes.

Gukbe, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

Trying to remember where I red it but apparently Community pays for itself in DVD sales not on first run and NBC use online viewing figures as a predictor of this. This is good as the first run ratings are shocking.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna ask for Community DVDs for Christmas then

Life! The Story of Life (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

It might pay for itself but NBC really needs hits to up revenue. DVD sales and online figures are fine, but nothing compared to the revenue stream of the first run of a primetime hit.

Gukbe, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)

Can't see the affiliates being too happy either.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

I love the show, but there's really no reason it should go beyond a second season. It's a community college! I'm just glad they're getting a full second season.

NBC could do itself a lot of favors by looking at cable (their USA shows do incredibly well and, in most cases, really aren't that bad). If they go edgy like FX or (of late) AMC, they may earn a new reputation as the network which will deliver excellent television at the risk of upsetting the FCC. (I mean, obviously they can't go as far as FX or AMC, but they can push it.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

There's limited value in attempting a gritty and/or edgy cable drama on network TV though. AMC/FX/USA numbers are so far below where networks need them to be. Lone Star is an example. Human Target is probably the closest to a USA show on networks, and it's hardly thriving.

Gukbe, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

I guess you're right. They need to shake it up in one way or another, though, because they've got NOTHING.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

When you only have one show (The Office) that can offer you a lead in to build a new series, you're in trouble, yeah. Still, it works out for the fans of Community. and 30 Rock. and Friday Night Lights.

Gukbe, Thursday, 4 November 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

The networks definitely have their own personalities. I mean, if I'm watching Grey's Anatomy (for example...I actually haven't watched it in years), I know right away I'm watching an ABC show. NCIS is unmistakably CBS. I can't even imagine either of those shows on alternate networks, and especially not on NBC. NBC dramas over the last decade just seem to have some kind of cheap sheen on them. Friday Night Lights and Southland were the most surprising exceptions, and neither of them translated in that setting.

just watched the zombie ep... if you guys really think that 1/ that was a billionth as good as paintball and 2/ the season hasnt pretty much been a complete fiasco then i don't really know what to say. perpetua otm.

r|t|c, Friday, 5 November 2010 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

Abed-as-Robocop was, sure, gimmicky, but totally worth it for Britta's "rowboat-cop" line.

Son of Sisyphus of Reaganing (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 5 November 2010 04:00 (fifteen years ago)

It's not so much that it was gimmicky, it's that it was a reductive, cheap way to portray his Asperger's, which was handled a little more deftly last season iirc

Simon H., Friday, 5 November 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

Good point, but it could also be argued (not necessarily by me, I'm just playing devil's advocate) that this is the manifestation of Abed's Asperger's, as seen through Abed's eyes -- a bittersweet gaze into his psyche.

Or something.

Son of Sisyphus of Reaganing (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 5 November 2010 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

totally lost my shit at the secret garden/alice in wonderland-type music they played when troy found the trampoline.

the last third of the zombie episode was basically a donald glover showcase, idk how people could watch it and think "oh THIS isn't what i watch community for."

Also Garry's weather report!

Britta looking even hotter with every episode!

Boob bump!

This episode was perfect. I hope they use more different places like they did in the cold open - they can leave the library and classroom occasionally.

no way zombies was as good as paintball but... complete fiasco... u trippin homie

max, Friday, 5 November 2010 08:14 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh, people who keep expecting another paintball episode don't really get this show and, tbh, should probably not even be watching it. This season has been outstanding, and last night's was amazing. Great use of Matt Walsh. My favorite lines:

"They're like walking in dreams."
"Eventually its going to be a maze."

Also, great Andy Dick cameo.
