Of course, 20 degree difference between 30 miles is usually going to equal TORNADO.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not having alcohol until autumn. Hell, we even put the brita in the fridge...it's that hot!

And grapes, grapes in the fridge.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:28 (sixteen years ago) link

95 yesterday...a couple of degrees cooler predicted today, and then a storm front and upper 80s tomorrow and Wednesday. I won't complain yet because I know it's going to get a lot worse. I dread my next utility bill.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:28 (sixteen years ago) link

girlfriend took me to bed bath and beyond to buy me a/c and all the stuff she needs to stay at my house all summer.

Woke up in 72 degree apt with french pressed coffee ^_^

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:31 (sixteen years ago) link

sunny successor, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link

burt_stanton, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

last i heard she wasn't his girlfriend. now we see what draws the line. a/c = commitment! lol

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago) link

i would probably do any number of sordid things for a/c

mookieproof, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago) link

if she pays the electric bill she's a keeper

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

ACs only cost like $100 people man up

bell_labs, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

lol you live in a small apartment

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm gonna buy one of those portable ones so I don't have to permanently block a window and can move between two rooms. Prices have come down on those.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

my apt is about twice the size of yours

bell_labs, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I had to sleep pretty much all day yesterday in Oxford because it got up above 20 °C. I go to NYC and Providence for work from August 1-14. I'm going to die, aren't I?

caek, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

don't talk to me wastegash

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 16:59 (sixteen years ago) link

NY is usually worse in the early summer.

But there are any number of reasons that you may die.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:01 (sixteen years ago) link

What's this I hear about manhole fires

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:01 (sixteen years ago) link

xp, yes, i might get caught in the crossfire of a JW beef

caek, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:02 (sixteen years ago) link

lol

max, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:03 (sixteen years ago) link

it all depends.. i remember july last summer being pretty awful, too.

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:09 (sixteen years ago) link

so seriously -- the window/wall unit question... can anyone help? will i set my house on fire or something if i get the window unit and put it in the wall space? there are bars on my windows so i can't just put one in the window.

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:09 (sixteen years ago) link

aren't there laws? Your landlord should be able to replace the bars with the kind that fit an AC.

I'm sure there's some good reason why people don't just put AC units in the middle of apartments. They need to vent.

Korean Fan Death?

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:15 (sixteen years ago) link

well we have one of those holes under the window specifically for an air conditioner so i doubt she'd be willing to alter the bars... this is the kind of landlady who recently got taken to a courttv show over a security deposit!

i am just thinking, there's no way that everyone with one of those holes under their windows is spending $$$$$$ on their a/c.

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:20 (sixteen years ago) link

was at a friends house last nite who had a window unit in the wall slot seemed fine

jhøshea, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:20 (sixteen years ago) link

OH when you said wallspace I thought you meant like an internal wall. I thought those Fedders holes under windows were FOR window units?

dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

who agrees to go on court tv?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

doesn't those wall holes have like things to mate the ac?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

the guy at p.c. richards said i couldn't put a window unit in the wall slot bc the air intake is different... but the only wall units they had there were like $500. so i wasn't sure if you really can't do it or if he was trying to upsell.

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

You could spend some extra $$ and buy a portable a/c. I was just looking online and 299 seemed the cheapest price.

brownie, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

don't buy a portable ac

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, i thought of that, but i don't want to spend that much.

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

all signs are pointing towards you spending that extra 200.

sexyDancer, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

i just went out back and surveyed my neighbors' units... i think several of them have the wall units...

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:37 (sixteen years ago) link

i just went out back and surveyed my neighbors' units

XD

elmo argonaut, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:37 (sixteen years ago) link

haha

tehresa, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:38 (sixteen years ago) link

i have a/c at home but i haven't turned it on yet. i rarely use the heat either.

august can be brutal in nyc, though perhaps not as bad as late july, but it depends on the year, really. this summer's supposed to be pretty bad, due to la nina, but the badness may moderate by august.

gabbneb, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

My AC broke a couple days ago and it's going to take a few days to get it fixed. I'm :( and I'm sure my pets are :(((. It's about 100 out here.

miryam, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm impressed by gabbneb not turning on the A/C yet – where were you all w/e?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:57 (sixteen years ago) link

in my apt, at the gym, shopping and in madison sq pk eating much bbq. i wear light colors, drink lots of water, and try to stay in the shade, including keeping the blinds closed when the sun's facing the windows. shoulda worn some sunscreen tho.
