Veronica Mars

I just dug out my Veronica Mars dvd set and Episode 5 is probably the worst episode of the season (well maybe the Paris Hilton one earlier is worse). The thing is from around episode 11 the series hits a really great roll all the way to the end. Now it may be the show just isn't to your taste, but it might be worth hanging on a wee bit longer to see if that second half of the season saves it for you.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with it a bit longer, because it's harmless/mindless enough, and def. sharp enough for me to suspect it can do better. With Troy out of the way, I hope it's onward and upward! Or at least reaches cruising altitude.

duncan is way more the kind of dude i would sorta roll my eyes at when girls go gaga for him ... hes pretty cardboard as a personality, a centered person but not much for entertaining conversation. also hella mopey (w good reason obv im just sayin)

the lawyer is def a great character too. trying to think of characters i just dont like & kinda struggling

I just met my downstairs neighbor for the first time this morning and he could have walked off a Veronica Mars 09er casting call. He sounds like an 09er and even has kind of an 09er name (no offense to the two prominent ILX posters with the same name).

In fact, I will probably just refer to him as Dick Casablancas going forward.

3 is a total drag, though I vaguely recall liking the Paul Rudd ep and the final one. Bizarre that they pulled the old "let's send them all to the same college" TV move and then you hardly see Wallace and Mac (iirc) once they get there. Also, they make Veronica genuinely unpleasant, judgmental, and rash.

i miss wallace. i feel like percy daggs is never going to be cast in anything ever again.

I was being pretty glib about most TV characters being hateable, and that doesn't apply to V Mars for me (I even like Logan!) but there are definitely shows I enjoy where I don't like any of the characters but for some reason I can't remember what they are right now.

Yeah, it's pretty rough. I guess it was silly to keep watching and expect it to get better. I did like the last episode, though.

So ep. 6 was OK, but now (scanning these recent posts) I'm a bit worried. Do I watch til the end of season one then cut and run? Season 2? Half of season 2?

Watch all of Season 2 or none of it. Watching half of it is sort of pointless.

S2 broadens the Neptune world significantly, building on what I said was such a strength in a rather complicated way. There are some bad individual episodes (that jury duty one is justly reviled), but I ultimately admire that season for its ambition, even if it kind of blows it at the very end.

The ending of S2 was so Scooby Doo and ott that it just about ruined the season for me.

yeah, "kind of blows it" is too charitable. Compare that rooftop scene with the final confrontation in S1 and it's like, wth happened writers?

Frankly, I loved it. It was so over the top and crazy, and it almost fit the weird escalation that started off the season with the bus killing all those kids. To me, season 2 was not quite up to the level of season 1, but still great.

imo, its better as 'totally wtf unpredictable' than 'oh so it was the janitor' the way it had potential to be (that would have been the scooby doo ending iirc)

they do leave some loose ends in the season, that im p sure they had trouble resolving

i actually think the veronica-wigs-out subplot in s3 is kinda ... right. i mean as far as her being super-suspicious of logan & everything, it just makes more logical sense than '& they lived happily ever after.'

i do hope they give logan some irreverence back tho hes kind of turned into duncan :-/

for some reason, it took me half of S1 before i could consistently recognize duncan when he came on-screen. he just kind of faded into the sea of other douchey-looking brown-haired guys at the school. during one episode i was like "oh you know what, duncan wears argyle a lot, i'll bet i can remember him that way," but it turned out to be same episode where ducan lends logan one of his argyle sweaters and SEXY MIXUPS occur.

that guys is super forgettable in every way, yeah

i think rob thomas had big plans for duncan as a character but the dude who played him just couldn't get it done, acting-wise
