aka BLACK SABBATH. I hope this is on your list. (Unless you've already seen it.)

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

omg Race with the Devil is RIDIC! I loved it! Best part takes place in a "mobile home park." Lots of gratuitious motorbiking too.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

BEEEEERR IN JUST OVER 2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you drinking with us?

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

I prob. can't get there until 6:30, as usual.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

Also, argh, I am trying to transliterate Persian. I don't know why I bother, except I want to know why the spelling "Hossein" (instead of "Hussein") is more common in Iran than elsewhere.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

Probably along the same reasons as you see "hummus" "hommos" "hommous" etc.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)

Amanda, I can't find that on IMDB!

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

It would not be a bad idea to have a Barbara Steele film fest.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

It's sometimes called Mask of Satan or Black Sunday or any number of things -- look up Mario Bava and you'll find it.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, this is probably it.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

I would like to see THE SHE BEAST.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

I also like Season of the Witch, which is out on DVD now.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, ok. Found it FOR REALS this time.

Hey, I would totally be agreeable to hosting such a film fest unless someone else is up for it.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Who, me?"

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

I just noticed that Shivers, which is on my list, is a Barbara Steele film too.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

She has a really nice nose.
Interesting:
James Poe wrote an excellent role for Barbara in "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" (1969). The role ended up going to Susannah York, and Barbara wouldn't act in movies again for 5 years.

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

Btw, why didn't anyone tell me that Busy Philips is on ER? I wasn't prepared to flip channels one day and see her taking a bubble bath.

So is Linda Cardellini!

So, Dan, are you coming to our Barbara Steele moviethon?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

Sure, why not!

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

Do you own any of her movies, A?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

Nope. But I've seen some.

I even saw one recently -- it also had Vincent Price in it. Don't remember what it was called...

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

HA for a second I read "Do you own any of her motives", and thought about standardized Motive Profiles, which you could download.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

Hey is anyone else going to see the National on Saturday? Anyone besides the two people I am going with that also read this thread, that is.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

Where? Who else is playing?
I'm trying to get some peeps to go see BdRole tomorrow night.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

Those two shows would make for a fabulous weekend.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE IST THE NATIONAL PLAYING?

I love their newest album, I think it might be my fave of the year right now. However, I have suspicions that they might be boring live.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

I forgot to say earlier but I want to do SOMETHING fun Saturday night to celebrate being done with GRE (unless I do bad and decide to take it again).

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

It's at the Vic. I'm not sure who else is playing.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

OH NOES. When we saw Sp00n there it was a sit-down snorefest (Sp00n were still great though).

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Well it was our choice to sit down. You can stand up downstairs.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

Sit down upstairs vs. stand up downstairs

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

REGRET.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

How does the service work, exactly? “We get the customer's vehicle home so they don't need to take a cab back to their car in the morning, remember where they left the car, pay for any tickets or towing fees they may have received and most importantly, so they don’t drive drunk,” explains Campbell. “Our drivers use folding mopeds to get to your location. Upon meeting you at your vehicle they will fold their moped up and store it in a travel bag which goes in the trunk of your car. Once you reach your destination, your driver will hand you the keys, unfold the moped and be off to the next customer.”

And don’t worry, they’re all fully insured. Plus, when they come to pick up your drunk ass, these charming ladies and gents all wear tuxedo shirts.

This sounds awesome!

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

thanks for the job tips you guys, i'll email soon.

toby had me read the 'zings' thread because he knows i love kicking and screaming. but i don't want to post on that thread, so i'll say it here.

dan, i thought you were talking about a horse race or some other sporting event, rather than a band.

colette, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

That reminds me: there are 4 remaining Fire home games this year. They are on 9/23 (this coming Sunday), 10/6, 10/10, and 10/21. The latter is probably sold out (vs. LA Galaxy even though Beckham is unlikely to play). The 10/10 game is a friendly vs. a Mexican team. I want to go to at least one of these games, but Sunday is probably out of the question. Anyone who wants to go with, email me: thedanmartin at gmail dot com.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Longshot here, but do any of you know anything about the laws regarding who can officiate a wedding in Michigan? I've looked up several resources onling but I seem to be getting conflicting information and convuloted answers. Basically, we want a friend of ours to marry us next summer. We were hoping she could just do what she needed to do get a justice of the peace or whatever, but it seems pretty clear MI doesn't have that. Anybody happen to know a way around this?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Also they are on ESPN2 tonight vs. Dallas. I am going to try and get the bar to turn it on if there are TVs.

xp: I think they're pretty lax. Two separate friends of mine have performed weddings after getting certified online.

also what que said

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan, there's one of those in New Jersey, too -- except without the mopeds.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure Larry Bell is de facto authorized to marry people in MI.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

jon, my best friend bill is presiding over the ceremony of his wife's best friend and her fiancee in michigan this weekend. i'm watching their dogs while they're away so i'll ask them when i see them.

to the best of my knowledge bill is not a member of the clergy, a judge, or sea captain.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

Wingman, nice. The one here is apparently called the Bender Defenders.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure Larry Bell is de facto authorized to marry people in MI.

We're playing at Bell's on Oct. 12. I am STOKED.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Kevin, that would be great. Sounds exactly like what we are planning to do.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, I am jealous. The band used to play there back in the day (and is playing on the jukebox during the Bell's part of that beer documentary), but I never have.
