We think she is border collie and corgi. The vet thought part basset hound, but she never seems interested in *smells* like a hound is. i am v glad to be schooled on positive uses of crating bc my perceptions have been negative. for ex, i knew a beautiful keeshond whose owners would use the crate as punishment and the poor thing would just go crazy in there and chew on himself. just awful.
another dog -- whippet/pit mix owned by a friend -- gets horrible separation anxiety and is v destructive if alone & crated, so i always associated the crate to a prison for her misbehaviour. but it's good to know that being in the crate may actually provide a sense of security when she is alone!

got up early, took santi outside for potty. santi refused to potty, came inside, with 30 seconds promptly pottied on floor. conversation on drive to work: how we wished he'd hurry up.
got home early from work today. took santi outside for potty, fully expecting no results. santi immediately potties. right where i buried his poop the other night.
we freak out, heap praise on santi. tail wags like nuts. i pick santi up. santi promptly sprouts massive erection and ejaculates on my shirt.
moral of story: be careful what you wish for.
