i hear peter cook was a bit of a tosser.

Call me mean-spirited, but media saturation of any individual is enough to make me dislike them, even if they might have been or still are funny.

Saw him on the edition of Buzzcocks which replaced the scheduled Russell Brand one. Didn't make much of an impression on me one way or the other.
Then there was a feature on him in Guardian Weekend in which he seemed a pretty repulsive sort of fellow.
On balance he doesn't annoy me a trillionth as much as Michael fucking McIntyre.

(if we're talking total, unsolicited media saturation)
^^^^^this (though i saw mcintyre do standup a year ago and he gets less repulsive as the set wears on)

i recognised his voice pretty much straight away. it did seem stupid to give it to Gervais who has done fuck all this year and his video speech was tired - but G&S was obv going to win an award anyway. the awards show was crap tho, probably poorer for lack of Ross - Deayton, a few early gags aside, fluffed lines and banter a few times and they ran so late they cut to the credits during his final message. also Carrot was really unfunny for someone winning a contribution/achievement award.

i watched the youtube clip of kevin bishop throwing things at the inbetweeners guys as they collected their award ( ) and thought he looked like a nasty coked-up fuckwit. checked out some of his sketches and the reality is far far worse:
so depressing that this is where british comedy is right now. the clips ive seen of inbetweeners aren't much better either, but this bishop guy is the absolute pits. like bobby davro level pits. even if he was slightly funny he shat all over it by being in a fucking natwest advert. is this a new low in vaguely-edgy comedians sucking corporate cock the second it's offered?

Late with this, but since due to the strikes CBS hasn't been able to start production on their intended Corden replacement (a reboot of @midnight), they've gone with...reruns and previously unseen episodes of Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed, a syndicated panel show that ceased production in 2016.
Yeah.

After Midnight (the delayed CBS Corden replacement) has a host and is happening next year
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/01/arts/television/taylor-tomlinson-after-midnight-host-stephen-colbert.html
In a shake-up of the late-night television landscape, the stand-up comic Taylor Tomlinson, 29, will take over the time slot after “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on CBS. The move makes her not just the only woman in the job on a late-night show on network television now, but also the youngest by two decades.Tomlinson will serve as host of “After Midnight,” based on “@midnight With Chris Hardwick,” a series that premiered on Comedy Central in 2013 and was canceled four years later. That show, with Hardwick as the host, featured a panel of comics.Among the executive producers of the new show is Stephen Colbert, who announced the news on his program on Wednesday. Tomlinson will start in 2024.
