I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't going to be a new large-capacity iPod Touch. I had been holding out for a 120GB version.

Seconded. I refuse to pick and choose what albums I can carry around with me. I need all of them goddamnit.

mayor jingleberries, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

Hells yeah.

Moodles, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

So, is that the end of the Classic then?

scotstvo, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 19:10 (fifteen years ago)

no, it's still up

I still don't understand why anybody would buy the AppleTV thing, though it's nice that it's smaller and cheaper, it just doesn't make any sense to me. As a device it seems practically purposeless.

The new nano is kind of ugly & makes the touch look much more compelling. Still nothing has really come along here yet that's exciting enough to get me to give up on my slightly broken second generation nano :(

The AppleTV is like the simplest thing ever, I say "I want to watch the new episode of House" or "I want to see that one episode of some old show" and a few remote clicks and a couple bucks later, there it is.

I download a lot of content from Teh BitTorrentz, and if I want to watch it on my TV, now I can just stream it onto an AppleTV box instead of worrying about syncing anything, or putting it onto some PS3 compatible format (CD, DVD, flash drive, etc.)

Shock and Awe High School (Phil D.), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:08 (fifteen years ago)

you could also stream it directly to your computer or run it off your own hard drive

jeff, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

um, you can stream practically anything onto a PS3 using TVersity, Orb or PS3 Media Server

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

you can stream it onto a ps3

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

yeah media link on ps3 makes appleTV redundant

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

that's pretty much the main thing I use my ps3 for nowadays

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

what we're saying is, you can stream to ps3, so you don't need this

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

in case that wasn't clear

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

oh also ps3 yes? appletv no!

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

what's the easitest ps3 streamer? will it work outside local network? I know two dudes with ps3s who've never got this working properly.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

dude, you DON'T. NEED. APPLE. TV.

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

I got it to work with TVersity after about 30 minutes of fiddling with firewall settings

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

I know two dudes with ps3s who've never got this working properly.

AppleTV's prime market imo

jozam djinn (cozen), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

TVersity and PS3 Media Server don't work on Mac OSX, MediaLink I already have the trial for. The other reason is that it's more likely that Apple's box will have direct access to Hulu content before PS3 does. (I'm not paying $100+ a year for a Playstation Plus subscription, thanks.)

(and before any of you say PLAYON MEDIA SERVER, that doesn't run on Mac either.)

Shock and Awe High School (Phil D.), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

PS3 Media Server works great on OSX, no idea wtf you mean.

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

Also, AppleTV will have access to Hulu on the second of never, but you can already hack Hulu to work on a PS3 if you stick a http proxy in-between to change the browser user agent, afaik

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

I love the simplicity of the new apple tv. I would totally get it but I already have a HTPC that I can do all of that already.

Jeff, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

wait, if i have apple tv do i need a ps3?

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

yeah ps3 media server works like a peach on osx

jozam djinn (cozen), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

AppleTV only plays PS2 games, so if you have a new-style PS3 that only plays PS1/PS3 games then it is a good addition imo

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

now I'm just throwing misinfo on the thread

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

wait, if i have apple tv do i need a ps3?

Can your AppleTV play WipeoutHD?

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

i don't have an apple tv

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

they suck

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

connected my ps3 to a bass amp and played wipeout hd

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

awesome

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

really, wipeout hd should come with a large subwoofer or bass amp

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

I can't believe apple announced the ps4 today!!!!!

max, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

i'm kind of surprised sony doesn't come out with an integrated bravia/ps3, but they do have vaio TVs. what are they thinking?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

lol apple tv is hueg

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

the price of a bravia with the failure rate of a video game console, what an idea

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

when they buy a new one that's more $ for sony.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

The new AppleTV looks like a potential pickup for me - well, at least for my parents, where there's no PS3 or 360 and it'd be super nice to have a better-than-Roku alternative w/WiFi for Netflix streaming to the basement TV. Also, assuming I could network share their photos from Windows, a nice TV photo browser.

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

YOU DONT NEED A NEW ONE. YOU CAN STREAM TO PS3.

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

So I'm assuming the Apple TV can replace my airport express for Airtunes music? Would love to move the express (which I'm only using for Airtunes) to the bedroom.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

current apple tv does this. looks like it's not getting any updates, but airplay wld be sweet

stet, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

um, you can stream practically anything onto a PS3 using TVersity, Orb or PS3 Media Server

yeah but then you have to make sure your computer is on. YOU GOT TO KEEP IT SEPARATED.
