is flipboard a good rss reader?
― dayo, Monday, 30 August 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)
It's visually pleasing and fun for a while but I can't imagine using it that seriously
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 30 August 2010 07:27 (fifteen years ago)
It's not really an RSS reader, either.

Has anyone used the L5 Remote app/thingy (phone as universal remote)?
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 6 September 2010 08:21 (fifteen years ago)
Did you get y'r new iphone 4? Apparently the Fnac has it. My friend bought one immediately upon discovering they had it.... and now has remorse. lolol
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 6 September 2010 09:31 (fifteen years ago)
yes - in the end I managed to get it through Mobistar's website (you just need to refresh the store page for an hour or so and eventually you'll manage to order it). I only bought the new phone cuz my 3G was getting unbearably slow. I now think I should have waited for the OS 4.1 which fixes that apparently but w/e - the new one is really incredibly fast and responsive.
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 6 September 2010 09:54 (fifteen years ago)
I am now an iPhone4 cunt. Big difference from my old RIP Sony Ericsson phone. I don't know what to do with ti! I have to use iTunes for a start, and that thing seems to love rearranging my music collection so that it makes no sense at all. Also - how do I tell if I'm being charged to go online or use an app? Such a luddite.
― village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2010 10:03 (fifteen years ago)
Huh? If you're not on WIFI and you have your mobile settings, I assume you'll get charged. Don't know if I am explaining it properly. I switched it off after getting a GIGANTIC phone bill. lol. Actually the mobile company set it off for me. hahah
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 6 September 2010 10:18 (fifteen years ago)
I don't get it - don't you have a data plan?

i have a certain amount of data transfer free with my o2 contract, but i never know whether that is being used up or whether i am using wifi. i was told it would connect automatically with wifi. never mind, i'm sure i'll work it out.
― village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2010 11:09 (fifteen years ago)
You can look up your bill online, and on the phone, too. The app for that is pre-installed.
― Jesse, Monday, 6 September 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)
Ooh - I deposited two checks over my phone the other day.

Any really solid/quintessential biking apps? I don't need an odometer or anything but I'm looking for things that will:

"i have a certain amount of data transfer free with my o2 contract, but i never know whether that is being used up or whether i am using wifi."
At the top it should say 3G or whatever or have the little wifi symbol? Or is this just an american ting?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)
dammit.
after just over a month, the camera on my 4 just completely stopped working. and a little research shows this is apparently a common problem, which is probably going to necessitate an entirely new phone.
not happy.

no, i mean, i think they'll give me a new phone. that seems to be the common remedy. it's just a pain in the ass.

Any IM advice? I've been using eBuddy but it is crash crazy. Any better ones out there?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:38 (fifteen years ago)
I use beejive. It's not amazing, but is fine
― stet, Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)
Beejive is crazy $$$. I had eBuddy and couldn't stand it for the same reason. I switched to Meebo and it's not totally perfect but it is p. much better than eBuddy in every way and I was completely delighted when I made the switch.

Meebo has gone a day without crashing which makes it an immediate improvement over eBuddy.

IM+ is a great chat app. Don't be cheap, just buy it and stop worrying about what you should use for IM.
― brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 18 September 2010 20:35 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, if it's a really solid app with some unique and wonderful functionality I could see a justification of a $10 pricetag, but a client for a chat protocol? When several others exist for free and some of them are v decent?
― omg is it rly tru r u srly a woodpecker taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap (Stevie D), Saturday, 18 September 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)
I've never had IM+ crash, it works like i want it to work. Supports all chat services. $10 is 2 drinks, one lunch. Not a big deal when you think about it.
― brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

ok so I'm not going to update my touch to iOS 4 anytime soon (2nd generation, reports are that it will act badly after update, & I'm happy with its present behavior/capabilities). But some of my apps are being updated to require iOS 4. Obv. I don't want to update these apps. But in iTunes, next to Apps in my library, it now shows a 5, indicating that I've 5 apps needing updating, & I don't want to update them. How can I get this number to go away w/o updating?
― Euler, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)
I'd think you can't. Hell, there's a bug that causes iTunes to say you have X number that need updating when you don't have ANY that need updating, so you'll probably have that anyway.
Anyway, I have a touch 2nd gen, it seemed a little slower at first. Then I read about some basic thing to adjust, turn off location services or indexing or something, and it's fine. Not as snappy as it used to be, but works fine.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

― the milagro-beanfield war criminal (s1ocki), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)

No you can't!I seriously regretted updating, to the point where it basically convinced me to get the iPhone 4Now the ios 4.2 seems to speed up the 3G considerably so I'd still update in yr case
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 22 September 2010 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

iphone 5 number number one wish feature - mobile hotspot capability

mobile hotspots are here for some users. they'll be enabled on a carrier-by-carrier basis, often with ridiculous surcharges
google: at&t iphone tethering
― bike chain dust? (lukas), Wednesday, 22 September 2010 06:51 (fifteen years ago)
or maybe you mean hotspot for multiple computers, instead of tethering to a single computer?

i have the spend 2 app on my phone - i really wanna start using it for budgeting but i have no idea how to get started. the FAQ just tells you how to perform functions, but not the way it suggests you're actually meant to use it. For instance, does anyone know how the inactive and active budgets work? I take it I enter my wage packet into the Available slot, and then monthly outgoings, but I am not sure I'm doing it properly.
