nowhere I've been, except maybe the bar at Bimbo's, which I don't think is always open.

slim's 333 was featured in Basic Instict, but it's a dive IRL.

What's that place in the mission with the roof terrace?

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

what was the dance club in basic instict? dv8 or something similar that no longer exists?

akm, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

xp - the douchey one where Newsom supporters had parties back in the dot com days?

sarahel, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

Almost certainly. Although I think that whatsisname had a thing there when I was there. The guy that lost to Newsom who liked Pavement

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

Ah Matt Gonzales, how I wish you had won. You played bass in a rock band.

incidentally what the hell was that crazy ass swank restaurant bar that used to be on like, commercial near north beach? it closed at least eight years ago, maybe longer.

akm, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

haha, yeah. Him. That guy is SO SF to me.

xp

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

matt gonzales who then ran with Nader. he's a nice enough guy. I think SF is ungovernable like the rest of california.

akm, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

ooh Matt Gonzales - he was sooooo dreamy - he had art exhibitions in his board of supes office

sarahel, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

LA doesn't really have a city government, but we do have this place now:

Suck it, losers. Makes your Metreon like like a fucking sandcastle

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

akm, i live at 34th and Tele. so oakland.. it is genuinely sunny here (after noon) about 90% of the time. no joke. Emeryville sucks shit, it is too near the water to have good weather, I think. also, it is a faketown.

a repulsive person and/or a repulsive sphincter (the table is the table), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:12 (fifteen years ago)

sunny does not equal warm, however.

sarahel, Monday, 9 August 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

the 500 club might be the most hated bar in my life. fuck those bartenders, fuck the jocks at the bar for calling me names.

a repulsive person and/or a repulsive sphincter (the table is the table), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, but i wear cut-off t shirts most days. around 6 i put on a sweatshirt. and around 9, a jacket.

the Cyprus Club is what I was trying to remember.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

yeah that's it

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

fuck the jocks at the bar for calling me names.

Whoa, really?

My experiences at the 500 have been pretty civilized.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

Adam's nipples might disagree about the civility there.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

It has to be mentioned every time the 500 club is brought up, doesn't it?

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

That place makes me think of Sparks. And heartburn

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

xp it does!

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

Every single time I've been to 500 it was because some other place was too crowded.

Thanks for some of the restaurant ideas listed--My son and I made it to Taqueria Cancun in the Mission, and to Muraccis(Japanese Katsu curry) in the financial district. Both were yummy.

Contemplating a trip to SF this fall...

jaymc, Thursday, 19 August 2010 22:20 (fifteen years ago)

FYI: I'm going to be at Rosamunde Sausage Grill at 5pm, wrapped as skin-tight as a sausage and leaving precious little to the imagination for those who crave such a thing.

Come and get some.

multiple x-post ...

re. floating down the russian.

what company did you use? did you do the 10 mile canoe trip?

djh, Friday, 20 August 2010 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

SOAR in healdsburg was my chosen outfitter, $50/head. 8 mile trip, took us a little less than 4 hours, no big whoop. we did a lot of paddling though, like more than you're probably supposed to do for it to be considered a "leisurely" voyage, and we finished well before everyone else. two things i did not like: 1) inflatable canoes that lack a keel and therefore tend to spin all over the place unless you're real good about paddling on each side equitably; 2) girl that checked us in had a nasty attitude and a raging case of the mouth herpes to match. beer and sandwiches-wise, there's an A&M market two stores over that'll hook you up before you go, and SOAR will let you borrow one of their coolers if you don't have one. oh yeah and remember to put sunscreen on your legs, too - i forgot.

del griffith, Friday, 20 August 2010 16:14 (fifteen years ago)

Burke's Canoes is $50 per canoe (metal) , you can fit 2-3 people in each one. it's got free transport back to the start. do it on sundays as there's way less river traffic then on Saturday. Also on Sunday if you have time you can hit the Sebastapol farmer's market for lunch on the way in to the river. Speaking as a child of agrarian immigrants, this is one of the better farmer's markets in the bay area.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Friday, 20 August 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

Marvellous. And where should we go for wine between Burke's and Santa Rosa?

djh, Saturday, 21 August 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

sebastapool's market is good!

there is this street food festival in the mission today. might go.

akm, Saturday, 21 August 2010 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

street food festival was fun but predictably overcrowded. saw no ilxors. did eat some stuff from the beretta stand.
