Are you familiar at all with Daniel Johnston? I guess the comparison is fairly superficial, but he does sort of seem to have a similar mix of cartoonishness, fundamentalist religiosity and obscenity.

DJ is a high-functioning retard, sadly over-exploited for the amusement of hipsters worldwide. Lacey, on the other hand, is extremely intelligent and amazingly talented. While his politics may not be 100% in line with hipster ideology today, it's impossible to pigeonhole him as a claw-fisted savant, incapable of realistically engaging modern culture. Dan's art is complex, whimsical, topical, and generally amazing. "Daniel Johnston" ought occur in no discussion of Dan Lacey.

Dan, is your Sarah/Todd painting supposed to be a comment on the Palin's parading of their Down Syndrome child like a political prop? I notice it's in between them, like a child, and that with the comparison is suggests that the baby is a meme, an idea, but dehumanized.

I'm just highlighting whatever I feel the subject matter is vis-à-vis the pancake method, just to draw an alternative emotional response. It's neither pro or con, usually.
