akm, Thursday, 29 July 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

akm, Thursday, 29 July 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

m.white. Citizen's Band is a block from my place. my wife worked briefly at Pinkie's Bakery (connected next door), but it didn't work out due to schedule conflicts. i'm stoked that area is getting more stuff. another 'micro-hood' - folsoma

jaxon, Thursday, 29 July 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

we went to that underground market last week, and then tried to have drinks at citizen's band, but it was fuckin BONKERS inside

69, Thursday, 29 July 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

Boris invited us to the opening but I had other plans and I've heard it's small and swamped.

Steve, where is Benu?

Where Two used to be, kinda near Moscone. Same block as culinary juggernauts Chevy's and Thirsty Bear.

Citizen's band was good. Pinkie's bread was amazing - they made a levain that tasted kind of like Poulain.

As long as all this talk is going on -- will be back Labor Day weekend for the On Land Festival. Evenings are out but otherwise open for whatever during the afternoons.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 30 July 2010 22:47 (fifteen years ago)

you cannot be OG and live in the Embarcadero or the Marina. i guess what i'm saying is NO EXCELSIOR, NO CREDIBILITY.

the nyu glory hole crew (the table is the table), Friday, 30 July 2010 22:47 (fifteen years ago)

people live in the Embarcadero? whuuuh?

sarahel, Friday, 30 July 2010 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

from an OG:

EMB used to be hella sketch before the 89 earthquake and the Freeway ran down off the bridge onto Broadway. Farmer's Market area was more like black tar and freebaser's delight.
Marina used to be more family-oriented and Italian before the quake. Maybe some southern eye-talian goombahs were throwing signs.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Friday, 30 July 2010 22:53 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, the Marina was different prior to the quake. You can kind of see glimpses of it on Chestnut.

Thank God the Embarcadero freeway was condemened.

Un peu d'Eire, ça fait toujours Dublin (Michael White), Friday, 30 July 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

you are missing my point. NO EXCELSIOR NO CREDIBILITY.

the nyu glory hole crew (the table is the table), Saturday, 31 July 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

seriously, that 'hood is like the most under-repped hood in the city, and it is a shame, because there's some great stuff down there. i loved living there, despite hellish commute.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

It's been a grim summer, Mandee. Definitely bring a coat.

question, when you mean SF do you mean the city of San Francisco or do you mean the bay area?

hey all, I am looking for a good recommendation for a special dinner in 2 weeks. she wanted to go to Gary Danko, but I don't think they have any seats available on such short notice, so looking for a backup plan.

i mean the city of san francisco!

homosexual II, Thursday, 5 August 2010 02:52 (fifteen years ago)

The Museum of Performance & Design’s (MPD) critically acclaimed exhibition Somethin’s Happening Here: Bay Area Rock ‘n’ Roll 1963-73 marks the end of its run with a very special program on August 25 that focuses on the sounds of the era it celebrates. In a treat for casual fans and aficionados alike, the Museum hosts an evening of rare audio and video recorded during the 1960s in San Francisco. Big Brother & The Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Sly & The Family Stone, the Sons Of Champlin and the Beau Brummels are among the many local acts to be featured in an unprecedented evening of sound and vision.

Is this exhibit worth seeing?

curmudgeon, Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:19 (fifteen years ago)

thx Steve. increasingly curious about Benu...

Anyone want to suggest a route for a pub/bar crawl?

fuck ya law! (Spinspin Sugah), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

xp - depends on the night of the week - there are places i'd recommend for a weeknight crawl that i'd advise steering clear of on weekends because of covers and douche factors.

sarahel, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

agreed. weeknight in the mission can actually be great...

start at the Phonebooth, then go up to the Lone Palm, then cross back down to Shotwell's, then go to the Uptown, then end the night at Zeitgeist.

pounding beats of worship (the table is the table), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:43 (fifteen years ago)

Doc's Clock is pretty great, too (also in the mission) - will definitely rep for the Uptown

sarahel, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

^^ 1.5 blocks from apartment :D

tbh id say just go to lone palm, have a nice drink, then go to phonebooth, get ripped, go buy a loosie cig from shotwell's, and go home and watch next food network star instead of zeitgeist. never been to the uptown?

69, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

See, I think you should go to Zeitgeist first before it gets crowded. I love it when it's empty back there and you can choose from that veritable panoply of port-o-potties.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

i'm going to the Eagle tonight - should I make a point of avoiding the bathrooms?

sarahel, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

Doc's Clock
Mission Bar
Bender's
Uptown

Un peu d'Eire, ça fait toujours Dublin (Michael White), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

Is Mission Bar the one that just has a sign that says "Bar"?

theyre ok, a little like zeitgeist's port-a-potties, but with light? there's also inside BRs which are fine.
