It's plausible to people who haven't been paying attention: Since Pelosi represents San Francisco, she a priori must be some godawful wacko commie leftist type, right? Wrong. For instance, Cindy Sheehan ran against Pelosi this year because she felt Pelosi wasn't strongly enough anti-war! Both her and Reid are quite the pragmatists, more interested in accomplishing reasonable goals than running aground trying to prove an ideological point, in my view.
