But I will certainly watch the first couple of eps at least.

A brownish area with points (chap), Thursday, 14 October 2010 11:04 (fifteen years ago)

I read thar his rationale is not so much to add to the mythology (originally it was going to be set in the public domain world of Romero's first Dead film) as to fill in the viewer's desire to know what happens NEXT, and then NEXT, and then NEXT--how peoploe keep on living in the world post-zombie apocalypse, as opposed to the few days/weeks that a film can show.

buildings with goats on the roof (James Morrison), Thursday, 14 October 2010 11:44 (fifteen years ago)

zombie apocalypse is a great canvas for right wing/nra/libertarian types to express their i-told-you-so-liberal-faggits wish fullment on and i thought the books veered close to this territory too often for my reading comfort.

MAX NOT FOR MOD (Roberto Spiralli), Thursday, 14 October 2010 12:43 (fifteen years ago)

I really meant to ask, "does it end?" as in "is this series going to be 5 or so seasons of awesome shit all heading towards a conclusion or is it just going to dither on and on?"

This is my fear about the show as well...I know the comic goes on forever, shows like this don't seem to work when they are completely open ended and aren't headed towards any type of conclusion.

romoing my damn eyes (Nicole), Thursday, 14 October 2010 12:43 (fifteen years ago)

Well, what makes the comic (and in turn the show) so risky is that there is no conclusion to head toward. Most of the planet is dead or undead. What resolution could possibly occur? The only thing I can think of is some sort of "the children offer hope for the future" ending, because what else can they do?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 14 October 2010 14:41 (fifteen years ago)

Why do people hate the comic but expect this to be good? Should I not even ask?

because i'm pretty sure kirkman has no idea how human relationships work, and everything reads like teenage melodrama. any writer would be an improvement.

also torture porn

thomp, Thursday, 14 October 2010 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 14 October 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

that must have been after i stopped reading (which was, i don't know, somewhere in the 20s?)

the parking garage has more facebook followers than my band (Jordan), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:00 (fifteen years ago)

You talking about Michonne and The Governor?

not Morbius old, but still (Phil D.), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

i presume. that's like season two or three material though, really.

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't read the comic (but there are pretty convincing criticisms itt) but we bought the iTunes season pass for the show ($10 - cheap!) and I'm excited. The trailer looks pretty creepy.

Regular Stormy (Jenny), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

i liked the first few books i guess

but the trailer for this looked pretty shitty dudes

guanciale diary (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:27 (fifteen years ago)

No, it looked creepy. Didn't you read what I just posted?

Regular Stormy (Jenny), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

oh shit - sorry

guanciale diary (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:29 (fifteen years ago)

np

Regular Stormy (Jenny), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah the trailer was promising

what an embarrassment for slocki

the parking garage has more facebook followers than my band (Jordan), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:32 (fifteen years ago)

it will be an embarrassment for YOU when the show comes out and is lame

guanciale diary (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:33 (fifteen years ago)

then everyone will be like oh sorry slocki and i will be like whatever and just walk right by you w/o even making eye contact

guanciale diary (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:33 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha

F-Unit (Ste), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

that will be because you are a zombie.

Brick Frog! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

ya, because i made myself a real zombie because the tv version was so lame

guanciale diary (s1ocki), Thursday, 14 October 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

Gnawing out your own brains in protest at terrible television is the new "I'm mad as hell and..."

fill in the viewer's desire to know what happens NEXT, and then NEXT, and then NEXT--how peoploe keep on living in the world post-zombie apocalypse, as opposed to the few days/weeks that a film can show.

If it does this at all well, then I will love it. I am fascinated by just how people are supposed to get by and live their lives under extreme circumstances, and the accommodations they have to make in order to have any order at all. What kind of barter springs up? What turns out to be useful? That kind of thing.

Black Arkestra, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

Zombies have an unfortunate tendency to do that.

romoing my damn eyes (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

watching THE COLONY, discovery channel's "survivor: apocalypse" reality show, and i keep expecting zombies to stagger around the corner

some droopy HOOS in makeup (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

whoa ep one of this was absolutely fantastic...blown away.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Friday, 29 October 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

Don't raise my expectations please. OK? Thanks!

musicfanatic, Friday, 29 October 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

First ep was pretty solid IMO, they get the "origin" shit over and done without too much trouble while throwing in a few nice details. Closing song is pretty WTF though.

Simon H., Friday, 29 October 2010 22:40 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, just watched this. surprisingly fucking good tbqh.

circa1916, Saturday, 30 October 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah sorry to raise expectations! Basically I felt it was v good dramatically, v tense, managed to make the events feel sad/disturbing, and looked great. The zombies behave and look far far better than say 28 Days Later.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 30 October 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

Ladies just can't learn to turn off a damn light or not to take sentimental mementos instead of survival supplies, amirite?

Melissa W, Monday, 1 November 2010 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

What I expected, especially after watching the 4 minute episode 1 preview
but I liked it all the same.

Here's hoping this series is a long good zombie movie

popular music is destroying our youth (CaptainLorax), Monday, 1 November 2010 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

This was v v satisfying
also, my girlfriend tends to leave the lights on
and she spent large chunks of this telling me when she could look

a pun based on a popular ilx meme (forksclovetofu), Monday, 1 November 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

Very well done. Nothing surprising or new, but the sniping the wife/killing the crawling torso scene was great.

Also, I'm totally going to judge rural deputy sheriffs for having backward views on women. Turning it off in disgust.

And yeah, women be grabbin' the photo albums. It's The Simpsons Movie all over again.

