One Tree Hill catching up on the O.C.

These two shows always get mixed up in my mind anyway. They should do some sort of cross-thing, like Seth goes to N.C. and hooks up with Peynton. Too bad they're not on the same network.

Actually, I am most confused by the similarity of the two ditzy brunette, best-friend side kicks who end up stealing the affection of the leading men:

Brooke

Summer

Not to mention this Joey Potter–manque, Haley

some fun facts: the role of ryan on the o.c. was first offered to chad michael murray, who passed to be lucas on one tree hill because he thought it was more well-written. also, the role of solid, working-class uncle keith on the latter show is played by craig sheffer, who many years ago was the rich kid villain hardy jenns in some kind of wonderful.
brooke is terrible, but perhaps not quite as irritating as summer.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

what the heck is one tree hill?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:20 (twenty years ago) link

An abomination. Just take my word for it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:20 (twenty years ago) link

is it a good abomination?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:37 (twenty years ago) link

These parallels are muy interesting. I can't believe CMM passed on the O.C. He will be floundering in WB-obsuritie foreva. My mom say the O.C. version of CMM on a talk show--said he was cuter on the show that on the O.C. From VA I think, C'ville? One Tree Hill grows. The cinematography is very good. I don't think they know what they are doing lately so ever episode is like, storm, near-death, hurricane, car crash, near-death, etc. If I had to choose between Brooke and Summer I think I would choose summer. Looks like CMM lost out again. Maybe Bertolucci will keep him in mind for his next movie. Bertolluci should direct a WB–series.

(PS: One Tree Hill is on after Gilmore Girls, which, as we all know, introduced to the world to the O.C.'s Seth.)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 26 February 2004 01:36 (twenty years ago) link

gilmore girls tonight was awesome!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:13 (twenty years ago) link

I saw about 10 minutes once and thought it was the most painful TV I'd ever seen. WTF?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:24 (twenty years ago) link

(Yeah, I hated 90210 too.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:24 (twenty years ago) link

you talking about the OC?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:25 (twenty years ago) link

punk?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 February 2004 05:25 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, the OC. Never seen Gilmore Girls. How can anyone like this? I can't even look at the characters for very long, let alone sit through their 'dialogue'.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:02 (twenty years ago) link

Is One Tree Hill more Dawson's Creek-esque?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:13 (twenty years ago) link

(than the OC)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 26 February 2004 06:15 (twenty years ago) link

this thread makes me more homesick than anything somehow

i think mary is correct, bertolucci's destined to be a w.b. teen drama director and would be damn good at it, plus then we can have the inevitable rory gilmore/jean-louis trintigant showdown

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 26 February 2004 08:08 (twenty years ago) link

"You're dating that emo geek?"

har har

Theresa rules over Marissa, btw.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 26 February 2004 08:11 (twenty years ago) link

You guys can talk all the shit you want about O.C., G.G., and similar, but you have to at least respect the ability they have to make a guy like me wanna go out and murder some white people

Le Coq, Thursday, 26 February 2004 08:18 (twenty years ago) link

yeeps!

sundar you should make sure you watch some of the scenes with peter gallagher.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago) link

What happened on G.G.? I missed it.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago) link

Lorelai's mom freaked out about feeling like she hadn't achieved anything in her life. Luke loaned Lorelai money. Dean, predictably, still has a thing for Rory, and seems to be feeling a bit overwhelmed in his marriage. I don't remember what else offhand.

Is One Tree Hill worth seeing?

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:40 (twenty years ago) link

I've started watching One Tree Hill almost religiously because Peyton is a dead ringer for my girlfriend, which makes the show kind of creepy and surreal.

I think that's neither endorsement nor criticism.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago) link

Is no one else weirded out by Moira Kelly and Craig Scheffer playing characters old enough to have teenage kids? That adds to the surrealism for me, that's for damn sure.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago) link

yeah, i think that's freaky. as i mentioned upthread, the last time i remember seeing craig sheffer he was terrorizing the nerdy kids in teen movies so his new role is a bit strange to me.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:03 (twenty years ago) link

Definitely, give One Tree Hill a try. I think G.G. should come up with some new challenges for Lorelai besides the money thing. We all know that her parents will bail her out in the end, even if it was Luke who did the loaning this time. I like Moira, but Craig, no offense, but he looks a little . . . is part of his face paralyzed or something?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago) link

in the wtf! dept, has anyone noticed that peyton's webcam/site is called punk and disorderly?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago) link

Haha, yes I noticed, but I just got the full signif now!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:18 (twenty years ago) link

The "Arrested Development" parallels are getting a little thick... now not only are they both Newport Beach McMansion shows, but "The OC" is working in a construction business scandal plot... ("AD" is much better of course.)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

moira kelly with a teenage kid? why just yesterday she was skating/falling in love with db sweeney

but you know me, i was freaked out by martin donovan having teenaged kids in 'pasadena'

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:07 (twenty years ago) link

hahah amateurist makes a cutting edge reference! i knew it i knew it!

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:38 (twenty years ago) link

Cutting Edge is exactly why it freaks me out!

one month passes...
(From Page 6) Luke may not return:

ONE of the hot young actors on Fox's "The O.C." might not be back next year. Chris Carmack, who plays Luke Ward, declined to sign a contract with the series - not due to money concerns, as some people were saying, but because producers refused to guarantee him airtime in the upcoming year. "It's not about money," Carmack's rep, Jerry Shandrew, said. "They gave him a generous raise. They just refused to give him a guarantee. He's bummed people would think he would leave the show because of money. Chris has a lot going on. He couldn't sign a contract without a guarantee. He is doing a movie with Dennis Hopper for USA, 'The Last Ride,' and has some other things on the table. Chris decided to keep on working without a contract and pursue other roles." Other actors on the series, including Benjamin McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Peter Gallagher and Adam Brody, are said to already have signed contracts that do give them guaranteed airtime.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 28 March 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago) link

He's "bummed" because they've totally turned him into Ryan's bitch.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 30 April 2004 16:26 (twenty years ago) link

I'm embarassed to say I know this, but their new single was featured prominantly in this week's episode. The BB themselves were not in the episode. This was the first episode I've ever watched and it sucked.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 30 April 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago) link

I'm embarassed for the Boys. How sad.

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:30 (twenty years ago) link

i have been informed that there was a catfight in the pool. But I haven't seen it yet because I was busy that night.

I kind of thought this show jumped the shark with the Rooney episode but it's regained it's footing by focusing on the adults more. Oh how I wish Marissa would choke on something though.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:50 (twenty years ago) link
