Before the jacuzzi.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'd like to take that back.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'm kind of a Stevens nut (favorite American poet, etc), so it's really a trivial piece of trivia.

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:26 (fifteen years ago)

Alison can suck it.

allison: wns
pamela: wns
jaymc: ws, ergo, WINNER IS U

I had so much fun watching, John! I am likely in Chicago at the end of August, and would like to buy you all the cuts of meats, sir!

quincie, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, if the question had been flipped, I wouldn't have know Stevens. But as it was, with the answer being Hemingway, "Key West" "1936" and the presence of violence was nothing short of a gimme.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

Now that I know what this Clue Crew thing is I R revolted.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

even though I'll probably never see this episode <3 jaymc.

estela, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

Aw!

Quincie, the hilarious thing about both my "Hometown Howdy" and my two correct responses in the What's Your Beef category is that I haven't eaten meat since 1998.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha totally forgot you are veg! Pls revise to "I would like to buy you all the cuts of tofus, sir!"

quincie, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:38 (fifteen years ago)

"Waiter! Extra firm, chop chop."

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

Final Jeopardy was so ridiculously easy. Even before the question was revealed I was like "oh it'll probably be Hemingway". I mean he's kinda the go to guy for literary dust ups.

Sorry you didn't win jaymc. It was a good game though!

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 03:24 (fifteen years ago)

cute chick was playing well; i thought you had a good game jaymc. At no point did I scream the answer at the screen, which is a definite sign of a good game.
Just getting on the goddamn show is accomplishment enough and you didn't do what I would've done, which is buzz in and say utterly foolish shit.

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 06:23 (fifteen years ago)

jaymc was cooler than i've ever seen him
real question: how did you maintain that frosty demeanor? did you practice not getting too excited?

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 12:07 (fifteen years ago)

did you slip allison the ilx business card as you left

cozen, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 12:31 (fifteen years ago)

FINE. I admit it. I didn't know the Final Jeopardy question.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 12:58 (fifteen years ago)

I was like Gideon. Gideon! Gideon!!!!!

mizzell, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

Congrats, nice job. You didn't get kicked off before Final Jeopardy which would be my biggest fear and disgrace.

How was the whole taping experience? How long were you in the studio? Did they edit anything out? What happens if someone was to curse by accident, do they start over? Does the winner change clothes and play another game right away, or had she played one right before yours? How different did it feel from the in-person audition?

Maybe someday I'll actually get on...

joygoat, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)

i watched this w/ my wife and was getting all heated like "i've watched this guy display incredible feats of memory and general knowledge for years! if he can't win this show THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! there's too much emphasis on buzzer timing, clearly!"

max fachine (some dude), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

"the ilx business card" - is this some kind of new euphemism

haha i felt something like this. i swear i saw john hitting the buzzer fruitlessly a lot. at one point my viewing companion had to be like, "it's just a game." to which i was like, "you don't know John!"

horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

so if they do several tapings a day, does the previous winner just stay on the set and play on? does s/he change clothes in between games to give the illusion that a day has passed in between the games? magnets, how do they work?

You’re going off of her word that the farmer’s wife is the farmer’s wife? (dyao), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

it's not just a game! large sums of money are involved!

iatee, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

jaymc, congrats on a great showing. i really admire you for being so poised throughout the whole thing! i had fun watching. wish more ilx ppl would turn up on tv (in a good way; not in the eleven o'clock news way)

argh, that younger woman seemed so smug and annoying!

dell (del), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks again, all.

How was the whole taping experience? How long were you in the studio? Did they edit anything out? What happens if someone was to curse by accident, do they start over? Does the winner change clothes and play another game right away, or had she played one right before yours? How different did it feel from the in-person audition?

I believe we got to the studio at 8 AM. Spent the first two hours in the green room, mostly filling out forms and going over rules and regulations. Also got makeup done. Then there was about 45 minutes of on-stage practice for all 13 contestants that appeared that day. (There were six episodes taped that day, so that meant returning champion Alison plus two new contestants for each episodes.)

Of the three episodes I was there to see (including my own), they didn't edit anything out on the contestant end. Nobody swore. However, Alex flubbed a couple of card readings and mispronounced the surname of actor Josh Duhamel, so at the end of the episode they had him go back and rerecord those.

The champion indeed returns to the green room and changes clothes for the next episode right away. (There's, I dunno, 15 minutes between each episode.) Our taping day was for last Friday's episode plus all of this week's episodes, so Alison was already a returning champion when we started and then she won another game before facing me. We were told to bring three outfits total -- I guess if you win more than three episodes in a row, they figure no one will notice that you're wearing the same outfit as on your first episode.

Definitely felt different from the in-person audition. The fact that you're in an actual TV studio can be kind of overwhelming. But the contestant coordinators were pretty great and made everyone feel at ease.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

Almost forgot about Sarah's prof! She's doing pretty well so far.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

"I am just as amazed as anyone that I got answers in the Bible category. I reckon Sunday school paid off."

Haha, I knew all of these! You say Alison was Mormon, though? I am kind of surprised she didn't know them.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

omg, she's leading against Alison going to Final Jeopardy!

― jaymc, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 11:14 AM (8 minutes ago)

I know, that weird faux-Irish accent! Sarah swears she's American. Maybe there's a support group for Americans who spontaneously develop foreign accents, and she'll meet Ian R-M.

My totem animal is a hamburger. (WmC), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

You say Alison was Mormon, though?

Yeah, her anecdote in today's episode is that she's one of Brigham Young's progeny.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:26 (fifteen years ago)

I know, that weird faux-Irish accent

we have these over here to, usually on the national broadcaster

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:26 (fifteen years ago)

She knocked out Alison and really went for it on FJ, nearly doubling up to $27,001.

Go Sarah's prof! (At least she didn't take down jaymc, then there would have been a FITE [copyright ILX 2002])

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

thought it was funny when alex asked pamela how her newspaper was doing, and she said they were struggling a little bit, and then there was the unasked question hanging in the air: but they still employ someone to just write headlines?

mizzell, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, her anecdote in today's episode is that she's one of Brigham Young's progeny.

Oh man, ppl who brag on being related to prophets are the worst! (imo) But OTOH maybe she's just running out of banter anecdotes & has not done many things in life.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

Is this taped at the culver studios or sony?

Awww, John, you're a gentleman and scholar.

xp Sony.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

Right next door to Wheel of Fortune, in fact. Someone asked if he and Sajak ever hung out, but I guess they tape on different days of the week.
