love ray's face as he dreams about abe lincoln and the computer eating dog.

tylerw, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:44 (fifteen years ago)

Decent strip, see you guys in October.

If you want me to "get there," pay attention to my angina (WmC), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

what he said

Muscus ex Craneo Humano (forksclovetofu), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

Beef, apparently proving that keeping it real is the best plan.

Sauvignon Blanc Mange (B.L.A.M.), Friday, 1 October 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

2 weeks with no updates -- kinda feels like this really could be the end of the road -- although maybe I'm just saying that because "EVERYBODY OUT! HIGH SCHOOL IS OVER!" would make a fitting epitaph for the comic

rmde and dangerous (bernard snowy), Friday, 15 October 2010 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

Argh, I've just remembered the dream I was having last night in which Achewood had to finish because Chris Onstad ran out of money! The very last page just said something like "Sorry, that's it!"

Is the premium section still active? I guess I can't resent him for wanting it to be a money-making venture, but it's a shame that the downsizing of the free strip coincided with a low point in terms of quality.

Mark C, Friday, 15 October 2010 12:15 (fifteen years ago)

No updates anywhere, recently. I would guess he is working on something, and has to deal with the book publishing aspects, but this is still utterly ridiculous considering the clock's just sitting there ticking for everyone who's paid for the premium update subscriptions.

Which apparently is me, on auto-billing. $3 a month for nothing, Onstad!

mh, Friday, 15 October 2010 13:55 (fifteen years ago)

Sometimes I think he's just doing behavioral experiments on that sad gang of Assetbar commenters. Definitely a bunch of Stockholm Syndrome going on there.

Unfrozen Caveman Board-Lawyer (WmC), Friday, 15 October 2010 13:59 (fifteen years ago)

i wish he would just kill it

call all destroyer, Friday, 15 October 2010 14:24 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not sure if it's a combination of Stockholm Syndrome and the knowledge that every strip brings this fucking story arc closer to a long-overdue end, but today's strip wasn't bad...

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Monday, 18 October 2010 23:37 (fifteen years ago)

our national nightmare is over

OH AND ITS WAVVES (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 1 November 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

what happened?

Nhex, Monday, 1 November 2010 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, nothing happened. Just, only one comic in October, no premium content as far as I can tell, trying to raise funds to keep the web-host alive -- everything points to The End.

Clay, Monday, 1 November 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

achewood's been put on pause before, i wouldn't read too much into it. i'd be pissed off if i was a subscriber, tho. he said something a couple of weeks ago about feeling sick, iirc?

ed chilliband (max arrrrrgh), Monday, 1 November 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)

thumbs up for seasonal sadness

Nhex, Saturday, 6 November 2010 00:49 (fifteen years ago)

So Onstad basically is trying to tell us that he's the guy who sucks, plus he got depression

Dan I., Saturday, 6 November 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

always funny (helpful text, trying to click the link on the pdf printout, the idea of a link on a pdf printout), but man the miserablism is a stone drag. dude needs to cut that shit pronto.

what strip have you guys been reading for the last seven years?

Ain't Gonna Play "Fist City" (sic), Saturday, 6 November 2010 06:18 (fifteen years ago)

haha! i'm cool with RB being the ultimate sad sack but this goofy molester van stuff was not really my thing

Nhex, Saturday, 6 November 2010 06:20 (fifteen years ago)

best strips are less about crushing despair, more about hilarious word arrangement

naked human hands and a foam rubber head (contenderizer), Saturday, 6 November 2010 08:27 (fifteen years ago)

^^ I think this may still be my favorite strip:

two weeks pass...

great strip up this week

human fleshy kids (stevie), Saturday, 20 November 2010 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

Not one of my favorites, but chacun à son goût etc etc

Maybe spending six months inside Nice Pete's head has just got him a little freaked out. Whenever it comes, the explanation of What the Fuck Happened to Me in Aught-Ten should be entertaining.

Unfrozen Caveman Board-Lawyer (WmC), Saturday, 20 November 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

have no issue with him dropping the previous storyline entirely.

old LOKO heads (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 20 November 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, dude should just reread his archives for a lil' bit or something — get back to basics imo — maybe draw in color 4 a little bit 2 get away from ~depressing vibes~

undervalued aerosmith memorabilia I have appraised (bernard snowy), Saturday, 20 November 2010 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

so we are just to assume that ray sorted everthing out with the film deal and that was the last strip of the arc, then?

ed chilliband (max arrrrrgh), Saturday, 20 November 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

dunno. I kind of want to see him at least ATTEMPT to tie it all together. Even if its a miserable flop at the end.

but, I'm glad he's at least putting them out again. Will love this strip for evah.

It needs more Molly, though. Never enough of her.

You mean awesome last panel

Also, the reappearance of the dude from Lyle's past in the fish contest panels makes me happy

call all destroyer, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

how much to read into the reference to a "brain problem" in the meta tag?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 7 January 2011 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

i love this guy as much as anyone and interviewed him years ago and buy his print collections whenever they come out but it's pretty obvious he does not want to draw this strip anymore and i kinda wish he'd stop instead of just getting increasingly cranky and half-assed about it.

difficult listening hour, Friday, 7 January 2011 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know if he knows what else to do, and there is still a fanbase

It's pretty tricky

mh, Friday, 7 January 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

no, yeah, he's often made bitter remarks about how if he stopped "nerds in honda goldwings" would crucify him. i appreciate the difficulty.

pretty sure what he wants to do is write, which is why the strips these days are so often just huge blocks of illuminated text. i mean, i don't know where his money comes from or how important it is to his family that he keep writing the strip, but if it's not absolutely necessary i kinda think he should stop and write his novel or whatever it is he wants to do. (also he's been dropping hints about adult swim for years, but that's obv out of his control.)
