I mean, FFS they've made the Enterprise look like a Schwinn bicycle.

I just re-watched Wrath of Khan the other day and they make a big deal about how Kirk is a collector of antiques. In a scene in his apartment I spotted that he and I have the exact same chrome & glass diamond-shaped book shelf.

I'm kinda assuming he has mine in the future, so I have to take really good care of it now.

Nate Carson, Saturday, 15 November 2008 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

If you have a Commodore PET, maybe you could spray it silver and sell that to him as well...

snoball, Saturday, 15 November 2008 17:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes, a whole room full of computers that just run vector animation patterns would be pretty cool too.

Nate Carson, Saturday, 15 November 2008 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link

I love that caption at the beginning of Kahn: "IN THE 23RD CENTURY", then the next thing we see is a spinning wireframe model of the Enterprise on Spock's screen.

Seeing the trailer tonight before Quantum of Solace, I gotta say, visually at least the trailer looked pretty impressive on the big screen. Not sure if I'm really into the idea of a "sexy, slick" Trek though. I want dorky cardboard sets.

This looks sort-of awful. I hope I'm wrong.

From that blog post:

4. In a lengthy action sequence, Kirk, Sulu (John Cho) and a third, red-shirted Starfleet recruit (don’t get too attached to him) parachute from the upper atmosphere of the planet Vulcan onto a giant drill that is burrowing a hole to the center of the planet.

WELSHY!!!

not so sure about sylar-spock now, his voice is sooooo sylar, and soooo not nimoy.

akm, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

My wife got PISSED that they are calling the movie "Star Trek" with no subtitle. I told her to think of it as "Star Trek 90210" and she guffawed through most of the rest of the trailer.

breakdown of the trailer

http://io9.com/5091679/trailer-reveals-whos-hooking-up-with-kirk-and-why-scottys-all-wet

And, now Kirk gets his mandatory sexing. And who’s the lucky lady?

YoJimbo at TrekMovie has it:

ORION SLAVE GIRL….

If you go through the 1080p trailer frame-by-frame you see that the girl Kirk is in bed with has GREEN SKIN! Ahahahaha.

He’s right. If you pause on the HD trailer, you can see she’s sporting skimpy underwear and green skin.

My friend Tom P. on the blog post I linked a few posts back:

OK, so I have read the first paragraph and already Kirk had run into Uhura and Christopher Pike in a bar in Iowa? Damn it, apparently he decided to use the George Lucas view of the universe, I don't doubt that sooner or later C-3PO will make an appearance, perhaps Scotty will fix him or something. Good god, my guess is that Zefrem Cochrane works hi way into this movie somewhere, maybe he is really Kirk's uncle or some such nonsense. Perhaps he invented the Pan Galactic Gargleblaster at another bar in Iowa....So Scotty invented the transporter? Oh no. Jango Fett anyone? I looking for Jango Fett.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 17:51 (fifteen years ago) link

he would prefer to populate the story with a bunch of new, random characters? wtf

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

This doesn't look all that good--although I was happy to hear the sounds of OS Trek. The upside is that the flick looks crammed with wall-to-wall craziness, and in such an environment there's a better chance of a Gorn appearance.

(xpost) Roll d20 to determine your character's intelligence...

I guess I am the only person who would rather watch this than that Watchmen piece of shit

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I am fully exploring the option of not watching either.

"Roll d20 to determine your character's intelligence..."

Don't be a fake nerd. Intelligence rolls require 3 die 6 so you get a bell curve on your results... sheesh.

Nate Carson, Friday, 21 November 2008 01:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Am I the only person to whom "Star Trek 90210" sounds like the only appealing thing in this project?

Mordy, Friday, 21 November 2008 02:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Also; 4d6 drop lowest one ftw.
