the Teddy Atlas Fight Plan segment of Friday Night Fights is the greatest thing in the history of television btw

fast-moving but not terribly eventful round 1 in Rodriguez-Theophane
― gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Saturday, 31 July 2010 02:14 (fifteen years ago)
not watched a fight in ages actually. Any biggies coming up soon?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 31 July 2010 02:21 (fifteen years ago)
tomorrow is Marquez-Diaz II - Diaz is a reliably fun fighter to watch, real game head-down pounder, Marquez is a monster vet who I think handed Diaz his first loss last time around. Klitschko meets Peter on September 11th if you get off on watching half-asleep Russians beat up fat guys.

interesting bout going on between rodriguez & theophane right now meanwhile - rodriguez is the better fighter, longer reach & better fight plan, but theophane is the game little dude, who doesn't enjoy a game little dude, and instead of getting in close he throws huge looping rights from way downtown, two of which have connected
rodriguez will win but this is kinda fun

I'll check and see if the fights on sky. sometimes US PPV fights are free here on sky sports as noone would pay to watch. I hate it when its on PPV though. we get ESPN free with sky sports package so its better when it's on there!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 31 July 2010 02:32 (fifteen years ago)
I know about PPV being free in other countries - several times I've been away from home on business and ended up seeing big-ticket fights for free

great innit?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 31 July 2010 02:37 (fifteen years ago)
split decision for theophane, to the disgust of ESPN announcers and most of the crowd...oklahoma is where Holyfield used to go to find a doctor who'd give him to the OK to take another fight, just sayin'

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 August 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
yeah I expected fights 2 and 3 to last a hell of a lot longer. did enjoy despaigne vs. paines though, nice style clash

Haye vs Ordinary Harrison
Jesus fucking Chrissssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
― 'ray Clamence (Noodle Vague), Monday, 23 August 2010 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
Dunno I think I'd quite enjoy Audley taking another beating or Haye being found out vs a limited fighter. Either way at least one of them will stfu about legacies (though I say that every time Audley loses and he still seems to think he's a player).
― a harshbuzz to my manpain (onimo), Monday, 23 August 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)
Wd be happy for Ordinary to be finally properly shut up but Haye's dodging of the Klitschkos is getting embarrassing now.

No-one watching Burns v Martinez? Has been some struggle, both look dead on their feet, but still rallying for flurries of punches. Burns has been immense and should take it on points if he can stand up for a further minute.
― ailsa, Saturday, 4 September 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)
Which he did, and he does.

mayweather's racist anti-pacquiao shit is so fuckin annoying, as is his pseudo-apology (he taped himself with a Chinese woman and a Thai woman and kissed them both - see, how can I be racist when I like these wonderful women?). I don't think pac-man should fight him at all, really, and i worry a little that pacquiao's getting older - which I think is part of mayweather's strategy - put off the fight three years, get pacquiao out of his prime. floyd's conditioning is so spectacular & he's such a natural, and his defense is so hard to penetrate, that he can afford that kind of game. I really think the reasonable response is exactly the high-ish road that pacquiao's been taking.
in other boxing news r.i.p. bob arum's son, sad stuff.

― nakhchivan, Saturday, 11 September 2010 21:00 (fifteen years ago)
hmmmmmn
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical riddle that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality. Alexander T. Jackson, one of the great minds of the 20th century, is quoted as saying, "View points of this riddle differ based on the perceived definition of the word sound, often confused with the definition of the word hearing."

samuel peter kinda admirable tho

admirable aye but honestly they may as well have hung him on a hook
― pissky in the jar (onimo), Saturday, 11 September 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)
kinda feel the ref is complicit in fiiiiinally getting some action for the crowd even if peter has to get a bit of brain damage too
― nakhchivan, Saturday, 11 September 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)
Yes it should have been stopped once his eye closed (6th round or thereabouts?).

BBC coverage of boxing at the CG has been shit, they only showed the Khan fight because of his brother.

15 quid for the fraudly vs haye fight. so a pound for every 5 seconds or something?
― rappa ternt sagna (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 7 November 2010 22:02 (fifteen years ago)
Ha. I wondered if they'd have the gall to ppv it. Shd make them a tidy 150 quid each, ish.

Wow at weight difference for Haye vs Harrison - Haye not much over the Cruiserweight limit at 15 stone, Harrison is over 18st.
― Smiley panda mixed moniker (7,4) (onimo), Friday, 12 November 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)
Strange that Sky haven't thrown the Pacquaio v Maragarito onto the PPV package with the Haye fight - looks like Manny's going to be on regular old Sky Sports 1.
― Smiley panda mixed moniker (7,4) (onimo), Friday, 12 November 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)
lol Harrison giving it the "good big 'un always beats a good little 'un" trope - playing fast and loose with the "good" bit there.
― Smiley panda mixed moniker (7,4) (onimo), Friday, 12 November 2010 14:45 (fifteen years ago)
interesting how the 24/7 has been pushing the "manny is so distracted" angle. i guess they need something to try and portray that this will be a watchable fight. i kinda like maguerito & think hes a tough dude but pacquiaos gonna be way too fast for him right?
― johnny crunch, Friday, 12 November 2010 14:59 (fifteen years ago)
I'm dog-sitting for friends who told me I could order the fight on their cable, but I think I'd feel bad wasting their $65 on this. I think I'll watch free UFC and torrent the fight afterward if it's actually good.