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Monday, 1 November 2010 04:50 (fifteen years ago)

xp, lol, people getting scared to horror

popular music is destroying our youth (CaptainLorax), Monday, 1 November 2010 05:08 (fifteen years ago)

It was okay, not particularly mind blowing. Hopefully there will be enough deviation from the comics that I won't have a sense of having seen this all before.

boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Monday, 1 November 2010 05:52 (fifteen years ago)

Loved it. Though honestly, Sheriff Egg have you watched no zombie movies? Sheesh. DONT GO INTO THE CITY. (Sherriff was Egg in 'This Life' in the longago...hence Sheriff Egg)

Had long nerd discussion with Mr Veg over car vs horse in zombieworld...I was pro horse, well until I remembered the whole lunch on legs thing, doh.

Greg Nicotero special effects ftw.

That little girl headshot in the opening scene was Assault on Precinct 13-level cold-bloodedness.
I approve.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 1 November 2010 06:38 (fifteen years ago)

I assume that the horse was previously able to run away from danger?

Anyway, this show rules.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 1 November 2010 06:47 (fifteen years ago)

haven't read the comics. the story was pretty meat and potatoes, but i thought this was executed wonderfully. very atmospheric. definitely was way more into this than anything zombie-related i've seen in years. altogether a very solid pilot.

few issues: 1. yeah, that song at the end. 2. guy at the farmhouse who for some reason decided to write GOD FORGIVE US on the wall with blood of the wife he just shot?

circa1916, Monday, 1 November 2010 06:47 (fifteen years ago)

Driving home from my friend's house through empty streets was fun.

macaroni rascal (polyphonic), Monday, 1 November 2010 06:48 (fifteen years ago)

How long was Rick in a coma? Wouldn't it take a while for zombies to overtake the world, since they are not a particularly fast moving bunch? Maybe this is answered in the comic, but I was just curious.

romoing my damn eyes (Nicole), Monday, 1 November 2010 12:18 (fifteen years ago)

maybe europe is fine

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 1 November 2010 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

liked it, but still worried it's going to fellow the comic's descent into melodrama

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Monday, 1 November 2010 14:05 (fifteen years ago)

I think they're managing to get by

Rick Grimes has been a main character on The Walking Dead since the very beginning and while that makes Andrew Lincoln one of the top-billed cast members on the show, as of the show's sixth season Lincoln has only made around $92,000 per episode. With each episode taking around eight days to film, Lincoln's total season income would come to just under $1.5 million. However, recent reports have indicated that Lincoln may have received a raise for seasons seven and eight, bringing him to around $618,000 per episode and up to par with other cable series stars.

***Spoilers for those watching Fear the Walking Dead (anybody?)***

you would think everyone in it would be so tired of doing it.

That'd be Frank Dillane.

Vernon Locke, Thursday, 10 May 2018 23:44 (eight years ago)

five months pass...

I was about to watch the last episode from last season and then pick up with the new season. From reading reviews though, this seems like a bad idea and I should just really let it go.

Yerac, Monday, 5 November 2018 13:05 (seven years ago)

I stopped watching years ago but from what hear it really does seem like this show is just a bunch of delaying until they can dramatically kill off a character from season one or two.

President Keyes, Monday, 5 November 2018 19:12 (seven years ago)

two weeks pass...

So I still watch this out of stubborn habit and it was kind of crazy how while watching last night my stereo came on by itself and started playing my favorite Jesus and Mary Chain song at full blast.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 20 November 2018 04:58 (seven years ago)

The Hardest Walk? I am going to pick it up once I have exhausted every other show.

two years pass...

I don't think I've watched much of this since around season 2, but apparently it's begun its final season? Weirdly curious about how a presumably endless narrative ends. I wonder if they'll just pull a "The Birds" and have all the zombies just die (again) and end on a "what now?" note.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 23 August 2021 13:12 (four years ago)

So this shows been running for what 15 years at least?

Bach on harmonica! (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 23 August 2021 15:11 (four years ago)

Never watched it but I'm going to guess that it finishes similar to the big 'lol' moment at the end of The Mist, and the main character looks at the camera breaking the fourth wall with an 'oops, waddya gonna do' shrug.

Diggin Holes (Ste), Monday, 23 August 2021 15:17 (four years ago)

Final LONG TWD collection #32 synopsis here. Jumped off with Negan, so only see TWD commercials, but since they've done the Whisperers and I saw Princess has shown up, assume it'll follow the trades in broad strokes.

the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Monday, 23 August 2021 15:27 (four years ago)

four years pass...

i think nothing after season 4 made it to English non-pay tv, and i remember enjoying the episodes i did see so i bought a box of the first 7 seasons (works out at 50p a disk).

it goes pretty hard. the killing of otis, Sophia in the barn, and they've just shot dale... (nearly at end of season 2)

the actual dvd quality is quite low though - either they are trying to cram too much onto a disk (5 episodes in some cases) or the cameras / film they choose introduced a grain that's hard to compress. might upgrade to br for the remaining 4 series, if I'm still enjoying it in 82 episodes time...

koogs, Saturday, 30 August 2025 20:19 (nine months ago)

would you choose a hyundai at the end of the world? it is listed as a 4wd suv i guess, but just looks like a family car.

gerber tools also in a lot of the end credits, for all your zombie-killing machete needs

koogs, Monday, 1 September 2025 13:36 (nine months ago)

onto season 5 and it's getting a bit bitty with everyone getting split up like they are.

and, calamity, one of the disks looks like it's had something acidic sprayed over it and refuses to play, so i've ordered another off ebay (£3, lol) and will spend the weekend watching something else.

koogs, Friday, 12 September 2025 18:41 (nine months ago)

three weeks pass...

this just got nasty at the end of season 6 and season 7 seems to be continuing that. i hope it's over soon.
