Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 1 September 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a crapload of basil around yesterday, so I made pesto -- kind of. Macadamias instead of pine nuts, and I used the food processor; so sue me. (I'm normally a pesto rockist.) It's very, very, very, very green. And I've put some on pasta for the girlfriend just now, and it's really pretty good. And very, very, very, very green.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i just put some biscuits in

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i shouldn't be eating lunch, but i'm weak

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i love hearing about Tep's culinary exploits.
I want him to eat *more*

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I do not! I made fruit tarts which'll be dessert tonight; I made pasta for the girlfriend (well, I had a bite to see how the pesto was). I've had a piece of apple and cheese, a Suzy Q, and leftover chicken from last night!

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i said i was envious motherfucker!

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

But I haven't eaten enough for you to be envious! (I do have complete meals more often than I ought to, but that will stop now that classes are starting and I'll be on campus all day two days of the week [no ILE Tep on days what start with T]. I need to cook for other people more.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ha trust me pal, you've eaten enough for me to be envious. (this says more about me than you.)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

affinois/baguette, and some canary melon

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm baking some chicken breasts right now. I *never* cook. Damn diet.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Feeling too lazy to actually cook, so am eating a ham & turkey sandwich w/dijon and harvarti on Brownberry Hawaiian bread (never had this bread before--pretty good).
The bananas I bought are already getting black spots on them so I should probably go eat one of them.
Then it shall be a lil bag of Whoppers malted milk balls for a mini-dessert. Haven't had them for years and years but Luna reminded me of their existence.

oops (Oops), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

my grandad wouldn't eat bananas until there was not a spot of yellow left on the outside

mark s (mark s), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a pastrami sandwich with salad cream earlier. And a Rolo pudding.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 1 September 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha my girlfriend brought me Chinese takeaway. Chicken and cashew nuts. Hmm, they may have scrimped a little on the chicken, but still...

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 1 September 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I had chicken stuffed with camambert. then later I got the munchies and had the rest of camambert on toast.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 1 September 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Monday, 1 September 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Okra, in quantity. Carp too.

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Monday, 1 September 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Dinner is an Italian sheep's milk cheese and a dry chorizo.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 1 September 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Cooked nothing today.

Started the day with a little biscuit left over from yesterday morning and some water.

Spent most of the day at the hospital, so I had a hospital-grade hamburger, fries, more water, and a candy bar from the vending machine.

Went for a couple of hours to a cousin's 20th birthday party, but took along some grape-flavored Hawaiian shaved ice with me because I wasn't feeling up to eating anything heavy, e.g. the barbecue they were going to fix.

Am currently debating whether or not to fix anything to eat now; wish I had some popcorn, though.

Am looking forward to eating leftover homemade lasagna for dinner tomorrow, though. Yay!

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 1 September 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't eaten for about 5 days (experimenting on myself as part of my process of going on the caloric restriction diet full time but whatever) but I drank about 6 L. of thick green tea and 1 L. of red wine. I shouldn't post with this state of mind, like, I have the attention span of a regular Fox viewer or somethin'.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

sebastien, you should write a book. and then read it. again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Lately I've had to economise, and this means back to cooking lots of my own meals that'll carry over for lunch as well.

This week's was a flan/quiche thing, filled with onion, roast capsicum, mushroom and brocoli. Makes 4 large slices, plenty for lunch and dinner, with some rice.

I just ate a sausage roll with my last bit of the flan. I feel a wee bit ill now.

I can't decide what to make for dinner, but I'm thinking some kind of stew or stroganoff or something I can make with the steak and veg I have.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

flan thing??

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

thinking abt the pate.
i am a pate fiend.

*slinks to fridge stealthily*
*cracks door*
*reaches in and deftly removes pate*
*retreats smoothly, with crackers*

gggrrrgggggllleeeee

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Flan=quiche. Pastry shell, eggs&cream fillinf with veg and cheese on top, baked... is that not a flan? I call it a quiche... I dunno... my brain hurts :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Flan=mexican creme brulee at least in the US

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, flan is a mexican desert, custard like.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Well a quiche is custard as well, just not sweet :) I have seen flan used in that context as well as dessert... but then I am very tired today so excuse me if I'm blathering... ughr can I go home now?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Here in California the deciding factor is the presence of cheese and sugar, A quiche is savory, and involves egg and cheese as the base.

A flan is a custard-like sweet dessert in California at least.

But you can call it whatever you want!

And you should find a comfy bed to retire to ;-)

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh I wish, its only 2.45pm and I'm at work! *cries*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

For breakfast i had a BLT, coffee, fries, and a chocolate shake.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And that kind of tided me over for the rest of the day.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I think flan is flan all over.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm, i'm getting a visual on that that is rather strange....

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Very sick today, but have made a bruiseberry pie anyway: standard fruit pie, four parts blueberry to one part blackberry. I'm eating a piece of it now, and didn't let it cool down enough to actually be pie so much as "bowl of hot fruit + crust."

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, and you gotta splash a little port in with the fruit, just a little. No lemon juice, port. (Usually I would use more blackberries but I wanted a mostly blueberry pie today.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm kinda jealous of Tep. But you're old, right? Plenty time, plenty time...

Our kitchen is too messy to cook right now. Bah.

David. (Cozen), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

SPAGHETTI

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm not quite old enough to mind being called old :) But yeah, I've been cooking for a long time, and have cooked most of the meals I've eaten in the last .. what, thirteen years now, I guess. (My mother worked many hours when I was in high school, so I did the cooking, which meant "microwaved marshmallows" wasn't gonna cut it anymore.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 12 September 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

How old are you then Tep? If you don't mind me asking.

