Also at one point Kenneth called it a "reunion of FRIENDS...from Night Court" or something.
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Saturday, 15 November 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

"the one with..." was how all the friends episodes were named. also, I think 30 rock has the thursday time slot both friends and night court had so this was all kind of a geeky NBC thing but I liked it.

I saw it as more like the 30 Rock writers making fun of the fact that nbc wanted them to have jennifer aniston on to increase ratings.
― mizzell, Saturday, 15 November 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)
man nothing can top the awesome speech that dennis makes after liz break's up with him. " And for the first time since the '86 World Series, I cried. I cried like a big dumb homo"

Dennis Duffy and Dr Spaceman should have spin-offs.

is dennis coming back this season?
(p.s. I laughed very loudly at this episode, although a lot of the night court stuff was lost on me)
― caek, Saturday, 15 November 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)
He needs to come back. Any episode with him is solid gold.
― ILX MOD (musically), Saturday, 15 November 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)
DENNIS: This restaurant isn't that nice. It's got rats and roaches like every other restaurant.LIZ [whispers, shaking head]: No rat talk tonight, OK?DENNIS: You know there are seventeen rats per person in Manhattan. You eat a pound of rat crap every year without even knowing about it.JACK: Yes, I think I read about that in the New Yorker.
― caek, Saturday, 15 November 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)
DENNIS: That girl said she was 16, but I swear to God she was 22.
You know who else needs to have speaking parts in every episode? Dotcom and Grizz.
Dennis: Dear Liz Lemon: While other women have bigger boobs than you, no other woman has as big a heart. When I saw you getting ready to go out and get nailed by a bunch of guys last night, I knew for sure it was over between us, and for the first time since the ‘86 World Series, I cried...I cried like a big, dumb homo. And if it was up to me, we’d be together forever. But there’s a new thing called "women’s liberation," which gives you women the right to choose and you have chosen to abort me, and that I must live with. So tonight, when you arrive home, I’ll be gone. I officially renounce my squatter’s rights. Goodbye and good luck. I'll never forget you.

i'm trying to talk myself into the fact that this show is going to get canceled and it's OK. I just want there to be as little letdown as possible when it inevitably happens. i wish all you fucktards would watch this so this doesnt happen, obv
― Kevin Keller, Sunday, 16 November 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)
Who are you calling "all you fucktards"? The people who aren't reading this thread because they don't watch the show, or the people who are reading this thread because they do watch the show?

...you fucktard.
I think NBC's pretty comfortable with their 9pm hour on Thursdays for right now. And realistic about it. I mean, they're up against Grey's Anatomy and CSI, so they're never expecting to win it.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 November 2008 00:17 (seventeen years ago)
the former! xp
― Kevin Keller, Sunday, 16 November 2008 00:37 (seventeen years ago)
I have heard is that 30 Rock is so NBC-inside baseball that all the network execs are too fond of it to let it die. Hopefully that's true.

It's one of those shows where the average person who watches it tends to buy a lot of expensive shit, so it's a great demo for the network.

this joke was undermined by the fact that there was an article about that in the new yorker not that long ago!
― s1ocki, Sunday, 16 November 2008 08:22 (seventeen years ago)
NOT undermined but maybe even BASED ON?
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Sunday, 16 November 2008 08:46 (seventeen years ago)
Like the joke was written around the article maybe? I don't know I'm not a fancy fast paced NYer.
except theres only a few hundred thousand rats in nyc not 130m - i hav no stats re amount of rat poo consumed by yr average nyer annually

Robert Carlock writes on 30 Rock, He also wrote on Friends; This may explain the 'The one with..' phenomenon. It also makes me sad.
― bingolola, Sunday, 16 November 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)
"phenomenon"? they titled one Friends-related episode as a reference to the Friends episode titles.
― The hardman from the hilarious 'ilx' admin log (some dude), Sunday, 16 November 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)
one of the only shows i can think of that can get away with casting these guest stars like this. UGH why is thursday four days away?
― Kevin Keller, Sunday, 16 November 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)
i still wish there were fewer guest stars. the cast is so strong on its own. still missing dr. spaceman.
