or "Which poet did Hemingway punch out in Key West in 1936?"

balls and adieu (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 26 July 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

Nah, Alfred, I stayed and watched tomorrow's episode (which features WmC's daughter's English professor!) and then there was a lunch break, so I left the studio and ate maybe the best Thai food I've ever had at Jitlada. And then I went back to my brother's apartment and took a nap.

jaymc, Monday, 26 July 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

I checked Twitter and was there seriously a Doctor Who question?

the phantom flâneur flinger (suzy), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

Trebek: "Think American literature, and think Key West, and the answer should be obvious." Or, um, think "brawl."

clemenza, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

yes! it was about how he's died seven times iirc

xp to suzy

horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

Yes there was! And a Buffy question! xxp

ô_o (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

John getting the Buffy answer was <3; i fist-pumped iirc

horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

You risked it all in final jeopardy ! A true champion @ heart!!!

Dude. I hope you don't need the math there explained.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

I thought she was kinda CUET actually, but totally agreed on the weird guessing face.

^^

Good game jaymc!

So what did you and Alison and Alex and the crazy nervous lady shoot the breeze about after the end of the game?

"goof proof cooking, I love it!" (Z S), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

did u think abt jumpin to the $1600 clue?

Honestly, I was too nervous to think that strategically, especially since they encourage you to keep the game moving.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

more importantly: did you seduce Pam?

many many xposts

now breathing manually (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

I was wondering if they would have accepted "Who is the Doctor" as the (technically more correct) answer to regenerations character question.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:03 (fifteen years ago)

OH - I MEANT ALISON!

jitlada roxx did u meet the lady who runs it / cooks?

kim cardassian (s1ocki), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

So what did you and Alison and Alex and the crazy nervous lady shoot the breeze about after the end of the game?

I don't really remember? It was a little awkward! I think I tried to make a joke about Alison being a tough competitor.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

I mixed up Allison and Pamela too, they are easy names to mix up.

ô_o (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

Allison is obv. the one who looks like Julia Stiles and not Pamela.

ô_o (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

I was enraged to see they still have the Clue Crew, though it looks like they aren't making a big deal of calling them the Clue Crew.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

jitlada roxx did u meet the lady who runs it / cooks?

Ha, yeah. She talked to us for like 15-20 minutes after our meal. Quite a character.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

or "Which poet did Hemingway punch out in Key West in 1936?"

Wouldn't have gotten the answer to that. Probably would've guessed, I dunno, Ezra Pound.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

I know, right? I hadn't watched Jeopardy in a while and had hoped it had gone away. xxp

ô_o (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

John getting the Buffy answer was <3; i fist-pumped iirc

I've never even seen Buffy! But, y'know, context helped.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

POUND, getit?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

personally still haven't forgiven hemingway. stevens writes rings around that hard-man faker.

bnw, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still thinking of a better Final Jeopardy question.

"His 'Idea of Order at Key West' was disrupted when Ernest Hemingway punched him out in a bar dispute there in 1936."

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, yeah. She talked to us for like 15-20 minutes after our meal. Quite a character.

kim cardassian (s1ocki), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

I got the Dr Who answer w/out ever seeing it, but wd've preferred a "Who is Who" answer.

Never heard of this Stevens-Ernie fight before.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

I was enraged to see they still have the Clue Crew, though it looks like they aren't making a big deal of calling them the Clue Crew.

Oh God, they had Jimmy from the Clue Crew warm up the audience, since announcer Johnny Gilbert had laryngitis or something, and he was a total cheeseball. Like he would ask audience members where they were from and then respond, "Wow, Seattle, Washington. What a great city. And a great place to be from. I've been to Seattle a few times now, and I've always had a great time. Seattle. That's really, really cool."

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

"The 'Emperor of Ice Cream" became the emperor of ice on his jaw..."

No that's terrible.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

haha us too. did she talk about twitter

I don't remember. I think she talked about Yelp. And Jonathan Gold. And how Anne Hathaway had just been in the day before. And then a long rambling bit about her spiritual beliefs.

me neither! wouldn't have guessed it of Stevens.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:14 (fifteen years ago)

Oh my god, the Clue Crew are even lamer than I thought! I previously would not have thought the could be that lame. (Even if it's just Jimmy, this anecdote has tarnished the other two Clue Crew dudes.)

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:14 (fifteen years ago)

When I last watched Jeopardy there wasn't any Clue Crew; there were audio Daily Doubles.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:16 (fifteen years ago)

Well I found time to watch this at a hotel. Good playing. Maybe next year you can get on TV for being a finalist in the crossword puzzle championship. I saw it on TV once and there was a crazy fast guy who won and I wouldn't be surprised if he wins all the time :/

I would definitely watch the crossword puzzle championship again. And the scrabble championship for that matter

ok, done now.

bnw, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:17 (fifteen years ago)

Alison can suck it.

tehresa, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:20 (fifteen years ago)

Before the jacuzzi.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'd like to take that back.

kenan, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'm kind of a Stevens nut (favorite American poet, etc), so it's really a trivial piece of trivia.

allison: wns
pamela: wns
jaymc: ws, ergo, WINNER IS U

I had so much fun watching, John! I am likely in Chicago at the end of August, and would like to buy you all the cuts of meats, sir!

quincie, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, if the question had been flipped, I wouldn't have know Stevens. But as it was, with the answer being Hemingway, "Key West" "1936" and the presence of violence was nothing short of a gimme.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

Now that I know what this Clue Crew thing is I R revolted.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

even though I'll probably never see this episode <3 jaymc.

estela, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

Aw!

Quincie, the hilarious thing about both my "Hometown Howdy" and my two correct responses in the What's Your Beef category is that I haven't eaten meat since 1998.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

hahaha totally forgot you are veg! Pls revise to "I would like to buy you all the cuts of tofus, sir!"
