Jordan, I wonder if they have any slightly sexier versions of those that would look nice with my camisole sets?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Towing is expensive, yes. That's why we gave you SO MANY other options, John. See? Always your best interests at heart.

Sarah, one sometimes reads descriptions in Wodehouse and assorted early-20th century fiction of "dimpled elbows", which sounds rawther adorable but in reality? I dunno. They're probably just normal? I can't tell anymore, NYC has screwed up my standards (I know this because I was in MI last weekend and WHOAH).

XP: ADD LACE.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, perhaps for your next project you could knit some cozy elbow pads?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Red would match..

Two things - (1) I like my thighs better now that they have some meat on them and

My friend works at M0torola and Bono is in her office right now. Like, on Michigan Ave. She saw him twice and he was wearing shades indoors.

The Milkmaid: spreading gossip since 1975 (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... maybe...
For now I could just wad up some silk slips and rubberband them around my arms. Pure class.

I would think he would be more recognizable WITH shades on.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

No, Laurel! Don't shut up - I was just trying to make you feel better about the naked thing by pointing out that men are basically simple creatures...* I'm a walking bag of body issues, so I totally feel where you're coming from.

*winky face

NYC has screwed up my standards - I went from the NC to Chicago and I would probably break down and weep after half a day in NY.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

RETAKE! I went from living in NC to living in Chicago, etc.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Who wants to go to MI Ave and give Bono a kick in the pants with me? Just for shits and giggles.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:21 (twenty years ago)

He waved at my friend! Like HALLO RED ROCKS!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Towing is expensive, yes. That's why we gave you SO MANY other options, John. See? Always your best interests at heart.

Eh. It wasn't that expensive. I mean, it was, but it was worth it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:22 (twenty years ago)

For the most part, I think Chicago bodies look normal. I mean, when Nick and I visited different cities, trying to decide where to live, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety here. Whenever I've visited New York, I've felt like a big Fattie McFatsolot, especially in stores.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:23 (twenty years ago)

i just spent the money i had earmarked for my gas bill on records. c'mon and ship those bad boys canadian distro company!!!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:23 (twenty years ago)

Whenever I've visited New York, I've felt like a big Fattie McFatsolot

you're crazy. do ALL women think they're fat, regardless of what their body looks like? i mean, is it a continual state of feeling at least 5 lbs. overweight or someting?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:25 (twenty years ago)

'cause i'd been dating this girl who was a size 2 tall petite and she was always saying how she was getting fat. i was both confounded and flummoxed.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:26 (twenty years ago)

I told this story on ILM, but at Jazzfest I saw a brass band fronted by a dude well-known for his star-time schtick. He can be a little overbearing but he's a great singer/trombonist and performer. Anyway, they're doing 'Stand By Me' and this white dude comes out with a mic. We're like, "heh, WTF, that dude looks like the Edge."

Of course it was the Edge, and they do a chorus of rock star back-to-back singing. Then the Edge keeps singing, and Gl3nn D4vid Andr3ws pretty shoves him off stage, like "nah man, I got it." It was awesome.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:27 (twenty years ago)

xp - It all depends on your frame. I'm petite too, and 5 el bees makes a bigger difference on me than it does on someone who's taller/larger than I am. Although Sarah -- you ain't got an inch to pinch.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure not all women have that problem, but I would wager a lot of them do.

2 tall petite - that can't be true. In women's clothing, "petite" is the opposite of "tall." As in Sarah shops in the tall section, while Amanda shops in petites.

We can arrange by height again if it would help demonstrate...

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

nope, j crew makes a 2 tall petite. i learned that this past x-mas.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I also gotta say that the clothes in the petite section BLOW. Hello extremely short momjeans.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:32 (twenty years ago)

although x-mas is beyond my 4 month window of retaining information. i just remember it was hard for her to buy stuff off the rack.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Petite used to mean short, not narrow/small boned, but I guess the meaning changes according to the whimsy of the garment industry, like sizes.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, J, but body issues are for girltalk, not group socializing, and I talk about mine too much already when I should shut up and do something more productive with that angst. Plus I will microanalyze ANYTHING if I have TWO MINUTES of mental free time and next thing you know I'll be crying or something. STUPID. PMS, anyone? ANYONE??

