At least Veronica Mars didn't have an awesome pool hall/bar/concert venue (with national touring acts!)... that caters to one high school and only serves juice/soda.

Did you not get to the episode where Spoon plays yet.

I remember almost no details about VM (except for how much I hated the 12 Angry Men/Veronicas episode)

v mars doesn't ramp up like buffy but it starts out stronger (i love buffy a lot more overall but the first season of vmars is better than the first season of buffy). also, vmars starts moving really fast about six episodes from the end of the season and then it's impossible to stop watching. i think i watched the last six episodes in a night the first time i watched the first season through.

person who finds the characters unlikeable, how can you dislike Cliff??!?

horseshoe, Monday, 2 August 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

logan 100% rubbish

conrad, Monday, 2 August 2010 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

I just dug out my Veronica Mars dvd set and Episode 5 is probably the worst episode of the season (well maybe the Paris Hilton one earlier is worse). The thing is from around episode 11 the series hits a really great roll all the way to the end. Now it may be the show just isn't to your taste, but it might be worth hanging on a wee bit longer to see if that second half of the season saves it for you.

treefell, Monday, 2 August 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I think I'll stick with it a bit longer, because it's harmless/mindless enough, and def. sharp enough for me to suspect it can do better. With Troy out of the way, I hope it's onward and upward! Or at least reaches cruising altitude.

I just met my downstairs neighbor for the first time this morning and he could have walked off a Veronica Mars 09er casting call. He sounds like an 09er and even has kind of an 09er name (no offense to the two prominent ILX posters with the same name).

In fact, I will probably just refer to him as Dick Casablancas going forward.

all the white boy 09ers remind me so much of every single boy i went to high school with it's crazy

3 is a total drag, though I vaguely recall liking the Paul Rudd ep and the final one. Bizarre that they pulled the old "let's send them all to the same college" TV move and then you hardly see Wallace and Mac (iirc) once they get there. Also, they make Veronica genuinely unpleasant, judgmental, and rash.

elephant rob, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

i miss wallace. i feel like percy daggs is never going to be cast in anything ever again.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

yeah. I would get super depressed whenever that Hot Pockets or whatever commercial he was in would come on.

elephant rob, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

I was being pretty glib about most TV characters being hateable, and that doesn't apply to V Mars for me (I even like Logan!) but there are definitely shows I enjoy where I don't like any of the characters but for some reason I can't remember what they are right now.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, it's pretty rough. I guess it was silly to keep watching and expect it to get better. I did like the last episode, though.

ô_o (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

So ep. 6 was OK, but now (scanning these recent posts) I'm a bit worried. Do I watch til the end of season one then cut and run? Season 2? Half of season 2?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

Watch all of Season 2 or none of it. Watching half of it is sort of pointless.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

jesus, all of it is worth watching!

can't believe the dad of the deceased girl - can you tell i'm crap with names - is that dude from homicide!!!!

Nathalie (stevienixed), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

his character in homicide becomes really really interesting as the seasons go on

blap...tremendo (deej), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah season 2 is great btw ... if you get halfway through you'll want to watch the end.

blap...tremendo (deej), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:12 (fifteen years ago)

S2 isn't perfect but it must count as one of the most ambitious seasons of TV ever.

Simon H., Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:13 (fifteen years ago)

wow this ep is where s3 really takes a hit huh

vmars getting all 'noid about her prof is ugh

blap...tremendo (deej), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 01:42 (fifteen years ago)

S2 broadens the Neptune world significantly, building on what I said was such a strength in a rather complicated way. There are some bad individual episodes (that jury duty one is justly reviled), but I ultimately admire that season for its ambition, even if it kind of blows it at the very end.
