what's the diff between livejournal and tumblr anyway

i got totally pumped a minute ago because i saw that my page views shot up from 41 to 211 yesterday. but then i realized that 175 of those visits were referrals from the http://www.progressiveears.com/ messageboard, from a post about the emerson lake and palmer gif. but hey, i'll take what i can get i guess...the sad part is now i feel the temptation to make more progressive rock gifs just to cater to that lil' community

where do you see the pageviews?

I know what you mean about catering to communities. I put up one of Paula Deen recently that got a bunch of likes. If I wanted to please reality tv fans, I know how to do it, I think.

I'm tracking traffic via google analytics, you can just throw a line of code in there without anyone seeing it and it tells you all sorts of neat stuff. Several Russian and Brazilian progressive rock fans visited today!

you sign up for an account there (just using your google username/pw), and somewhere in there they'll give you a few lines of html code. In tumblr, you edit your HTML (Customize>Theme>Custom HTML) and copy and paste the code in there, I think just before the </HEAD> tag

oooh, don't follow Tumblr's instructions there at the end (step 9) where they suggest just putting the code in the description field. I tried that for a few days, and google analytics was like "hay i don't get it". I switched the code over to the HTML, and it immediately started working and google analytics was like "hay here we go now"