Re NYC: It depends on yr crowd, really. I did lots of stuff for a couple of years with glamourbombs and super Williamsburg types who always looked RAWK 'N ROLL and cutting-edge. Well. It's not really "cutting" ANYTHING, of course. But it's easy to forget how unimportant/optional that kind of thing is when yr surrounded by it, and I forgot to remember that the "coolest" mod girls were on the curvy side, as a group, and ditto lots of other subcultures and/or social networks. For various reasons I lost a bunch of weight in my hipster period and while I wouldn't say I was ever in "eating disorder" territory (partially because that assumes that eating is an OPTION, which it sometimes isn't when you're broke), I did get to the point where I was like, "what a relief, my stomach is now COMPLETELY FLAT but I still can't get rid of these HIPS OH NOESSSSS I hate my skeleton". WHICH IS TOTALLY STUPID.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

I bet it is! 2 tall petite is CRAZY OUT THE ASS. I can't imagine how skinny minnie this woman must be.

I must add that the last time I went to NYC (@ 3.5 years ago maybe?) I was @ 40 pounds heavier.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

I'd wager that a lot of women do. I do, particuarly when I'm all bloated from the onset of period.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

yes. laurel, sweet yessesses on stupid pms.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I feel like my body shape approximates an album cover by Tara Jane O'Neil, minus the boob sagging. Give me a few decades on that one...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Dudes, I'm totally finding somewhere to hide to read. I don't have any work to do. Hardly anyone is here. Screw it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

stupid pms.

my favorite pms moment came courtesy of the ex-roomate one saturday morning when i'd slept in. she was already awake and i said "good morning sweet pea, how are you?" and she asked me why i don't just shut the fuck up.

ah pms how much i do not miss having you visit.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

WAIT I MEAN SARAH!!!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

SO WEIRD. YOU CAN SEE WHY I THOUGHT THAT KELSEY POSTED THAT, THOUGH, SINCE WE LISTENED TO THAT ALBUM A LOT IN THE YEAR 2000. Y2K.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I feel like my body shape approximates an album cover by Tara Jane O'Neil, minus the boob sagging...

Huh. I think that body looks very normal, if a little sad. Also, not quite right with the feet.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Hah, John, that picture just makes me sing "Midnight at the Oasis" to myself.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

when i think tjo'n i think "punching myself in the face, repeatedly, publicly".

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

"Midnight at the Oasis"

GREAT THANKS FOR THAT IN MY HEAD NOW.

...put your camel to bed...

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

I just missed her when I moved up here . . . last time I saw her (empty bottle) I totally talked to her after & asked if she'd want to do an art trade. she was game, but i never went through with it. i was too fucking nervous or something.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Hah, John, that picture just makes me sing "Midnight at the Oasis" to myself.

Yeah, I couldn't find any pictures of the restaurant scene, though.

when i think tjo'n i think "punching myself in the face, repeatedly, publicly".

Expand on this, please.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

I just realized I haven't had anything to eat yet today.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I think that one time, TJO got Kevin in a headlock and then made him punch himself in the face, the whole while saying, "Why are you hitting yourself? Huh? Stop hitting yourself!"

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Expand on this, please.

it was a song on the b-side of sebadoh's "skull" 7" from 94(?). it was basically a mash note written by jason lowenstein to tara jane o'neill. i'm guessing they used to be an item or something, that would explain her playing drums on a couple of jake's tracks on the bakesale album.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:56 (twenty years ago)

She did have an album called TJO TKO.

Also: I thought she liked the ladies.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Haha -- I had a Sebadoh single once. I wonder what happened to it.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

i used to have a sizeable collection of sebadoh stuff. except for eric's stuff it hasn't aged well with me.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Was TJO'N in Rodan? I saw them open for Sebadoh.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 5 May 2006 15:00 (twenty years ago)

i am the only person on this entire floor right now. i've got the gories cranked up. i'm hoping whatever meeting everyone is in lasts all damn day. casiotowen is on now. all my favorites.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 15:00 (twenty years ago)

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 5 May 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)
