By the way, the worst episode of SNL of all time is the one Matthew McConoughey hosted two or three years back. Easily the lowest low in over 30 years.

The Donald Trump episode from last year comes really close, though.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:25 (eighteen years ago) link

the only good part of this episode was the weekend update girl on girl re-encctment, and not cause of the lesbian sex, but the political commentary.

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:27 (eighteen years ago) link

You know, I know there were moderately funny bits throughout, but I can't remember them. The show ended a half hour ago!

But after several consecutive awful episodes, just getting back up to mediocrity was impressive enough for me.

I watch SNL like some people follow a sports team - sometimes you have to watch your team have a crappy season. To me, the frustrating thing about SNL in the past two or three years is that the cast is full of pretty good performers - it's the writing that's awful.

now I'm re-reading the first 300 pages of a terrible "funny" sci-fi novel I wrote in high school and wondering if I should burn it or fix it and try to publish it under another name. it's not any worse than lots of shit. also, I'm going to take bath, maybe. I was going to go see the Clientele. That would have been more interesting!

watched CSI, Numbers, Stuart Gordon installment of Showtime's "Matsers Of Horror" series. Husband cooked pulled pork on the bbq, except that it took much longer to cook than expected, ie still waiting at uhm let's see, midnight. luckily we had other food. my advice: the less involvement nature has in your method of cooking, the more likely it will cook within the planned timeframe. bbq tastes great, but the waiting sucks ASS!

why do they call it pulled pork?

I am drinking some smuttynose pumpkin ale, which i think someone recommended on the nov. fucking 10 list and they had at fresh direct this week. mmm good. I just finished Youth of the Beast, can't decide whether to start another movie or go to bed.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 13 November 2005 08:28 (eighteen years ago) link

movie!

i've seen the smuttynose pumpkin ale at the store. i'm a total impulse buyer when it comes to pumpkin anything, so i'm surprised i haven't snapped it up yet. but i've tried smuttynose before and found what i had a bit too hoppy.

I am watching the Clientele on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Earlier I went out for dinner at Prune because my uncle and cousins are in town. I had steak! and bitter greens! and wine! Alasdair has magic fingers. I went to see the Memling exhibition at the Frick. Eggshell skin, furs, long tapered fingers.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 13 November 2005 19:49 (eighteen years ago) link

why do they call it pulled pork?

because after it's cooked, instead of slicing it, you literally pull it
off the bone with a fork.

And Jody's right: it's damn good.

So you are you unfamiliar with the last 12 years of SNL? I did tape it to watch Dave Grohl toss his hair.

I spent two hours of Saturday night sat on a cold platform at the wonderfully named Pokesdown station in Bournemouth, waiting for a train that eventually turned up and dropped me, not at Waterloo, but in the middle of Hampshire due to a broken rail.

Then I waited another two hours for a replacement bus, which took an hour to get me to Southampton, then there was a 30 minute wait for a train back to London, which took 90 minutes. I eventually got home around 10pm, discovered there was no beer in the fridge and that the offie was closed, so I took the dog for a walk, stopped off at a local chavpub for a pint and then went to bed.

I was going to hang out with my roommate tonight, but now I'm extremely pissed off at him after finding out the past month he's secretly been keeping pet ferrets in his room fully aware that I'm allergic to animals with fur. He thought that it was worth keeping them secret and seeing if my allergies started to get real bad.

So now I'm waiting for someone to get off work so I can go do something else tonight. I hope it does end up happening. Otherwise I may just sit in my room and be pissed off all night. And I'm getting tired of refreshing ILX. (No offense, ILX)

Mickey (modestmickey), Sunday, 4 December 2005 02:21 (eighteen years ago) link

That's not offensive. In fact, it's refreshing!

I got out for a couple of hours to see Good Night and Good Luck, while the nieces were being put to bed. But now SVU reruns -- can hardly tell the difference from any other night of the week.

Wish I were in England where they serve rice AND chips with curry.

On boring Saturday nights when I want to go out but can't find anything to do, I don't let myself read a book. Even if it's what I kind of want to do. It's almost like admitting defeat to admit "This is my life: Saturday night and I am reading Dostoyevsky." Not that being on the computer is any better, or anything. At least I'm not just looking at porn on the Internet or something. Actually, I haven't done that yet. I'm going to go do that now.
