ACs only cost like $100 people man up

lol you live in a small apartment
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:57 (eighteen years ago)
I'm gonna buy one of those portable ones so I don't have to permanently block a window and can move between two rooms. Prices have come down on those.
― dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
my apt is about twice the size of yours
― bell_labs, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
I had to sleep pretty much all day yesterday in Oxford because it got up above 20 °C. I go to NYC and Providence for work from August 1-14. I'm going to die, aren't I?
― caek, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
don't talk to me wastegash
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)
NY is usually worse in the early summer.
But there are any number of reasons that you may die.
― dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:01 (eighteen years ago)
What's this I hear about manhole fires
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:01 (eighteen years ago)
xp, yes, i might get caught in the crossfire of a JW beef
― caek, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:02 (eighteen years ago)
lol
― max, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:03 (eighteen years ago)
it all depends.. i remember july last summer being pretty awful, too.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
so seriously -- the window/wall unit question... can anyone help? will i set my house on fire or something if i get the window unit and put it in the wall space? there are bars on my windows so i can't just put one in the window.
aren't there laws? Your landlord should be able to replace the bars with the kind that fit an AC.
I'm sure there's some good reason why people don't just put AC units in the middle of apartments. They need to vent.
Korean Fan Death?
― dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:15 (eighteen years ago)
well we have one of those holes under the window specifically for an air conditioner so i doubt she'd be willing to alter the bars... this is the kind of landlady who recently got taken to a courttv show over a security deposit!
i am just thinking, there's no way that everyone with one of those holes under their windows is spending $$$$$$ on their a/c.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:20 (eighteen years ago)
was at a friends house last nite who had a window unit in the wall slot seemed fine
― jhøshea, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:20 (eighteen years ago)
OH when you said wallspace I thought you meant like an internal wall. I thought those Fedders holes under windows were FOR window units?
― dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:21 (eighteen years ago)
who agrees to go on court tv?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:21 (eighteen years ago)
doesn't those wall holes have like things to mate the ac?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)
the guy at p.c. richards said i couldn't put a window unit in the wall slot bc the air intake is different... but the only wall units they had there were like $500. so i wasn't sure if you really can't do it or if he was trying to upsell.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)
You could spend some extra $$ and buy a portable a/c. I was just looking online and 299 seemed the cheapest price.
― brownie, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)
don't buy a portable ac
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, i thought of that, but i don't want to spend that much.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)
all signs are pointing towards you spending that extra 200.
― sexyDancer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:30 (eighteen years ago)
i just went out back and surveyed my neighbors' units... i think several of them have the wall units...
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:37 (eighteen years ago)
i just went out back and surveyed my neighbors' units
XD
― elmo argonaut, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:37 (eighteen years ago)
haha
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:38 (eighteen years ago)
i have a/c at home but i haven't turned it on yet. i rarely use the heat either.
august can be brutal in nyc, though perhaps not as bad as late july, but it depends on the year, really. this summer's supposed to be pretty bad, due to la nina, but the badness may moderate by august.
― gabbneb, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:49 (eighteen years ago)
My AC broke a couple days ago and it's going to take a few days to get it fixed. I'm :( and I'm sure my pets are :(((. It's about 100 out here.
― miryam, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:51 (eighteen years ago)
I'm impressed by gabbneb not turning on the A/C yet – where were you all w/e?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)
in my apt, at the gym, shopping and in madison sq pk eating much bbq. i wear light colors, drink lots of water, and try to stay in the shade, including keeping the blinds closed when the sun's facing the windows. shoulda worn some sunscreen tho.
― gabbneb, Monday, 9 June 2008 18:25 (eighteen years ago)
Dodged tornadoes in Chicago to come back to the OVEN that is NYC (and public transport from La Guardia). The desperation for subway aircon was palpable.
― Pete, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:02 (eighteen years ago)
NYC in the summer is when all the roaches come out to play. The kid living in the studio I'm moving into in GREENPOINT SKINNY JEANS TRACKBIKES VEGAN FREE RANGE TOFU has fucking food everywhere, so I'm expecting a nice little Joe's Apartment situation (the bedroom is connected to the kitchen).
― burt_stanton, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)
And grapes, grapes in the fridge.

grapes in the freezer is the way to go!
― s1ocki, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:05 (eighteen years ago)
ew. luckily i never get roaches, but centipedes tend to like my apartment when there are drastic weather changes. i haven't seen any in a week or so, but i just bought some spray stuff that i'm going to get all the cracks/baseboards/etc. with.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:06 (eighteen years ago)
oh god freezer grapes are ace!
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:07 (eighteen years ago)
the centipedes eat the roaches
― carne asada, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:08 (eighteen years ago)
freezer grapes? you can do that?
― caek, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
Wait. There's no a/c on NYC subway trains??
― Jesse, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:13 (eighteen years ago)
there is on the trains, but not in the stations
― mookieproof, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:15 (eighteen years ago)
Some trains are better than others. When a million chinese and russian dudes are crushing your body for 15 stops into Brooklyn on the N train, the ac does nothing.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)
i think the worst i've ever had was a packed 1 train at rush hour with no a/c in august during one of those high 90s-100s heatwaves 2 summers ago.
― tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
I don't like the frozen grapes. cold in the fridge is good enough for me.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 00:27 (eighteen years ago)
Frozen grapes make my teeth yell at me hardcore.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 00:29 (eighteen years ago)
omg i was just gonna paste this:
i think the smart thing to do in this weather is to obtain white wine and grapes.
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 00:36 (eighteen years ago)
i loooove cold grapes
They seem like a better idea than they turn out to be. They hurt my teeth and the flavor gets muted.
― Jesse, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 01:19 (eighteen years ago)
This is all very interesting. I have some grapes around and may try the fridge at least.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 01:21 (eighteen years ago)
yes mine are in the fridge now. white wine is good!
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 01:25 (eighteen years ago)
oh they definitely go in the fridge, but freezer is news to me.
― caek, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 01:27 (eighteen years ago)
White wine is brilliant.
Oh hey Surmounter, you going to be around when I'm in NYC? There's some sort of get-together being plotted.
