AMC zombie series from Frank 'Majestic' Darabont - The Walking Dead

55 issues? I assumed it was a limited run kind of thing. Is it still going? Would it provide enough material for several seasons worth of stories? I don't really want to wikipedia it in case of spoilers.

I really meant to ask, "does it end?" as in "is this series going to be 5 or so seasons of awesome shit all heading towards a conclusion or is it just going to dither on and on?"

The comic's up to 76 or so issues now, and is intended to be open-ended.

walking dead comics r good, tv show might be okay if made well. one of the great things about the comic was the level of ongoing tension, even if the immediate conflict did not involve da scary zombies. it is a dark future.

one of the great things about the book is that it's continuously in motion. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that no one is safe; major characters die regularly. Stories don't settle into any one setting for too very long.

and yeah, there's enough material for five seasons, easy. Kirkman more or less wrote them in "seasons" anyway; his stuff is very storyboardy.

still, very curious to see how closely this hews to the comic. Anybody know what the word is on Kirkman's involvement/faithfulness to the comic storyline?

didn't find the comic particularly amazing, just seemed very standard zombie storyline. artwork was average, i thought. later eps were improved though.

have no idea what the tv series will be like, but i don't recall any other zombie tv/series other than the big brother feature (which i liked), so this might be rather refreshing as opposed to yet another full on zombie flick.

The admittedly small number of issues I read didn't seem to either add anything significant to zombie mythology or have particularly interesting characters.

But I will certainly watch the first couple of eps at least.

zombie apocalypse is a great canvas for right wing/nra/libertarian types to express their i-told-you-so-liberal-faggits wish fullment on and i thought the books veered close to this territory too often for my reading comfort.

This is my fear about the show as well...I know the comic goes on forever, shows like this don't seem to work when they are completely open ended and aren't headed towards any type of conclusion.

Well, what makes the comic (and in turn the show) so risky is that there is no conclusion to head toward. Most of the planet is dead or undead. What resolution could possibly occur? The only thing I can think of is some sort of "the children offer hope for the future" ending, because what else can they do?

Why do people hate the comic but expect this to be good? Should I not even ask?

because i'm pretty sure kirkman has no idea how human relationships work, and everything reads like teenage melodrama. any writer would be an improvement.

I haven't read the comic (but there are pretty convincing criticisms itt) but we bought the iTunes season pass for the show ($10 - cheap!) and I'm excited. The trailer looks pretty creepy.

If it does this at all well, then I will love it. I am fascinated by just how people are supposed to get by and live their lives under extreme circumstances, and the accommodations they have to make in order to have any order at all. What kind of barter springs up? What turns out to be useful? That kind of thing.

First ep was pretty solid IMO, they get the "origin" shit over and done without too much trouble while throwing in a few nice details. Closing song is pretty WTF though.

Yeah sorry to raise expectations! Basically I felt it was v good dramatically, v tense, managed to make the events feel sad/disturbing, and looked great. The zombies behave and look far far better than say 28 Days Later.

Ladies just can't learn to turn off a damn light or not to take sentimental mementos instead of survival supplies, amirite?

I hated the characters/casting on Fear TWD (based on the first two seasons). Did everyone die? Is that why it became better?

There's not many of the original​ cast left now, yes.

This show messed up by making everyone a bunch of dumb mopes seemingly unable to leave their five square miles of land.

you can basically track the demise of the show to that episode when eugene revealed he was lying about the zombie cure. losing all hope and descending into violent neighbourhood squabbles is probably what would really happen (if they didn’t all just neck themselves — honestly who wouldn’t after all they’ve been through) and certainly cheaper to produce, but it’s remarkably boring television.

They spend way too long shooting so many bullets and panning across sweaty faces and not enough time having normal conversations that would clear up a lot of issues.

its so artless now. there is nothing cool to look at. everyone just stands around not saying anything. my fave characters have become pointless. and i figure they'll just keep making it as long as it makes money. you would think everyone in it would be so tired of doing it. unless they are all becoming insanely rich off of it.

I was about to watch the last episode from last season and then pick up with the new season. From reading reviews though, this seems like a bad idea and I should just really let it go.

I stopped watching years ago but from what hear it really does seem like this show is just a bunch of delaying until they can dramatically kill off a character from season one or two.

So I still watch this out of stubborn habit and it was kind of crazy how while watching last night my stereo came on by itself and started playing my favorite Jesus and Mary Chain song at full blast.

The Hardest Walk? I am going to pick it up once I have exhausted every other show.

I don't think I've watched much of this since around season 2, but apparently it's begun its final season? Weirdly curious about how a presumably endless narrative ends. I wonder if they'll just pull a "The Birds" and have all the zombies just die (again) and end on a "what now?" note.

Never watched it but I'm going to guess that it finishes similar to the big 'lol' moment at the end of The Mist, and the main character looks at the camera breaking the fourth wall with an 'oops, waddya gonna do' shrug.

Final LONG TWD collection #32 synopsis here. Jumped off with Negan, so only see TWD commercials, but since they've done the Whisperers and I saw Princess has shown up, assume it'll follow the trades in broad strokes.

i think nothing after season 4 made it to English non-pay tv, and i remember enjoying the episodes i did see so i bought a box of the first 7 seasons (works out at 50p a disk).

it goes pretty hard. the killing of otis, Sophia in the barn, and they've just shot dale... (nearly at end of season 2)

the actual dvd quality is quite low though - either they are trying to cram too much onto a disk (5 episodes in some cases) or the cameras / film they choose introduced a grain that's hard to compress. might upgrade to br for the remaining 4 series, if I'm still enjoying it in 82 episodes time...

onto season 5 and it's getting a bit bitty with everyone getting split up like they are.

and, calamity, one of the disks looks like it's had something acidic sprayed over it and refuses to play, so i've ordered another off ebay (£3, lol) and will spend the weekend watching something else.

this just got nasty at the end of season 6 and season 7 seems to be continuing that. i hope it's over soon.
