Coming soon to FB: "People You May Be Crushing On"
― Cunga, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)
yes -- my photo memories 10% comprise photos taken on the vacations of a couple i know. the couple is my ex (and former best friend of many years) and the girl he dumped me for in a very very horrible style
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
wait not 10% -- that was a typo. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT
did he dump you via text message?
― sarahel, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)
^^ dumb joke. But yeah - this photo memories thing - it makes me feel like a subject of a scientific experiment on small-brained organisms' ability to avoid pain
― sarahel, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
worse!
haha, i just signed in and there were THREE photo memories from that couple
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 13 October 2010 22:24 (fifteen years ago)
I'm not complaining too much, most of the pics it is sending me at the mo are of a hot guy I have a bit of a crush on, who I'm gonna hang with this w/e so that suits me fine lol.

photo memories gives me a steady stream of former crushes
really weird i just told my ex-gf (on and off since high school) this morning that she shows up in my photo stream more than anyone else. something going on here...
― cutty, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:11 (fifteen years ago)

wondering if it works the other way too. like if I visit your profile a bunch of times will my shit start showing up in your news feed? (even if you never visit my profile)
― dayo, Wednesday, 13 October 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)
I actually assumed/wondered if thats why the little lefthand panel in yr profile that shows Friends and has pics of 6 random ones, wasnt random but was 6 thatve recently looked. Who knows tho.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Thursday, 14 October 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)
It's not random but it's people that have the most mutual friends with you, I believe. Same thing when you're on someone else's profile and their "random six" are usually people you also know or have friends in common with.
― Cunga, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:02 (fifteen years ago)
Ah, that makes some sense. I just find it odd that for some weeks, the same ppl wil always crop up, then for no reason, someone else will start to constantly appear who never did before.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)
I don't have the friends sidebar in my facebook
― dayo, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:13 (fifteen years ago)
oh, you mean when you're looking at your own profile?
Yeah on yr own profile.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:15 (fifteen years ago)
xpost
man, "photo memories" totally keeps rubbing former flings in my face
like, quit it, for real - that shit is way distracting
― the tune is space, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:29 (fifteen years ago)
"Photo memories" has never given me anything but pics of my siblings being goofballs.
― The Ten Things I Hate About Commandments (Abbbottt), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:38 (fifteen years ago)
thankfully photo memories is super ignorable
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)
Has anyone else noticed that friend requests pending have accept/not now instead of accept/ignore - and you can't get rid of the rejects now, they're just 'hidden'.
― are you robot? (suzy), Thursday, 14 October 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, and apparently hitting "not now" lets pending people look at your stuff until you make The Big Decision about them.
― Cunga, Thursday, 14 October 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)
But on mine, it's like I'm not allowed to make that decision at all.
― are you robot? (suzy), Thursday, 14 October 2010 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
Not now doesn't let them see private stuff, but they will see anything that's public (this can be more than you think)
― stet, Thursday, 14 October 2010 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
If you go into the requests page you can delete all hidden requests.
― discuss tin savage (onimo), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)
i got my first parental friend request a week or so ago. it's in limbo but so not gonna happen. they haven't mentioned it since.
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 14 October 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)
I'm looking at the sidebar now, and it has shows one person with whom I have 57 mutual friends, and another one with whom I have 3. So this doesn't seem to be true.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 14 October 2010 20:51 (fifteen years ago)
three or four of the six will be people you have mad friends in common, and then two are randoms. That's almost always the case.
― Cunga, Thursday, 14 October 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)
I have alternate facebook accounts that I use to check what can be seen on my main one, just to make sure I'm not leaking
― dayo, Friday, 15 October 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)
I've said this before somewhere but this confuses me - if the stuff is public, anyone can see it anyway, regardless of wether they friendreq you or not, right?
I dont think ive ever made a "public" FB status update. Mine are all locked to "friends only", with a subset filter applied so that certain family memmbers/ppl I dont know are locked out totally and never see anything I say.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Friday, 15 October 2010 00:27 (fifteen years ago)
Also dayo thats a great idea.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Friday, 15 October 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
i wonder if you look at a bunch of other friends' photos that don't contain an ex or a crush if it would put facebook off the scent?
― sarahel, Friday, 15 October 2010 06:41 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sorry but can I just:
God has a way of getting our attention! One of the miners said that he'd never prayed until he was trapped underground for 67 days. The day you hear God's voice, harden not your heart! He stands at the door and knocks. Let Him in so you won't have to knock to get out of a predicament!
REALLY???? God got this guy's fucking attention by STICKING HIM IN A HOLE FOR months??? Of all the smug, self-righteous bullshit I just don't even.
Between this doorknob and the guy who can't stop talking about how awesome Christine O'Donnel is, I'm about to go on another defriending spree.

Kudos to Gr8080 for posting that what Chile calls "33 men trapped in a mineshaft, a national drama", China calls "April."
Except the Chinese don't bother drilling them out.

ILX spoke, Facebook listened
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/social.media/10/20/facebook.ex.photos.mashable/index.html?iref=NS1
Facebook is doing its very best not to make you terribly sad.
You see, it used to constantly show you photos of your ex, which might have reminded you just how great things were before he or she dumped you, but it has stopped that now. Exes no longer show up in the "Photo Memories" box.
Photo Memories appear in the top right corner of some Facebook pages, including the Friends and Photos sections.
They show your friends tagged in photos long-forgotten, but the friends shown are picked using Facebook's algorithm for figuring out whose updates you're most interested in.
― Cunga, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:18 (fifteen years ago)
too bad for some/most ppl that's often their exes
― (♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah also how would FB know its an ex anyway?
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)
Was wondering that myself.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)
i mean, they would know if it's someone you had been romantically connected with on FB, but if the relationship was pre-FB or you weren't "official" on FB - i can't see how that'd work.
― sarahel, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 21:08 (fifteen years ago)
Haha, now that would be just fuckin' sick if Facebook keeps tabs on whom you've changed your relationship status with and posting pictures of them on your "Memories" wall.
Well played, Facebook. Well played.
― http://tinyurl.com/whitepony (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 21:10 (fifteen years ago)
I'm telling you, it knows.
― krakow, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)
I read another article that did specify they'd hide people who you previously had set to In A Relationship With on fb so yeah, does nothing for romances over 4-5 years old..
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:21 (fifteen years ago)
You should be able to retrospectively add relationships in a similar way to how you add previous employers and school/college history.
― krakow, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)
^^ or the way the Mormons baptize dead people?
― sarahel, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:28 (fifteen years ago)
"Can I say you were my girlfriend on Facebook?"
― Cunga, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
They really should develop this option.
― krakow, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)
i'll show you a social graph
― bike chain dust? (lukas), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 22:57 (fifteen years ago)
