Just me or is ILX pretty damn cranky lately?

FWIW I'm pretty cranky lately and it has undoubtedly shown in my posts independent of what anyone has or hasn't done to provoke it. And yes, that applies to my interactions w/you, kate, on the clusterfuck thread. A delicious combination of going off SSRIs, job dissatisfaction, Ohio weather woes and seeing shit from my mom on Facebook like "I'm flying this flag to oppose the Muslim worship center at Ground Zero.
I am the 482,601st person to fly the flag in opposition of Muslim mosque at Ground Zero. I hope 5 million will join me!" kinda puts me on edge.

Muslim mosque isn't 'at' at Ground Zero, but whatevs.

Mark G, Monday, 20 September 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)

yes, we all already know who doesn't like who, there's no particular reason to have yet another "here are all the ways in which I despise poster [x]" party

juggalo iglesias (HI DERE), Monday, 20 September 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

he's not a troll!! seriously, if a dude's got a flippant register he's probably just a bit bored

well, he's a troll but i for one approve. better to be a troll and at least know it imo.

illiterate mods are killing ilx (darraghmac), Monday, 20 September 2010 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

OK, fair's fair. I have been pretty cranky lately, and I am definitely in need of a holiday.

I am certainly aware that I often have quite different opinions - and strong opinions - to the seeming majority of ILX, and this often puts me on the defensive. I think this often *reads* as provoking clusterfucks or something like it, but I don't think having a differing opinion or defending that opinion is *necessarily* wrong or bad or something to be avoided for the sake of artificial consensus on a messageboard. Which is what it feels like nakhchivan is implying.

Anyway, I guess that's that. If it's me that's particularly cranky I should go do something more enjoyable with the rest of the afternoon. If I can find something.

really don't see the point of this post. i dunno if that's unduly cranky or snarky.

Thanks, kkgvz -- and I don't want it to seem like I'm trolling for huggz or something, just that I seem to have only two gears lately: "Angry" and "frustrated." It sucks.

LOL at "leave Ohio." I bought a house, man, I'm gonna die here.

Shock and Awe High School (Phil D.), Monday, 20 September 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

actually, that was way glib of me. i spent some time in lakewood/cleveland and cincinnati, and found good ppl there, etc.

that is not what i was implying, i like a lot of yr lengthier posts without necessarily agreeing with them, and i've said that before today

threads will get disputatious but it helps if they don't become unduly personalized/psychologized

i think it's like how our minds are sometimes filled with self-antagonistic arrows. prob most of us have occasional bouts of self-loathing. letting that contribute out of hand to our self-definition doesn't make sense. so much more so ppl's msg board output.

cbt ppl say the same thing, like nak, more eloquently.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 20 September 2010 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

Though, to be completely honest, I can never entirely shake the fear that some or indeed most people are pretty much always given the benefit of the doubt, but I very seldom get extended that same benefit, that there is always someone who has decided that I am "just a cranky person" and that the most negative or unpleasant or hateful explanation of my behaviour is the right one, and I could never just be being straightforward or playful or whatever.

But that *is* my latent paranoia, even if it does occasionally get backed up in fact.

(i.e. there is never ever a cuddlestein mountain for me to balance out the pile-ons)

Karen D. Tregaskin, Monday, 20 September 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

there is always someone who has decided that I am "just a cranky person"

nah, bro

dude (del), Monday, 20 September 2010 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

xp see, that is what drives me crazy about you: you act like it's you vs. ilx-the-entity (which if that was true i'd wonder why you would bother posting here at all), yet any clusterfuck/thread you're involved in i ALWAYS see PLENTY of support for you!!!! even in the worst of it, ppl are backpedaling and apologising for upsetting you, or for posting things that might be misinterpreted.

just1n3, Monday, 20 September 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

Things look very different when you are on the receiving end, rather than on the watching end. I think it's human nature to feel criticism more harshly than praise.

I don't think I've seen an apology or anything outside of the girl thread, nor have I actually *expected* one, for what it's worth, so I think that assessment is actually unfair and a little harsh? But whatever. This pair of posts will just leave you feeling a little more driven crazy and me feeling more generally criticised/disliked.

Karen D. Tregaskin, Monday, 20 September 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

srsly i came here to say that my first reply to kate itt was needlessly unpleasant and indeed unacceptable

justine in general is right tho

oh ok karen is k@te i was wondering

rawkan the chief (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 20 September 2010 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, justine OTM

master of retardment (ENBB), Monday, 20 September 2010 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

That's the thing, about feelings and fears, they are not about me saying "this is true" or "this is false", they are *feelings*. They are sometimes irrational, but that doesn't stop them from existing.

Kate: I sometimes *feel* like this. It might be paranoid, but that's how I *feel*.
Justine: You're wrong. You have *no right* to your feelings. (and you don't really belong here if you do actually feel that way.)

That's not "OTM" - that's someone telling me flat out "your feelings are INVALID p.s. I have no idea why you feel so invalidated all the time."

Karen D. Tregaskin, Monday, 20 September 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

there you go again, big surprise.

oh ok karen is k@te i was wondering

Damn I was starting to have smh for some of your post itt and others way before I even realized it was you. but when I did I was like oh that’s just K@te and then all the hate just left me.

Aerosol, Monday, 20 September 2010 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

kate you know I'm trying to help but what the fuck. you cannot help yourself if you say these ridiculous things.

cambyrdsclosetvacuumsounds4fun (acoleuthic), Monday, 20 September 2010 19:10 (fifteen years ago)

Kate she never flat out said you were wrong. She was pointing out that there was a lot of support for you whenever these incidents happen which there is. For however many "enemies" you have or perceive to have here you also have tons of people behind you. I would think it would help knowing that and reminding yourself of it whenever you start to feel persecuted, no?

master of retardment (ENBB), Monday, 20 September 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

K@te, take a deep breath and go read justin3's post very carefully, as I just did. In it I could not detect any statement about your feelings that called you out as wrong to have them or invalideated them.

AFAICS, she:

1) made a statement about her feelings (that an aspect of you drives her crazy),
2) made a statement about your actions ("you act as if" a thing were true),
3) made a statement about what she saw to be true (those threads contain some support as well as harshness)
4) and stopped there.

Aimless, Monday, 20 September 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, I didn't see anything up with justin3's post either

I'm just Grinderman, y'all never mind me (markers), Monday, 20 September 2010 19:25 (fifteen years ago)

See I honestly can't think of many (or any, really) other posters people go to that extent to break things down for. Fuck the haters and be thankful you have so many people that do support you. I realize that is easier said than done but it can't hurt to try!

master of retardment (ENBB), Monday, 20 September 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

See I honestly can't think of many (or any, really) other posters people go to that extent to break things down for.

this was also another thing i was going to add.
