Thanks! I had no idea who Cherie Currie or Steve Rubell were, I just thought it's just MJ and Tyler with some random people. And Hall & Oates is just a name to me, I didn't know what they look like. I guess I should've recognized Madonna, but she looks kinda unfamiliar in that pic.

Is the person on the left Mel Gibson?

That's Lou Reed, and sitting next to him it Bob Dylan. Seated in front of them is Tom Petty, and...

The guy on the right looks like the current King of Sweden when he was younger.

...the guy standing is Randy Newman.

Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and Tom Pettey - no clue about dude on right

Why would it be unexpected that these three are hanging together? Aren't they all American rock musicians?

Tuomas, Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

Mel Gibson/Lou Reed mixup pretty amazing imo.

LOL RANDY NEWMAN! How weird.

How are the ppl with Townshend and Clapton

The Townshend picture: I went to thewho.com and found it there. Caption: "1976-Pete backstage at Hammersmith Odeon with Don Williams
and Ronnie Lane, Danny Flowers (Don's guitarist) and Eric Clapton. 30th September."

StanM, Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:05 (fifteen years ago)

Pete Townsend top R and Eric Clapton and no clue about the others

(standing) Ronnie Lane, Don Williams, Pete Townshend
(crouching) Danny Flowers, Eric Clapton

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

Okay, but which one of those is the unexpected one?

Tuomas, Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

xxxp also Newman allegedly hates short people, believing that they have no reason to live...

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

Townshend / Clapton together in one picture, maybe that was unexpected at the time?

StanM, Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

Nope, that wasn't it - Townshend organised a benefit for Clapton a couple of years earlier and they were friends (first paragraph here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Clapton#Solo_career )

So crowded in fact that they had to boot MJ out of frame to fit in Warhol and his entourage...

Thanks. I was convinced that these two were MIA and Mark E. Smith.

Took me a while to figure out Randy Newman because he is rail thin in that picture. Not a look I usually associate with him.