David. (Cozen), Saturday, 13 September 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been assuming he's a "young" 79.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 13 September 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

28!

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 13 September 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, old.

David. (Cozen), Saturday, 13 September 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I like to think of it as "too old for clowns, too young for golddiggers."

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 13 September 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i love how this has turned into a vegetarian hate thread.

fuck vegetarians.

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I just found a nice piece of cheese in the office fridge. I'm saving it for the drive home.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

no no, vegetarians are perfectly okay. vegetarians who force others to be vegetarians can eat my meaty manhood.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck vegetarians.

Well, I guess I'd rather fuck [a] vegetarian(s).

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

holy shit lauren (and jbr too)!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i am helping a friend move tonight and i will be paid with indian food and beer at a local curryhouse.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not quite dinner time yet, but dinner will be a spinach, arugula, and radicchio salad with chunks of apple, salmon, and feta cheese. Topping is some olive oil and balsamic.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to meet one of these vegetarians who forces people to only eat vegetables. I picture them knocking paper plates out of peoples' hands at BBQs.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(just before oops offers them his cock as punishment)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

for dinner, i'm having leftover green curry that i made last night. lots of baby bok choy, soybean sprouts, orange peppers, and tofu. volcanically spicy. i'm forcing no one to eat it.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i have no time to make dinner so I'm eating a apple cinnamon cereal bar and some Stilton cheese. (was gonna have it with crackers but some assbunny did the ole 'leave two crackers in the box so I don't have to throw it away' trick)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I made an enormo bowl of noodle soup last night with chicken breast, dried Chinese mushrooms, spring onions, shredded Savoy cabbage, garlic and ginger. It was very simple and very satisfying. Ahh. And a can of milky bubble pearl tea to follow.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
I am now partially through cooking the first ever proper homemade soup I have ever made, thanks to receiving a huge amount of tomatoes from a friend's garden yesterday, combined with my insatiable love for tomato soup. I am following this recipe, suggested by Stripey:

http://www.tenspeed.com/inside/page.php3?ftr=274

It already smells absolutely delicious, and I will have some fresh bread and a good red wine with it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am now partially through cooking the first ever proper homemade soup I have ever made, thanks to receiving a huge amount of tomatoes from a friend's garden yesterday, combined with my insatiable love for tomato soup.

whooo! soup is one of my favorite things to make. now you've got me craving the tomato soup with italian chicken sausage i whipped up a few months ago.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

italian chicken sausage

Argh, I want that, it sounds good. Bring some with you next time you're out.

The soup is coming together tremendously well, I am about to take it off the heat and add the basil (like the tomatoes, fresh from said garden).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

make gazpacho! i just ate a can of black beans.

caitlin hell (caitxa), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i ate a bratwurst earlier, and will probably eat one later!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 29 July 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just a had a cup of miso soup and a small portion of chilli con carne with brown rice. I'll be making an asparagus and chorizo risotto tonight.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 29 July 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

BR: Kashi Go Lean cereal (ehh...) for breakfast
LU: Two plums, my mom's home-made pumpernickel bread, moxie!
DI: Hummel Und Erde (sweet potatoes mashed with fresh applesauce, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice), cherry tomatoes, mesclun, sunflower seeds.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Asparagus and chorizo risotto sounds heavenly. How do you ensure you don't have those horrible gristly bits that puts me off most chorizos?

I am eating a bagel wot I made myself for desk lunch. It has honey roast turkey, sun blushed tomatoes, red jalapenos and cream cheese in it.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I am making [read eating as i go] ryvita crackers with cheese & red onion. mmm yummy, but all gone. *cries*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

mark, if you cook chorizo a lot less than you would think (ie only a few golden/black bits) then it's way more tender. Assuming you're using the softer cooking chorizo that is. If yr using the hard stuff then you'll always get the hard bits even in the best.

try and get to Brindisa for their own brand, it's blooming marvellous.

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

kashi go lean tastes like styrofoam.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

a slice of two boots "big maybelle" and a black & white cookie.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to have a few slices of heavy-duty organic 5-grain bread with olive tapenade and tomato slices for dinner, and a lot of blueberries because they're about to go bad and i feel guilty if i waste them.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight will be lambchops with a side of steamed green beans, some of my special steak sauce, and some zinfandel. I may have to invite someone over - or maybe not and just enjoy 2 chops myself!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

last week i had cinnamon-raisin buttermilk pancakes with blueberries. YUM.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i love pancakes, but i haven't had any in ages. i was rarely allowed them as a kid because of all the sugar in the syrup and the relative lack of nutritional value, and i think i still have a mental block.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot stop eating these new twisty cheez-its. THEY ARE SO GOOD THEY SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

seven years pass...

srsly amazing Chinese BBQ sauce (making this ahead of time for some lamb meatballs) (i used a nice mango honey from whole foods and it really makes a difference):

1 cup dry sherry
1 cup hoisin sauce
1 cup ketchup
4 tbsp. minced peeled fresh ginger
4 tbsp. rice vinegar
2 tbsp. honey
2 tsp. sriracha or hot chili sauce
1/2 tsp. five-spice powder
2 garlic cloves, minced

Preparation:
Combine all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat; bring to a simmer. Cook mixture 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Sgt. Dee Dee The Brass Cupcake McCall (get bent), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 00:17 (fourteen years ago)

also, organic ketchup = no HFCS

Sgt. Dee Dee The Brass Cupcake McCall (get bent), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 00:21 (fourteen years ago)
