i listened to a tech podcast from when the Iphone 3G was released the other day and they were saying it was called 3G because thats the network it runs on even though the infrastructure was barely there. So, yeah, Apple tryin' to mess with people too shocka.

re: Netflix on iPhone, it's official -- I can carry a library of movies and music around wherever I go? We are living in the future.

Mordy, Friday, 27 August 2010 12:07 (fifteen years ago)

couldn't you do that already with the iphone?

piranha karenina (s1ocki), Friday, 27 August 2010 13:47 (fifteen years ago)

Netflix lib way bigger than what I could rip to my iphone

Mordy, Friday, 27 August 2010 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

is it streaming over 3g kinda thing

piranha karenina (s1ocki), Friday, 27 August 2010 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

3g and Wi-Fi. It syncs with your Netflix account and you can watch whatever's in your queue or search for other stuff.

OMG I just discovered this (on my ipad). My husband said it was an old game. I AM SO ADDICTED TO THIS. 234000 so far.

I am going to get the iphone4. Can't resist. lol

Nathalie (stevienixed), Saturday, 28 August 2010 13:08 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah drop7 is crack. Now even thinking of buying the soundtrack on iTunes

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Saturday, 28 August 2010 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

the couple of weeks we went without drop7 following the iOS 4 rollout was painful

Jeez this sounds like it might be the first app I actually pay for.

Can you guys recommend me your preferred free:
AIM/IM client
RSS reader

I've already settled on Echofon for Twitter and I quite like it.

Chanté Ackerman (Stevie D), Sunday, 29 August 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

Rss reader: for iPad I would say Reeder without any doubt. For iPhone I might give a small edge to Byline
As for IM: been happy for a while with Nimbuzz, which I also use on my desktop

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 29 August 2010 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

reeder for iphone has gotten buggier lately. also, not free. (though worth a few bucks imo)

156, Sunday, 29 August 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

is flipboard a good rss reader?

dayo, Monday, 30 August 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)

It's visually pleasing and fun for a while but I can't imagine using it that seriously

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 30 August 2010 07:27 (fifteen years ago)

It's not really an RSS reader, either.

Stevie, NetNewsWire for RSS is great. Sorry I couldn't get back to you with a real answer. Baby was wanting daddy. :)

brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 4 September 2010 02:00 (fifteen years ago)

Has anyone used the L5 Remote app/thingy (phone as universal remote)?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 6 September 2010 08:21 (fifteen years ago)

Did you get y'r new iphone 4? Apparently the Fnac has it. My friend bought one immediately upon discovering they had it.... and now has remorse. lolol

Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 6 September 2010 09:31 (fifteen years ago)

yes - in the end I managed to get it through Mobistar's website (you just need to refresh the store page for an hour or so and eventually you'll manage to order it). I only bought the new phone cuz my 3G was getting unbearably slow. I now think I should have waited for the OS 4.1 which fixes that apparently but w/e - the new one is really incredibly fast and responsive.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 6 September 2010 09:54 (fifteen years ago)

I am now an iPhone4 cunt. Big difference from my old RIP Sony Ericsson phone. I don't know what to do with ti! I have to use iTunes for a start, and that thing seems to love rearranging my music collection so that it makes no sense at all. Also - how do I tell if I'm being charged to go online or use an app? Such a luddite.

village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2010 10:03 (fifteen years ago)

Huh? If you're not on WIFI and you have your mobile settings, I assume you'll get charged. Don't know if I am explaining it properly. I switched it off after getting a GIGANTIC phone bill. lol. Actually the mobile company set it off for me. hahah

Nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 6 September 2010 10:18 (fifteen years ago)

I don't get it - don't you have a data plan?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 6 September 2010 10:51 (fifteen years ago)

i have a certain amount of data transfer free with my o2 contract, but i never know whether that is being used up or whether i am using wifi. i was told it would connect automatically with wifi. never mind, i'm sure i'll work it out.

village idiot (dog latin), Monday, 6 September 2010 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

You can look up your bill online, and on the phone, too. The app for that is pre-installed.

Jesse, Monday, 6 September 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

Ooh - I deposited two checks over my phone the other day.

Jesse, Monday, 6 September 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

Any really solid/quintessential biking apps? I don't need an odometer or anything but I'm looking for things that will:

  • Accurately trace my route (preferably one that supports multitasking)
  • Give me bike directions, since the Maps app doesn't have them :(

"i have a certain amount of data transfer free with my o2 contract, but i never know whether that is being used up or whether i am using wifi."

At the top it should say 3G or whatever or have the little wifi symbol? Or is this just an american ting?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

dammit.

after just over a month, the camera on my 4 just completely stopped working. and a little research shows this is apparently a common problem, which is probably going to necessitate an entirely new phone.

not happy.

WTF... Is there no guarantee?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

no, i mean, i think they'll give me a new phone. that seems to be the common remedy. it's just a pain in the ass.

Any IM advice? I've been using eBuddy but it is crash crazy. Any better ones out there?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:38 (fifteen years ago)

I use beejive. It's not amazing, but is fine

stet, Thursday, 16 September 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

Beejive is crazy $$$. I had eBuddy and couldn't stand it for the same reason. I switched to Meebo and it's not totally perfect but it is p. much better than eBuddy in every way and I was completely delighted when I made the switch.

omg is it rly tru r u srly a woodpecker taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap (Stevie D), Thursday, 16 September 2010 17:00 (fifteen years ago)
