maura tweted something about glover channeling gene wilder when he's hopping around the janitor and I thought that was pretty OTM and awesome

All I heard was "suck."

Animated prank at end credits knocked me out of my chair

I think this has pretty clearly zoomed past even 30 Rock now. I had to pause several times last night to catch my breath.

We’ve heard about a Claymation Christmas episode. Will that be the topper to last season’s paintball episode?

I think just in terms of the whole outlook in the season, the ante has been upped. It’s not just about having huge fantastical episodes, which there are, but in general I think the whole nature of the show and how silly we can get is being pushed more and more. The Apollo 13 episode — where we kind of go to space, so to speak — that’s going to be one of the more ambitious episodes that we’re all sort of hoping will have a similar if not better feel to the paintball episode. And the Halloween episode, which we just finished, is scaled up. It’s definitely a full-on horror-movie episode and really well done.

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 1 October 2010 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

I think I prefer the less out-there episodes. I was disappointed to read that interview with the creator guy where he said they were going to try to make more paintball and chicken fingers type episodes. Chicken fingers was by far my least favorite episode from season 1. I don't think it's possible to ever, ever get good comedy out of mafia spoofs (esp. Goodfellas) again!

Dan I., Friday, 1 October 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

In fact, the fewer genre spoofs of any kind the better

Dan I., Friday, 1 October 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

would rather have stunt genre episodes than stunt guest stars/casting

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 1 October 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

Rob corddry was pretty good! But yeah, not looking forward to all the Betty White we're presumably going to be exposed to this season.

Dan I., Friday, 1 October 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

Did her character get fired or something, and all the students got automatic A's?

Sterling-Kinney (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 1 October 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

She was suspended, I think. I don't think there's any guarantee she's coming back, so I don't think she's going to show up in many episodes.

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Friday, 1 October 2010 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah. She was just stunt casting for the premiere.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 October 2010 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

Drew Carey's hole in the hand just amazed me, like, where does that even come from. Comedy-wise, I mean. I love this show.

I think John Oliver's character is coming back to fill in as the Anthropology prof.

it sucks and you all love something that sucks (reddening), Friday, 1 October 2010 22:53 (fifteen years ago)

also whaaa at drew careys weightloss

Yeah, I don't ever see TPIR, so that was kind of a shock.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 October 2010 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I was actually prompted to google it to be sure

It suddenly occurs to me that the oldwhitemansays gag was/is probably a swing at Shit My Dad Says, in the same way they were ripping on Glee last season...

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 2 October 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)

It most definitely was.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 2 October 2010 01:12 (fifteen years ago)

Drew Carey looks, just, wow. Like, it's not him but it's him...crazy.

Loved the "pop!" his hand made when he swung his hand in to shake Jeff's hand...that hand gag was total
gold

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 2 October 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh could I please say hand a few more times, jeez

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 2 October 2010 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

thought this was a weaker episode but the chloroform gags were hilarious

hey guys I think maybe in next week's episode jeff is going to think that he's too cool for the group and then at the end he's going to realize that even though they aren't cool, they care for each other and that's what's important

congratulations (n/a), Saturday, 2 October 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

I know it's dumb to complain about the plot in a show like this but I'd rather they abandon the concept of plot entirely and just have 26 minutes of unconnected jokes than see them use that story again

congratulations (n/a), Saturday, 2 October 2010 03:33 (fifteen years ago)

1st ep this season was great but this one was just awful imo

bewildered to come here and find ppl loving it like there's no difference

r|t|c, Saturday, 2 October 2010 07:48 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, this week's 30 rock was better. although this was plenty entertaining... I don't watch anything else.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 2 October 2010 07:55 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i liked this week's 30 rock more (unlike last week)

troy's panic dance above absolutely the best bit

sock lobster (blueski), Saturday, 2 October 2010 12:21 (fifteen years ago)

idk jokes about germans, "slooow news week," chloroform, troy's dance... how was this not a great ep?

kind of 30 rocked out tbh

this show is unfuckwithable at the moment

luis guzman baking a pie, Sunday, 3 October 2010 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

@danharmon okay, guys! Not asking you to do anything for me, because you're already fans, I'm just informing: if ratings drop tonight, I kill myself!

@danharmon It's not an appeal, it's just information. I have a gun in my mouth. If I get a 2, I put it in a drawer. 1.9, on the desk. 1.8, BANG.

I like that he embraces the interactive possibilities of the Web.

last two episodes hot fire. can't wait for #3

committee for the removal of eccentric, evil mods (C.R.E.E.M.) (San Te), Thursday, 7 October 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

Just got the season 1 DVD; the outtakes are as funny as the funniest moments of the episodes...funnier, in some cases.

Sterling-Kinney (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 7 October 2010 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

tonight's episode was so bad I walked out (of my own living room)

get off my lawn (rockapads), Friday, 8 October 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

oh no :(

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 8 October 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)

It wasn't very good, but it was hardly that bad. Troy was good, I liked the Betty White Inception coda, and Oliver's delivery of the 'play along' line was excellent.

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Friday, 8 October 2010 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

agreed, also the little segment of Oliver force pushing Chang away from the food line, then immediately sliding back to his conversation with Jeff was great

"You gain levels, and at a certain point you actually CAN eat a ghost."

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Friday, 8 October 2010 05:22 (fifteen years ago)

I liked the episode just fine.

funky house skeptic (polyphonic), Friday, 8 October 2010 06:01 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I thought it was just as funny as the other two this season.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 8 October 2010 06:11 (fifteen years ago)

Okay Patton Oswalt as the doctor was funny. "These paps aren't going to smear themselves!" There wasn't anything wrong with this ep at all. Or the season so far.

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 8 October 2010 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

Patton made the same cameo in S1 iirc.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 8 October 2010 06:24 (fifteen years ago)

apparently abed had an episode-long plotline involving a pregnant woman that went on in the background of a lot of different scenes -- my dad noticed something was going on mid-episode, but we didn't catch everything.

it sucks and you all love something that sucks (reddening), Friday, 8 October 2010 06:25 (fifteen years ago)

in the first scene, there's the pregnant woman in the background. In the cafeteria, she goes into labor. Later, she's giving birth in the back of a van.

kate78, Friday, 8 October 2010 10:58 (fifteen years ago)

yes because while everyone obsesses about death life goes on etc etc etc
